I was looking at the foods I've eaten today and realized that nothing I ate had any Cholesterol in it...

What are some vegan foods that DO have Cholesterol?

Go to the McDougall website that is Dr. McDougall Wellness Center I think.  Anyway lots of good info.  Basically cholesterol comes from animals including us as we make our own.
I'm not sure there are any.

Here's a really cool site though that can answer the question and many other questions like it!

Under the "Tools" tab on that site there's a "Nutrient Search Tool".  This tool will let you search for which foods are highest/lowest in various nutrients.

I ran it for cholesterol, restricting the search to the "Vegetable and vegetable products" category and it came back with a page of "vegetable products" all of which looked like they were vegetable PLUS something (like butter or egg) that added the cholesterol.
only animal  products have cholesterol, if it's plant based (tofu, beans, fruit, veggies, nuts, etc) it shouldn't have cholesterol
Yeah, after researching Cholesterol... I realized there ain't none in a Vegan diet lol...

Good thing we can produce Cholesterol in our livers
Avocados have natural cholesterol.  I believe they are the only plant-based source.
I thought that too, hbingman, because they have saturated fat.  But I checked, and there is no cholesterol in avocados.  Coconut either.
May bad, lysistrata.  I re-researched it and you're right.  I had just been told that myth by so many other vegetarians.  Good to know.
Uh oh. :|

What are the consequences to not getting enough cholesterol?
it's not likely you won't get enough cholesterol.  the body makes its own and should supply all you would need - most of us eat too much of it.
Cholesterol is so important to the body's functioning that our bodies don't try to rely on getting enough in our food. That's why a healthy liver makes all that we need.
Ahh, thanks beth and flamel :D

Someone at school heard I was a vegetarian, and they whirled around and started barking about how unhealthy it was. Not getting enough cholesterol was one of their arguments. HA.
Here's an interesting article.  It tells exactly what cholesterol is, where it comes from and what it does in the body.
