If you had to choose a carb..

Quote  |  Reply

that would satisfy the crunch factor and be "healthy", what would your carb of choice be?  tortilla chips, pop corn, type of cracker?   i get that carb craving and would like to satisfy it to a certain extent but without throwing a healthy eating regime in the garbage!  thanks for any suggestions!

I would go with baked tortilla chips and hummus or salsa.  If you can make your own, use whole wheat tortillas so you can get some fiber in there.

I don't particularly care for crackers, but for a good crunch factor whole wheat pita chips are really good.

I'm addicted to eating the Special K protein plus dry as my fix for crunch!  It's low in carb and high in fiber and protein.  I measure out 100 calorie packs for work and eat them through out the day.  Other than that I snack on Smart Balance popcorn and I love the Harvest Chedder Sunchips as my devilish snack!

I switch between eating triscuits and dry GoLean cereal.  Serious crunchiness.

I love Crispy Minis, those little rice cakes covered with chip-flavourings like salt and vinegar. They are very low in fat and only 60 cals for 8, which is a decent serving size. Kinda high in sodium though.

An awesomely carbalicious snack that's a little healthier yet is homemade pita chips, just take a whole wheat pita and split it, cut into triangles, spray with evoo cooking spray, sprinkle with some s&p, herbs or cayenne pepper or other spice you like, and bake at 300F until they are light brown (watch them, they burn fast!). One pita makes a huge pile of chips, mmm I am totally going to buy pitas after work!

mmmmm soy crisps!! theyre like rice cakes, but made out of soy beans so theyre packed with good protein :D

ooh..those homemade pita chips sound great.. i will have to try them..i would make them super spicy!  thanks all for the recommendations.

I satisfy my carb cravings with honey wheat pretzels. I also love mini pitas and dip them into hummus!!

Another crunch for me is the 100 cal popcorn, although cheezits and goldfish get the best of me sometimes....

And animal crackers rock too!

popcorn, definitely. i air pop my own and add whatever seasonings i feel like.

mmmm... after reading this I made a pita crisp - whole wheat pita, 1 tsp olive oil and Mrs. Dash for seasoning - YUMMY!

Thanks for the recipe!!

If I didn't have to worry about my blood sugars, I'd pick popcorn or All Bran Garlic Herb crackers (18 for 120 calories).

Now, I eat radishes and celery.

I triple that! You've got to try soy crisps. The kind I buy you can have 20 of them for 120 calories, and the crisps are big, crunchy, and satisfying. Each one takes at least 2 bites to eat. They're a lot like chips to me. I eat it with soup instead of crackers.

popcorn definetely.

i buy an organic, natural-flavoured kind but i'm working on eventually air-popping my own.

RICE CRACKERS!!

I'm all about pretzels. I get a bag from the store and split it into small baggies of serving sizes, so I know when to stop.

My favorite is a wedge of laughing cow cheese on a serving (16 crackers) of wheat thins.  Just under 200 calories. And it has the crunch and rich texture I need.

I will second (or third) whole wheat pita chips.  I eat them with either hummus or baba ganoush.  De-lish.  Bob

How the heck do you make ww pita chips or where do you buy these?

 See post#4.

Oh I forgot to add, when you bake them spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet. They take about 20 minutes at 300, but WATCH them cuz when they start to burn they burn fast, because they are so thin. If your oven runs at all hot they will take less time.

After this post, I was totally wanting pita chips, so I bought a bag of pita after work and made up some chips using s&p and oregano and cayenne as seasoning. omg they were spicy and delicious with some lite cream cheese!
