Hi!  I wrote the people who have the new STRIVE Equipment - we have it at our YMCA - I wanted to know what the calorie burn would be and this guy wrote me back and this is what he had to say:

1, Calories burned during workout - Some charts and figures vary, but I will give it a shot.  An average 139 lb. person will burn 440 calories an hour in traditional circuit training.  A 200 lb person will burn 590 calories.  Obviously, these numbers are approximations and will change relative to metabolism and amount of lean muscle mass.  But, for arguments sake, lets say the 139 lb person burned 220 calories during a 30 minute workout.

  2.  Calories burned after workout - A recent study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning research that had 24 women do 4 sets of 10 exercises and then measured their 24 hour post exercise energy expenditure.  On average, they burned 300 more calories during the day than they did if the did not lift weights.  So, add another 300 calories for the workout day.  We now total 520 calories during the workout day for the 139 lb person.   I am so going to keep up with the STRIVE - I love it - you burn more calories when you stop than when you are working out!!    Just wanted to share!

Hello,

Iam very much interested in lifting weights.. and was wondering if any one could recommend a free weights work out dvd/tape that I can buy that will aid in my training.. Iam not sure what exactly to do as for as reps/ form/ etc.. I would much rather work out at home than to join a gym ..

thank you~

Cathe Friedrich has great strength dvd's.  Depending on your fitness level, she has some geared more toward beginners and some very advanced dvd's.  It can be painful, but I love her Power Hour dvd, as well as Push/Pull and Supersets (those are all probably considered intermediate).  She also has a couple of series for heavy lifting, but I'm not really into that.  You can read descriptions of her dvd's at her site cathe.com.

I also have the Get Ripped dvd from Jari Love.  It's a lot of fun too.  Not as hard as Cathe, but good for a beginner/intermediate.  I think it's good to have a few different workouts to work out different muscles in different ways.
Thanx for the input I will look into those dvd's

Well, i don't know what i burn when i am lifting weights. But i read you burn  calories off for so many pounds of weight you lift. I am not sure what mag..... i readied that in. but i am sure it was men's fitness..I do a lot of work outs with weights with my legs and my arms. Now i have added my ankel weights to my ab swing work out. Thinking if i  swing or up and down i will burn more calories. And it looks like it is working. I went from a 40 to a 35 so added weights to a good work out does help a lot with the calories you burn..
I joined the ymca and noticed that they have a circuit weight thing there but I have no idea how to use any of the machines.. I always end up walking out getting frustrated with the machines..

Have a good day!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
