Clif Bar and Slim Fast Diet

Quote  |  Reply

I am doing a 1600 calorie per day routine in order to drop 30 lbs in about 110 days.  At the same time I am doing a minimum 30 minute brisk walk each day plus 30 to 45 minutes of cardio 2 to 3 times per week.

I am going with a Clif or Luna Bar and a SlimFast Optima shake for breakfast as well as lunch - that puts me at about 400 calories each for breakfast and lunch (give or take a few depending on the flavor of the bar), leaving around 800 calories for the rest of the day for dinner and snacks.

Have any of you had success with a combination of SlimFast and Clif or Luna bars for one to two meals a day, not feeling extremely hungry or lethargic, etc?

This site recommends a weight loss of about 1.5 pounds a week .... 30 pounds in 110 days seems a bit more accelerated than that, isn't it?

I've tried SlimFast in the past and find them useful for occasional meal replacements... but on a regular basis, they bored me to tears and left me hungry.

=^..^= MOLLY  (are you drinking enough water?)

It is about 16 weeks (goal was Sep. 6 to December 31 time frame) and 30 lbs. so it is like 1.9 lbs a week.

I am not trying to hurt myself and I don't think it is overly aggressive - I think it would probably be 2+ punsds per week the first 4 - 5 weeks and then it will taper off.

With all of the varieties of Clif and Luna bars out there and SlimFast shakes I was thinking I could get throgh most days with BOTH a Clif and a SlimFast for breakfast as well as lunch in order to feel satisfied and full - just wondered if anyone else out there has tried this and been successful.

And of course I am going for 64+ oz. of water per day...

Well the problem with that is, it's a system to make you lose weight and not to lose weight and keep it off.

What typically happens after you lose the weight is you stop drinking the slim fast. I mean why do it if you lost the weight, and you start eating again, what will happen is you will gain the weight back.

Best bet is save your money and just eat healthy, I have tried the slim fast and it worked but the scenario I wrote above is what happened to me, and happens to many. If you think you can eat healthy afterwards, that is usually not the case. If it was then you would just eat healthy now. You can count your calories and eat every meal and lose 2 lbs a week.

yeh i have done weeks like that.

the optima shakes keep me full.

i think its best if you have a shake and something high fiber like an apple.

i didnt gain back the wt. you still have to count cals. but its really nice for when you dont feel like messing around with measuring and thinking about what you want to eat that day.

i think the slim fast made my skin look nice too (biotin, vitamin e etc)

i second what sulamar said! what happens when you end the "diet" (evil evil word!) ?  you obviously can't eat bars and shakes two meals a day for ever!

why not try to come up with a variety of meals with that many calories that you can eat instead of bars and shakes? that way you will know what you need to eat to keep the weight off! there are so many much yummier things you can eat for 400 calories than bars and shakes!
that sounds really boring. Why not just replace those with regular food calorie equivalents?

I used slim fast 16 years ago and was so hungry. I figured out I can eat as many calories that are in those and feel satisfied. But hey whatever works go for it. I just love FOOD

Guess I need to look at the "food" portion of this site for things that are nutritious, filling, tasty, and around 400 calories or less.

Pert of the reason to go with the SLimFast / Clif bars is because I am generally too lazy to "make" breakfast and this would be "easy" from that standpoint.

After I get to where I want to be ultimately, which is 185 lbs, I would go with Slimfast / Clif bar (or whatever is actually nutritious-filling-tasty-400 calories) for breakfast only.

I just started on this whole "Counting idea" less than a week ago so maybe as I poke around more on the "food" side of things I can work on "lifestyle" more and "diet" less...

I think going with the clif bars is the way to go, high energy food keeps you content for a long time. Go with oatmeal raisin walnut.
It's the greatest.
400 calories a meal? if you ate real food you could eat so much more that that. why is slim fast better?

I hear you on the too lazy for breakfast thing, midnight.  I have had SlimFast Optima shakes for breakfast, and then either another shake, or a salad for lunch, and it didn't get too old.  I mixed up the flavors, and didn't do it every single day, maybe 4-5 days a week.

Plus, if you're drinking a lot of water, you should be full too.

Everyone's different, but I like the SlimFast plan.  It fits if you are too busy to make a proper breakfast, even after the initial weight loss ends.  Good luck!

I'm doing the shake in the morning for breakfast, a turkey sandwich, green beans, diet soda and chips for lunch and grilled chicken, fish or veggie burger for dinner with baked fries, pasta or rice, veggies and tea. If I get hungry I have apples and caramel or a slimfast snack bar. Overall I'm trying to loose a little over 100 pounds. I'm in it to win it. Good Luck!

I used the slim fast shakes in the morning for a long time mainly for the same reason as you- who wants to wake up early enough to worry about breakfast?  The shakes you can just grab and go.  So I would say keep the shakes around for the days you have to get going quickly, and on days that are a little more laid back find other options to keep it mixed up.  I've always found it easier to eat the same foods during the day and have different stuff at dinner.  Then there is less thinking to what your eating and you know where you stand for the day.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I now have a huge variety of Clif and Luna bars stocked up at work for breakfast and lunches and am alternating vanilla and chocolate slimfast.

So for now I am doing a slimfast / clif for breakfast and the same for lunch but not STRICTLY.  Today I had a lunch meeting and had a 1/2 portion caesar salad with chicken.

I think as I start to record "small wins" - Lost 5, Lost 10, etc. then I will gradually ease back from clif and slimfast at lunch and just do that for breakfast.

Did anyone think to ask what his current weight and workout plan was?  If he is not active at all, consumes 3,100 calories a day, and is about 200 pounds, he would lose about 3 lbs a week on his diet without even exercising.  With exercise, possibly double that, which is not necessarily healthy.  I am assuming that you are trying to lose the weight for a reason?  If so, then try to "practice" being healthy while on this diet by learning how to make healthy meals, start planning ahead to bring healthy food to work, incorporate more activity into your day, etc.  You can do this while still replacing a meal or two with slimfast or clifbars.  They are healthy foods, too, people.  I happen to love their taste.
I've been doing the slimfast shake for breakfast with skim milk for breakfast with a 90 cal granola bar for breakfast and that holds me over a good 5-6 hours until I get a break for lunch.   I also really like the Slimfast candy bars -- the carmel and peanut ones that are smaller and around around 120 calories delicious if you are a snickers addict like myself! Good luck!
