Let's take a close look at the ingredients in diet pills

I've already done the research on ephedra/ephedrine in another post.  http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/2059 3.html  (see post #16)

Now I'm ready to examine Bitter Orange, which is an ingredient in many weight loss formulas

Here's what the Mayo Clinic has to say

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bitter-orang e/AN01218

"There's no definitive evidence that bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) is effective for weight loss. After ephedra was taken off the market due to its health concerns, many consumers ? and weight-loss supplement manufacturers ? began looking for alternatives. One such alternative is bitter orange, which has become a common ingredient in many weight-loss supplements marketed as "ephedra-free." Unfortunately, many of the health problems associated with ephedra seem likely to also occur with bitter orange.

Bitter orange contains synephrine and octopamine ? chemicals that are similar to ephedrine in ephedra. These chemicals may cause high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart rhythm disturbances (arrhythmias), which can lead to heart attack, stroke and even death ? as may occur with ephedra. Also, bitter orange juice ? like ephedra ? can inhibit metabolism of many drugs, increasing the amount of the drug in your body and the risk of adverse effects.

Because dietary supplements are subject to far less rigorous regulatory oversight than are pharmaceutical drugs, they may contain higher amounts of bitter orange....."

I am a new member here.  Thank  you so much for all your research.  I have tried a number  of those pills and none of them have worked.  You provided ample proof of that.  Great work!

Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with hunger.  I eat about 1200 cal a day and exercise and I am constantly hungry.

Liz
Thanks so  much for the advice.  I put the list on my desktop for easy reference.
I'm really glad that I found these postings, the information is helpful to me as I was just recently chosen to participate in an 8wk weightloss and fitness study that will include supplements i.e. hydroxycut.   I've done a lot of research myself on the company and the various products.  I have also been associated with the Advocare product line and have taken supplements in the past with excellent results.  I do not take anything w/ephedra, ephedrine or anything else they want to call it.  It's illegal and very dangerous.  Thankfully, I have a very balanced mind set on ANY supplements taken w/a healthy eating plan AND exercise.  It's all about balance and moderation.  I take a multi vitamin, omega 3 fish oil and drink water (lots of it!) every day.  The caffeine amounts in the supplements is a personal determination I think.  You have to know what your body can handle and what effects it has on your system.  I know the amount that is appropriate for me and that is not always the amount that the company recommends on the bottle.  There will always be controversial information and studys or cases of false claims with just about all supplements.  Again, know your body, know your limits and understand that your body is different from everyone else, so don't try to look like everyone else or the models or whatever.  I have a 16 year old daughter that is size 5 with size D bra and she's 5'3.  I'm 5'7, size D, and right now I'm a size 12, which is what I was in HS.  I can not maintain a size 6 with my body type.  I look very unhealthy and I lost most of my bra size down to a B and I was devastated!  I can not have my daughter thinking that she is fat or have an unhealthy vision of herself.  Therefore, my determination to have a positive self image for her is very important.

Best thing..... talk to your Dr.  Take information in to them and have a discussion.  The more knowledge you have the better.
Bumping these up.  People need to know that Diet Pills DON'T work!
How about Lipovox?  Supposedly it is comprised of whole foods but how can they be good for you when they are processed?
