For the past week and a bit, i've been REALLY craving chocolate. I cant explain it but I cant fight it either. I've tried all the tricks (like brushing my teeth, drinking tea or water, chewing gum etc) but eventually i just cave in and get the chocolate bar.
this has been going on EVERY day for the past week. and its ruining my diet plans because once i have one chocolate bar, i feel like i've already ruined my day and then i dont watch my intake for the rest of the day =(
i've come to the conclusion that my body just NEEDS chocolate so any ideas of low calorie chocolate snacks? my friend suggested lowcal hot chocolate and im going to try that but i need other options!
p.s. with the 100 calorie snack packs/bars, i always find it really hard to stop at just one....
I love chocolate too and eat it almost everyday. If you find it hard to stop after just one bite of chocolate you may want to lay off until you can control yourself around it. This is all about moderation and self control. I keep dove dark chocolate squares, 42 cals each, around the house, sip on nestle carb free fat free hot chocolate, 2 packs for 50 cals, or sometimes I will buy the deep chocolate vitamuffins. so awesome. Maybe try some unsweetened chocolate almond breeze. I add 2 packets of splenda to make it taste really chocolatey.
just be careful with those muffins. you might end up eating the whole pack ( 4 muffins) like me.
maybe swissmiss hot chocolate drink is safer and less cals. 25 cals per serving. also, jello 10 cals snacks is another alternative. it is not chocolate but is good for my sweet cravings.
I had a similar problem, I just stopped trying to fight it. I go for the lowest cal chocolate bars I can without feeling I've had nothing. I have Curly Wurlys because the toffee means they take a long time to eat. Sometimes I dip them in low cal hot choc with low cal squirty cream so I feel like I've really indulged.
Good luck!
Pick the darkest chocolate (highest cocoa content) you find you really like and enjoy. Buy a good-quality dark chocolate. Eat it slowly and savor it. I second the Dove dark squares at 42 cals each. These are small but thick so you can really "sink your teeth into them," which you (if you are anything like me) might find extra satisfying. Ghirardelli individually wrapped squares are also a good option. I really like the 60% dark. The 72% Intense Dark is great, also. I find 72% is about as high as I can go and still really enjoy it, which is the whole point. These are both 55 cals a square. It's a much larger square than the Dove but thin. Both are great tasting, should satisfy a chocolate craving, and won't break the calorie bank if you can limit yourself to just one. That's the key anyway, as you will hear and see so often on here, moderation. ;-) I'd recommend maybe eating one after a meal, such as dinner, rather than at a time when you are hungry and more likely to eat more than just one. Good luck!
If I crave chocolate, I don't go for the whole chocolate bar. You could try a block of dark chocolate, a few Hershey kisses, a small Tootsie Roll or a few chocolate chips. That way, your diet isn't totally ruined.
I'm not a huge hot chocolate fan but I was craving it recently. I couldn't find any light HC so I tried some at my office. It worked! If you want to cut down on the sugar, I'd suggest a cafe mocha... half hot chocolate, half coffee.
I don't crave chocolate often, but unsweetened cocoa powder is only 15 calories per tbsp, and makes a nice, healthy hot chocolate when added to a cup of milk. You could also try eating a banana and dipping it in the cocoa after each bite, so you get a chocolatey banana snack for only about 100 calories. Frozen berries are amazing when dipped, too!
you could try one of those carnation instant breakfast shakes, they're VERY filling and have alot of nutrients. or you could limit yourself to 1 oz of chocolate a day, i've heard that works.
all i'm saying from experience, DO NOT BUY NUTELLA. you can't stop at just one tbsp.
I personally do not do well with chocolate. I've tried giving into my cravings in moderation, but it eventually backfires. What I've been doing lately, is grabbing a mocha in the morning on my way to work. This has been working awesome.
I hope one day to be able to eat a piece of chocolate, savor it, and get on with my day. But until I reach that level of self control, the mocha has been sufficing just fine.
Hey I know what you mean only my craving is peanut butter. Have you tried sugar free jello or just 1 fun sized candy bar. Actually I think you need these calcium supplements that are in a purple container for 20 calories you get chocolate and vitaminS! Also if you keep giving in eventually your body will get tired of the chocolate so just give it time and make room for the calories by eating healthier food throught the day!
I would recommend Viactiv multivitamin chocolate squares.
They're only 20 calories per chew and tasty.
You know you won't eat more than one because ingesting more than one multivitamin per day is dangerous.

This stuff is awesome and should cure any craving. Walmart and Target have it for sure. Not sure about grocery stores.
I have to stay away from milk chocolate because I can't stop easily. Dark chocolate really is much easier for me to eat in moderation. I buy quality dark chocolate bars and eat one or two pieces a day which only adds 50-100 cals.
I also found Plum Sweets which are dark chocolate covered prune bits. They are really good, taste like chocolate covered raisins. I can have seven for around 60 cals. They have them at Walmart.
Hershey's makes a good sugar-free dark chocolate that sells in bags of individually-wrapped small rectangles. Each piece is something like 40 calories and is usually enough to satisfy my chocolate craving. Plus, it's easier to eat just a little when you have to keep unwrapping each piece.
thanks SOOO much everyone for the advice!
i went to the grocery store yesterday and got sugar-free jello and some individually wraoped dark chocolate bars so hopefully it works out =)
my thing is peanut butter... i can't even have it in the house anymore *sigh*
one thing i haven't tried but i'm sure would satisfy your craving is chocolate oatmeal. add cocoa powder and splenda or light hot chocolate mix to a bowl of oatmeal, mix and enjoy. it'll take you a long time to eat it, and you'll get your chocolate fix in the healthy form of a meal or snack for less than 200 cals.
Adora Chocolate Calcium is made with real chocolate and it tastes fantastic... it's a great way to enjoy a piece of chocolate and get your days calcium at the same time.
