Hello!! I'm finding it much easier to make my own recipes when adding food to my food log. What I'm seeing is that my recipes are all high in cholesterol. Is anyone else seeing this? Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any good recipes that are low in cholesterol or if anyone knows how to reduce cholesterol in their recipes?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Laughing

I'd have to see the recipe to know what's driving the cholesterol up.

All animal products contain cholesterol - meats, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy...

Here is one of my recipes that has high cholesterol...Is it because of the eggs??

Makes 1 serving

Quick, easy omelette without the bacon!

  Ingredients

2 eggs 1 tbsp green peppers, chopped 1 tbsp onion, chopped 1 tbsp cheese, shredded

Directions

  1. Chop your onion and green pepper to desired size; (I prefer small chunks). Place on a heated skillet and cook, (depending on your taste).

  2. Add the eggs to a bowl and beat, adding salt and pepper to taste.

  3. Remove the peppers and onions from the skillet and pour the egg mix into the hot skillet. Cook the eggs until there is very little uncooked egg. Add the vegetables and cheese; fold over twice. Turn the skillet off and let the omelette cook an additional minute.

  4. Remove from skillet. Serve.

Yes.  Look up eggs in the search engine and read the nutritional label.  Egg yolks are very high in cholesterol.  You could try using an egg substitute product, or separate the eggs and use 3 egg whites, or use 1 whole egg and one egg white.

In recent years the research has shown that dietary cholesterol does not contribute a whole lot to blood cholesterol levels. I wouldn't stress to much about it.

To reduce the cholesterol in your recipes, replace the normal diary milk with a soy or rice milk... if your recipe calls for 1 egg, you can substitute it with 2 egg whites... eat more soy beans and use soy yogurt in stead of plain diary yogurt. Cut down the cheese in your diet.... That's what I did and it worked out well.
