hey everyone ! i was thinking about getting a personal trainer at my local gym and doing this 6 week fat loss program (refer to link)

http://www.goodlifefitness.com/personal_train ing_sp_programs.aspx

but now here is the thing, i asked a question in regards to this particular program, and some people on here have done it and said it does work...but one lady said that she was mostly only using a treadmill and the cost is $599for the program. now if it does only consist mainly of treadmill work should i just buy myself a treadmill ?i can get a treadmill for around the same price !

what would you guys suggest ?

DEFINETLY TREADMILL if it were I.  Many of them have interval programs on them and you can find a lot of helpful routines and tips all over the place online.  I guess it comes down to, do you need someone to motivate you and tell you exactly what to do and how to do it?  If you do in order to get started with losing weight then I would go with the program.  If not, go with the treadmill... you'll be able to use it forever.
Oddly enough I am a personla trainer and would say get the treadmill. If that is what the program primarily entails, you don't need someone standing next to you in order to do it...or do you? If motivation is an issue at all, or you aren't sure you would stick to a program at home, go with the trainer.

that fat loss program sounds like a waste of money.  don't even consider it.  if i had a treadmill, i'd never get to use it, bec there'd be too many interruptions at home to get more than five minutes of exercise done.  if that's your situation, then i suggest getting a real personal trainer for six weeks to TEACH you things you don't already know about fitness, like routines that work for your time schedule, your age, your fitness level, your exercise preferences, your fitness goals, etc.

a personal trainer might say, "spend half an hour on the treadmill."  but they'll also give you advice on how intensely to exercise, how often to do cardio v weights, whether gym classes might be a good idea for you, etc.

there's nothing wrong w/a treadmill.  but i'd keep my gym membership w/all of the cardio and strength training options and use the $600 for some knowledge.  good luck.

I would go elsewhere and hire a personal trainer for a well rounded fitness program. I use a PT and also have an elliptical at home.
Don't do the program. The guarantee only applies if you follow the diet *exactly* and the tools on this web site are much better. There is no nutritional advise or flexibility. I would go for the treadmill or a personal trainer (not the fat loss program).

At goodlife, don't use the lowest level trainer, go up at least one step. Well worth the price difference. PM me if you like, I've had a couple of goodlife trainers and looked into the fat loss program, too.
I would personally go with a personal trainer because I have trouble motivating myself but if you don't then I say go for the treadmill. I had bought a treadmill in the past but it ended up being a clothing rack. I now have a personal trainer and it's the best thing I have ever invested in for my health. Luck to ya!
I would go with the treadmill.  I love running and don't need the motivation that a personal trainer provides.  And honestly, alot of personal trainers don't really have too much expertise other than what they learn at the gym....which is info you could find on the internet anyway.
If it were me, Id choose the treadmill... becuase of the cost. But if it were hard for me to push myself into constantly using it, then I would consult a personal trainer. At least I would know they are going to be there to keep me on track.

ofcourse go for a personal trainer, cuz he/she can help u on so many ways.and its his/her area of expertise
treadmill, i lost 50+lbs without any trainer using a bike
there are enough people on the internet to tell you what to eat and what not to eat, how much and when for free. unlimited advices vs 18  and you get the treadmill
make a pick
I'd say get the treadmill. Or find a cheaper/better personal trainer. Sounds like a lot of money if its just going to be mostly treadmill work.
i would get a treadmill, you can simply look workouts up, to be honest with you

Amanda,

I'm a member of Goodlife too and while I didn't do the fat loss program (I was skeptical as well) I did decide to use a trainer for 10 sessions.

I have to say it was one of the best decisions I had ever made. While I'm already a gym goer I found that my trainer pushed me harder than I would ever pushed myself. He also taught me a lot about how to burn more calories and to be efficient with my workout time.  I was shocked about how quickly I was able to see an improvement in my fitness level.

Although I don't still see him (too pricey for me) I often use his workouts on my own.

But overall it really depends on your workout style. Some people buy a treadmill and it becomes a clothes rack. Others use it everyday. Be honest with yourself about how likely you are to use it.

Good luck!

I'd get a bike or elliptical over a treadmill over a trainer, haha! But I'm always in the mood to workout at night time, when my gym is closed, so it really just matters (like ayngelina said) when and how you work out. I like working out during commercial breaks of my favorite shows too, which is another perk of getting an at-home machine.
thank you guys for your input !!!
join a gym..this way you have a treadmill and can get a trainer for cheap
I have a trainer for strength training and let me tell you, I would have been lost without him!  He designed a program for my specific needs and goals and has not only taught me the proper technique and work ethic for the machines but has shown how to push myself without hurting myself.  He also gave me a cardio program to compliment my strength training and is always available to answer all my newbie questions.  Honestly, he's the best investment I've ever made.  That said, the program you're looking at seems to be cardio specific and pretty easy to do yourself.  Save the money or find a gym with a better program.  And if it's a question of motivation, I've seen a lot of support groups on this site designed for just that.  Heck, just pm me, I'll motivate ya!  Yay!  You go girl! Woo Hoo! See, it's working already isn't it;)
