Okay... I need help.

I am doing really well with my exercise routine, I know all about nutrition.  I am eating within my calories, I have even out the bingeing, but to obtain the results I am aiming for I need to learn to control this chocolate thing!!!

I need help!  SOS!!!  I am a chocoholic.  I know a little will not kill me, but I CANT JUST EAT A LITTLE,  and I can't keep it out of my house because my boyfriend is quiting smoking and chocolate helps him do this.  So I am left with the offending candy in the house and in my face.  Can anyone give me some advice on stratagies to make it easier to say no?

My first thought is putting it in a container "for my boyfriend only" so that way its his not mine and I wont eat it... but that only works when he doesn't have it out in front of me.   Any suggestions?

You can also try small servings of mint chocolate - like mint chocolate chips. Sometimes the mint helps stave off the chocolate munches.

Hey,

chocolate used to be my downfall - I'd have to cut out 400 calories a day because I'd eaten it in chocolate! My Sister challenged me to give it up for lent, and I still am  off it - I suggest that you just give it up COMPLETELY for one month - you'll find after 1 or 2 weeks that you don't even crave it - but as long as you keep eating a bit now and then, or a hot chocolate/ chocolate cereal, etc. it will have a hold on you - chocolate has a power on women that no other food has! If you can give it up for a month then you'll have broken the cycle and then you'll have the power to choose to eat just a little! Also when I did this before I lost about 5 pounds in the month and I wasn't even calorie counting!

Hope this helps, any questions let me know!

Good luck!

Kate.

I suggest switching to Organic dark chocolate.  If I buy a bar of organic dark chocolate, I can make it last almost a week. It's so good and rich, you only need a couple of squares of it at a time.

Jello sugar free pudding

100 calorie packs (esp. chocolate covered pretzels, and mint chocolate wafers) and  frozen yogurt!

The higher percentage on chocolate, the more it becomes bitter and too rich to eat in quantity.  I can eat one square of 85% comfortably, two is my limit, and the suggested serving size is 4 squares.  A 3 oz bar now has a long shelf life (week +); prior to this, chocolate would last only as long as it took for me to eat it.

You can still get the taste you want, yes it does have fat, but you're eating so little.  This is how I dealt with my chocolate cravings....it might work for you.

Thanks so much these are good ideas... I am resolving to give it up in its entirety for a month.    Starting today, good a day as any!   Thanks for all your suggestions!  Keep up all your hard work everyone!

Is that any good? I've been curious.

I think giving it up for a month is a great idea, then you can have just a little and it will satisfy.  I have a huge bar in my desk drawer...I have 2 squares almost every day...60 calories.  I have learned to bite off a tiny piece and savor it and not just chew and swollow.  I do that with M&M's too...we have a dispencer that gives you 22 of them.  (74 calories).  It takes me about an hour to eat them all, one by one until they melt away in my mouth.

I love these suggestions!  They really help!  For me, I talk myself out of it by thinking about all the repercussions - I think of the nasty chocolate film that it leaves on my tongue, the number of additional minutes on the treadmill I'll have to work out, and I ask myself if it's worth a couple minutes of the delicious taste over the hard work I've put in burning calories for the day.  If that doesn't work, then I make myself go for a 15-minute walk (if it's during the workday) BEFORE eating the chocolate.

Eliminating chocolate is not an option for me.  If I don’t have some at least every few days, I will find myself binging.  What has worked for me is buying large bars of organic dark chocolate, between 60-75% chocolate.  The higher the chocolate, the less calories per oz and the more decadent and satisfying it is.  My squares are 50 cal each, and I eat one or two each afternoon. I break each square into the smallest pieces I can, put one on my tongue, and let it sit there until it dissolves.  SAVOR it.  And keep on working.  When I notice it’s gone, I have another.  It typically takes 15-20 minutes for me to eat that 100 calories.  I used to down hundreds of calories of milk chocolate in that time, and I didn’t stop there!

At home, I have a package of miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips.  If I get an urge for chocolate at home, I’ll go and get a fraction of an ounce – like half a dozen chips.  I walk away from the pantry and eat each chip individually, let it dissolve on tongue, and savor it.  That’s it.

I never thought I’d be able to limit chocolate to “just a little” but when I go with the high quality chocolate, I can.

Well done - go for it!!!!

Is that any good? I've been curious.

I've never had it, but my friend loves it and I've heard multiple people raving about it.

That would be a huge challenge for me too.  Maybe you can have him keep it somewhere that is hard for you to get to?  A high shelf?  It would still be possible for you to get it, but it would take real effort.  Just make sure it isn't somewhere out where you could munch without effort.  And good luck!

swiss miss makes a diet hot chocolate that is 25 calories a packet. I'm drinking the stuff right now.

i also buy those hersheys 60 calorie special dark chocolate boxes. helps me keep the portions in control. I'll admit, i've grabbed 2 before.

vitalicious.com makes a great dark chocolate muffin. it used to fix my chocolate craving.

dove makes a yummy yummy sugar free dark chocolate. they're about 38 calories a square. just suck on them until they melt and you should enjoy every minute of it.

jello is a great suggestion. jello pudding is always yummy. they make a 60 calorie cup.

I hope I helped at least a little!

Speaking from the male chocoholic perspective, I cannot and will not give up chocolate. So I managed to find a way to satisfy my craving: GNC Pro Performance Soy Protien 95 (chocolate flavor). It may not be the highest quality chocolate, but 1 scoop mixed in water is 130 Calories and 25 Grams of Protein.

It's a good way to get something healthy and still satisfy the chocolate craving.

Ditto here on the chocolate thing. I thought I could never give up milk chocolate but like many others here, have switched to other alternatives like the dark chocolate. I buy Ghiradelli 60% cacao squares (55 calories per square.) Remember, cocoa is an antioxident so it's good for you (and, in my book, it's a vegetable because it comes from a "bean" - LOL) I also buy the no sugar added fudgsicles (40 calories for one) and the diet hot cocoa. I, too, use chocolate protein powder for my protein shakes which helps, also.

Now I just have to keep myself away from all that darn Easter candy I have hidden in the house which will be stuffed into those plastic eggs. So far so good!

Easter is coming! Those darn Recees peanut butter cup eggs. They're my weakness. Maybe I'll factor in 1 this Easter. But I think thats more a peanut butter thing than chocolate.

Someone made a comment on fudgesicles. That's a good choco fix. I should buy me some.

Ok, so I know you already got a lot of responses but this one's different!!!  Wink   You have to try these Sugar-Free (yes SUGAR-FREE!) chocolate bars by Sorbee.  I think they're really for diabetics, but whatever works right?  They are actually really really good!  The dark chocolate bar is only 180 calories for one serving (and the serving is quite large- half of a large bar.  I'm a self professed chocoholic & I usually only want half a serving!).  My girlfriend is not into sugar-free things or low-fat/fat free things and she actually loved them too!  They taste like regular chocolate bars so your boyfriend might like them too.  That way you wouldn't have to split up 'hers' & 'his' chocolate and it would be better for him anyway.  You can get them at Raley's supermarket (if you're in California!).  Here's a website for the stats:
