Why do you choose to drink an alternative to cow milk?

Just curious....

And if anyone has any input as to which type of alternative is better or the best!

I really do not want a debate...just input....

I've never liked cow milk. It has nothing to do with health, I just hate the flavor, and always have. (Weird because I like other dairy stuff.)

Well, I am allergic to dairy, not just lactose intolerant.  I like Silk unsweetened soy milk and I am going to try Almond Breeze plain.  I think rice milk is okay on cereal but I don't like the aftertaste just for drinking.

My personal preference is almond milk.  I have yet to find a soymilk that I really think tastes good... the regular kind is too sweet and the unsweetened kind tastes like dishwater.  However, for cooking and use over cereal, oatmeal, etc. I still use soymilk since it is a little cheaper than almond milk. For drinking and smoothies I like unsweetened almond milk - all flavors.

As to why?  Mainly because milk is not healthy, and to a lesser extent, I object to the treatment of dairy cows.

Do you mean better in terms of taste, nutrition or something else?

If I buy a milk alternative it's usually vanilla soymilk because I love the flavor. Though the only things I really use it on are cereal and rarely in smoothies.

I switched to soy milk about 6 months ago because I think it may have been leading to my acne.  I can have cheese okay....but milk, yogurt , or ice cream an I break out.  I now drink almond milk and I love it.  It does cost more than soy but it has less calories.

Skywinkle...The reason I started this is because I am curious about what others think about alternative milk pertaining to taste and nutrition.  I have done some research so it is not like I have no clue on the subject.  I also think it is interesting to learn why people make certain choices be it health, taste, moral or political.  I am simply just curious.

i haven't started loving soy milk until recently. but my reasons for it are that i think it tastes better, and it has less calories than 1% and 2% milk (which is the other kind of milk my mom usually buys).

I use Natura Soy milk, and take calcium vitamins.
i like the taste of soy milk

my mom put me on to vanilla soy milk because she was trying to be healthier and at first i wouldn't touch it...but one day it was all she had and i wanted some cereal so i tried it and that has been the only milk i buy ever since

I started drinking unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze so I could conserve on calories when making my breakfast or a smoothie.  However, now I'm so used to it, I don't like the taste of regular milk anymore - it just kinda tastes gross.

Still like ice cream and other dairy products, I just don't care for milk anymore.

I haven't tried any other alternatives, so I can't really compare.

I stopped drinking milk for a while and became midly lactose intolerant. It just is not a pleasant experience for me after i drink dairy. So I just drink Almond Breeze. Low in cals and delicious.
i LOVE regular old cows milk to drink, but i use unsweetened vanilla almond breeze in my cereal because it's 40cals per cup and i like the taste a lot!

I stay away from milk, fruit juice and pop because of the sugar calories.  In their place I drink lots of water and coffee. And a little bit of really good red wine.....

I like the taste of Soymilk ALOT better. Plus it generally has less calories than regular milk. (And no growth hormones)

The only reason I drink/use soy milk is because I'm lactose intolerant and I want to eat cold cereal. I buy Trader Joe's vanilla soy milk and am lucky if I finish the box before it expires.

I bought lactase tablets but they don't always work and I still get terrible gas with them.  I only use lactase if I want ice cream.

I do drink kefir and eat yoghurt and cheese.  Nothing against dairy.

If you prefer something sweeter or richer, I would go for a vanilla flavored soy milk, or regular for the richness without so much of the sweetness. If it's something not too sweet and extra low calorie you'd prefer, I'd go for unsweetened almond breeze, which is my personal favorite. It comes in original and chocolate flavors.

i like almond milk. i don't agree with the mistreatment of dairy cows and don't believe that milk is healthy, so i don't drink it. i found after i stopped eating dairy that my skin has cleared up too.

I use lite soy milk. I think dairy farming is pretty terrible and I don't think milk is that healthy for you. Also its a step to becoming vegan for me :)

Because I once heard someone say "every time you drink a glass of milk, just think of all the PUS that is mixed in with it!", and now, I do. =/  I don't even know if it's true, but I just can't drink milk anymore.  Other dairy's fine, it's just milk.  I drink Silk Vanilla Light, 'cause it's what I'm used to (my friends' mother bought it all the time when I lived with them). :)

I choose to be vegan for socio-political and environmental reasons, so...i especially avoid cow-products.

I am also lactose-intolerant. (my family uses milk to cure constipation :p)

Also, soymilk TASTES better, and almond milk gives baked goods an extra flavoring (i also HATE cream. it's makes my stomach hurt and gives me nausea), and hemp milk is great with coffee.
