cleaning service ate my tastycake

Quote  |  Reply
For my birthday yesterday i treated myself to a cleaning service. They came in and did a deep "spring clean." The place looks great... however, they ate one of two tastycakes I had sitting out in the kitchen!!

These weren't just any tastycake. You see, I'm from Philly but I live in Boston now. It's nearly impossible to find Tastycakes around here. But my DH knows I love them, he knew I didn't want a real bday cake since I'm dieting, so somehow, someway, he found me two tastycakes and presented them to me when I woke up yesterday.

I didn't eat them - I was saving them for later, when we opened presents. I was going to share them with my kids and DH, who've never experienced a Tastycake.

You know how it is when your dieting and you are anticipating an indulgence.

So what would you do? Should I make a big stink with the cleaning service? They could've helped themselves to anything else in our cupboards, and I wouldn't have cared at all... (even if they shouldn't be munching down on my food, and technically it is theft!).

I would burn their business down.
LOL - that's sort of extreme.

But then again, we ARE talking about tastycakes.
Personally, I would call the company and explain to them what happened.

Thankfully it was just a tastycake that went missing and not more but they do need to be aware that one of their staff overstepped their boundaries.

Maybe your TastyCakes were just too good to resist.

BTW, what is a TastyCake?
It's like a twinkie, sort of, topped with butterscotch icing. I used to eat them all the time when I was a kid. It's complete crap and probably loaded with trans fats, but heck, it was my bday.

EDIT: It's similar to a Krimpet or is that a Krumpet?

EDIT again: No, wait... Krimpet is the type of TastyKake. This is what it is:

I think there's another brand that makes something similar, that is more widely available, but I'm blanking at the moment.
Jenmcc, I'd ask some of your friends in the mid-atlantic to send you more tastycakes.

I live in DC, I can get tastycakes ;)
I had a roomie in college from PA. She raved about tastycakes. The next time I get out there, I'll be sure to try some.
I love tastycakes candy cakes.  They are the best.

Did you see the cleaning personnel in your home, close enough to remember?  If there was anyway to get in touch with them, I'd do so and complain to them directly.

These days companies are so scared of losing $$ they'd probably end up firing the person who ate it if you went through company channels to complain.
This is so funny!!  I am also originally from Philly and actually worked at Tastykake.  I was a summer worker when I first started college.  That is where I met my husband (also a summer worker).  I worked on the krimpet line.  How funny!  My brother-in-law still works there.
Hee Hee!!! Pirates!!!
hahahahahahah - I lived in Philly for a couple years, and seriously - those people will not mess around with any of that hostess cake nonsense!!

Sorry your treat is missing. But maybe the cleaner is another former Philadelphia with an inability to control their TastyCake love. Cut em a lil slack :)

And happy bday!
I only know what a tastycake is because of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum character.  :)

Sorry 1/2 your b-day treat was stolen!!
Hmmm...now I remember why the name "Tastykake" sounded so familiar:

From the book, "Wilber Winkle Has A Complaint" (hilarious book, btw): a string of letters here, here, here, here, and here.

Sorry. Back on topic. But they do sound very, er, tasty. And it was rather tacky for the cleaning crew to indulge without your permission. :)
Yes, I would definately complain to the cleaning company!  Maybe they could buy you another Tasteycake or at least pay you for it!  That's just not right!!!  Maybe your DH could let the company know where he got it and they could order you another one.  It's the principal of the whole thing!!!!
I did end up calling and complaining. The lady on the phone was quite nice, very sympathetic, said it was definetly NOT appropriate to eat our food, and she'd talk to the crew.

I honestly couldn't have cared less if they'd eaten any other snack in the house, it was just this. But, seeing as C-C gives them a D, and one package is 320 calories, I suppose the thief did me a favor!!!

I am choosing to look at it that way - it is kind of funny, and if nothing else, makes for a good party story. :-)

P.s. HOSTESS - that was the other brand! I couldn't remember. Thx. This is the same stuff ... only better. Okay it's really not better or worse - it's the nostalgia of a childhood treat.
