Cinema snacking

Quote  |  Reply
Okay I know there's a thread here somewhere about it but I can't find it, so...

I'm going to watch a film this evening and wondered about suggestions for food I can buy (not make as I will be making a quick stop at the supermarket before going out but not going home).

Preferably something that won't make a mess in the dark and that is nice and chewy so will last a long time (and obvs low cal :oP goes without saying really...)

Thanks in advance :o)

I mix peanuts and raisins.

It's not low cal (300) but it's lower than almost anything you'll buy in the theater.

Sugar Free fruitellas are good for the chewing thing! Cremosa sugar free lollies are also only around 50 calories.  Salt and Vingear Snack a jack popcorn is 48 calories.  Diet Coke, Haribo lite.  Or try some frozen yogurt from the ice cream counter in the cinema.  The little tubs they sell in the cinema tend to have calories written on them which helps.  Raspberries are low calorie and yummy!
Sometimes gas stations, etc, will have microwave that you can make your own popcorn (a whole bag of the light or smart pop is around 230 calories or something... usually between 220 and 240.) Or you can try sugar-free starbursts?  I usually make a mini-bag of popcorn before I go and bring my own liter of diet mountain dew.  :-D

fresh raspberries or blueberries are low in calories, extremely good for you, and are perfect to snack on right out of the container

berry berry kix cereal is sweet but not sugary and is only 100 calories for a cup, as are a lot of other cereals

a cup of oyster crackers (just like saltines, but much smaller!) is 195 calories, but they're salty and yummy and take awhile to eat if you eat them one at a time

above all, I would say try not to bring an entire bag of something into the theater. either measure out a serving beforehand or buy a single serving size. and if you want an interesting soda, just buy some crystal light and add it to some sparkling water!

So many good ideas.

I know Tesco definitely does Snack-a-Jacks, and the raisins idea reminded me of these little cranberry fruit packs you can get. I love blueberries too but they may turn out to be a little pricey - lollies are good though as they last a long time.

Thanks people :o)
Good idea to think through forward and already good ideas!

Just a suggestion, distracted eating can go quick so maybe just be concious to eat slowly.  Remembers mindlessly stuffing my mouth with snacks while watching the screen.
You can buy the mini-boxes of cereal and just bring one of those.
Welch's sells bags of dried fruit which come in 3 flavors and are really tasty and have 90 calories. Blow-pops have 50 calories. You can buy the 100-calorie packs of almost anything now. I also like to make my own mix of dry cereal ( I use puffed wheat, rice, or corn because its the lowest in calories), Along with a mix of freeze dried fruit which is low in calories, and maybe if I want too add more of abit higher calorie things, peanuts or almonds, dried fruit, or yogurt covered raisins, yum. Also, Pirates Booty id good if they sell it at stores near you, its 130 calories for the single serving bag which is quite a lot actually. Also, Glenny's spud Delites, Don't know if they sell them around you either, but 100 calories for the bag, comes in 3 different flavors, and are REALLY good. And, pretzels. Snyders sells 100 calories bags of different shapes and flavors, and remember those little pretzel boxes you used to eat as a kid? Yup, 100 calories. Hope that helps!

Lol if it helps anone I ended up finding the Cremosa lollies (they aren't regietered on CC but I've added them now so hopefully they will be soon - only 30Kcals!) and I also indulged in a Curly Wurly (115 but had some cals to spare) and a bag of sugar snap peas (lucky it was a fairly loud film :oP) - I didn't have time but I was going to get a small pot of cream cheese for the peas which is always to die for mmmm
sunflower seeds IN the shell

sugarfree bubble gum

sugar free hard candies

radishes (or other veggies)

healthy popcorn from home

low fat jerky
