CLEAR the room....she's in a rage!

OK....I just took an international call (caller ID on phone) and this person who did not speak very good english starts trying to tell me stuff, still don't know exactly who he was or for whom he was calling, but i did catch that some company here had SOLD my information to them...
He knew my name, address, phone number (obviously) and way too much personal information such as financial (in the form of what credit cards i have etc)....not only did he reel this off to me but actually expected me to confirm it!
Not in your life mate, i was/am furious that someone who doesn't even live here knows so much about me....i tell you he got the blunt end of my tongue and thankfully he seemed to understand spoken english better than he could speak it...and no i did not swear or shout but was clear about what i was thinking.
What right has anyone got to sell my personal information....Bastards!
*grabs a pitchfork*
LETS GO!!!!
Ugh, that happened to me recently. The guy (who was Indian) tried saying I'd taken out a payday loan in 2005 and hadn't repaid it and that his company was taking me to court for 4 grand on Monday. He had my name, address, phone numbers, banking information, where I worked, driver's license number, social security number.....I was freaking out. I kept telling him I wasn't giving him any information or confirming anything, and if they were going to bring me to court they were more than welcome to send me a summons in the mail. He finally freaked out and told me he'd kill me and then hung up.

I would have been pissed too!
But I suspect your info was stolen not sold. Cause legitimate companies don't ask you to confirm stuff after they buy it.
Oh you maybe right!...
nugg..yes he was Indian or Pakistani

Do you have caller ID? What was the number they called you from?
all i know is it was international...which can't be traced i've tried it before...
a lot of people don't know that in the u.s., when you call a call center to place an order for something, there's a possibility that the person taking your call is in prison.
yep. there are companies trying to save a buck on their labor costs who can pay inmates extremely low wages and get a tax cut for doing it.
and you're giving your name, address, phone #, credit card number and expiration to this person ...
yeah, bad idea.
but i agree, that person had stolen your info, or purchase stolen info.
there are security breaches with companies all the time -- i just heard about t-mobile getting hacked the other day.
Alot of companies are outsourcing their work to India call centers. They are less expensive and the typical call center employee in India is a college graduate but unless they identify on whose behalf they are calling I wouldn't give out any information.

Oh boy, I had no idea, that's scary... =/
Note to self: Never order anything over the phone. <_<
I had a strange thing happen the other day and I still don't know what to think of it.
I got a thank you letter from the North Carolina Food Bank for my $25 donation.
1. I didn't make any donatation to any food bank ever
2. I live in Ohio.
So, if someone did steal my identity, why are they making donations with it in another state??! Also, I have not seen anything come up on my credit reports about any new accounts being opened or anything.
My guess is that it was an accident of some sorts, but you never know these days...
With identity theft on the rise it might be a very good idea to get a copy of your credit report and check things out. Also keep a close eye on bank accounts.

Hmm. I don't want to scare you, but awhile ago my credit card company called me telling me I had to cancel my credit card due to fraud. They said that my number had been compromised and I asked them how they knew. They said that the person/people had tried to use my credit card overseas to make a donation. I guess that's how some people do it. They make small donations to see if they can get away with it, and then go for something bigger. I'm Canadian, but it could still be a similar situation.
thank you for the update! I will definitely call the card companies!
good call firebrand.. I checked my account and there was $25 to the food bank and $10 to Skype?? what.. did Oprah steal my credit card number?! I changed the account number and they are going to credit my account for the money disputed. I also plan on getting my computer professionally cleaned so I can get rid of any viruses and whatnot.
