Chocolate cravings - HELP!!!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi ALL

I absolutely LOVE chocolate and must have a piece every day :) Now I know its bad so I eat dark chodolate which supposedly is better for you.  But I read in a magazine that since I crave chocolate, I'm not getting enough protein.  Does anyone know if this is true? If so, how much protein am I supposed to have?

Thanks

that's all a bunch of crap. research is conducted nonstop that contradicts what another research study previously "proved." life isn't as tricky as magazines et. al. would have us believe. as long as you're not allergic, one piece of chocolate a day isn't going to hurt you. eat your chocolate, and enjoy it! Smile
I don't know if that's true, but when I have chocolate cravings, I eat Jell-O brand sugar-free chocolate pudding instead of chocolate bars. It only has 60 calories and 1.5 g of fat per serving!
Having a little bit of dark chocolate every day may be good for you, according to some research. As long as you can stop yourself at a small piece--about the size of one little square off a Hershey's bar--then enjoy yourself!
Hershey Kisses are great too...you can have 2 of them for a very small amount of calories.   Portion control is what it is all about.
Hershey kisses also do it for me.  They are so rich, it takes the craving away.

Tootsie Rolls!!

Although I love them so much that sometimes I can't stop...Embarassed

I eat Dove Dark Chocolate Squares...one or two a day does it for me! They are SOOOO good. If I don't have chocolate everyday, I binge.

I have read that having chocolate cravings is not related to protein...but to iron. If you are iron deficient you will crave chocolate - try taking a spoonful of molasses - so sweet and delicious and bitter at the same time and great source of iron (lots of sugar though).

OR how about a Viactiv chocolate chewable multivitamin? Get your vitamins in the form of a delicious 20 cal chewy candy...I love the caramel ones that are for calcium.

OR there is a brand called CocoaVia that has 90 calorie snack bars that are pure dark chocolate with a little crunch (soy crispies). They are all natural and have the right amount of sugar and are so good. Also - help with portion control because they are prepackaged. I have one a few times a week as my chocolate fix. You can get them even at like CVS.

Hope this helps!

Swiss miss diet hot chocolate is only 26 calories and has protein. I also find it pretty filling!
Try Chocolate Frozen Yogourt..it works for me!

wow, thanks everyone.  i do try to have a little peace but if i skip a few days then i just eat much more at one time ) i guess one little piece wont kill me

I was a chocolate addict. The only way I stopped my cravings were to cut it out completely. I literally don't barely crave it at all anymore, maybe once every week or so, I can't believe it really, so yeah, cut it out and the cravings will actually stop. Then when you have it once in a while it's AMAZING. x

chocolate cravings can be an indicator of a magnesium deficiency.  I take three magnesium a day in addition to my daily vitamin and I don't have any chocolate cravings as long as I am diligent.  When i stop, you can guarantee about four days later I will be climbing the walls for chocolate.  Give it a try, what do you have to lose? studies were done in europe with white chocolate vs dark choc.

dark choc lowered cholesterol but not much because everyone had 1 bar/day for about a year.

then they repeated the experiment but with ~9g of dark choc vs a bar of dark choc.

9g was proven to help lower cholesterol by about 4pts.

So.. have a dark hershey kiss a day, i do that actually.

sorry for butchering the experiment.

I love a piece of chocolate after lunch and dinner (no more of that for now though!).  I would recommend eating REAL chocolate, since your body is craving real chocolate, not something that just tastes like it.  If you don't eat real chocolate, you can find yourself eating excessive amounts of low-quality chocolate to just get your fix.

I would recommend Trader Joe's dark chocolate truffles.  They are so heavenly and just one is definitely rich enough to feed your craving.  I don't think I could possibly eat more than 3 or 4 without getting sick from the richness, so I find them very hard to over-indulge on.

If you have nothing against splenda, there is a chocolate flavored merange (?sp) that is great, only 3 calories for a bite that reminds me of a fudgecicle

i love my chocolate too!!!  i have some on most days.  not yesterday though!!!  yesterday i had a 6" sub from subway, pizza, wings, breadsticks, string cheese AND ice cream cake, etc.  :(

i know...  i know...  it was a birthday party though  :D

Because nobody actually answered this for you, the RDA of protein is a minimum of 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight.

I love chocolate too. I allow myself one of those 100 cal Cadbury Thins Chocolate bars every week. Everything in moderation, right?? Laughing
