It's not you, it's the clothes

I have kvetched about this before, but I feel like kvetching again, so bear with me!!

I did a little clothes shopping today over my lunch break. I hit one of my favorite stores, Ann Taylor. I tried on size 0p's pants and tops. They zip. Technically, they fit. But they look funny on me - just as funny as the size 6p's looked on me 12 lbs ago in January!

It's weird to see the same odd bumps and bulges and have the exact same fit problems. You'd think that once you lost all the fat and shrunk down several sizes, you'd have no problem finding flattering clothes. You think that it's the body flab that's standing between you and looking good in your clothes.

It isn't the body flab - and it's not me, either. I look perfectly fine naked. It's THE CLOTHES. They are designed for someone else's figure, not mine.

Even if I lost another 10 lbs.... they would still look funny on me, and cut into my waist at the wrong spot. They may fit fine width wise, but they don't fit length-wise.

Even if I lifted weights 5 days a week (which I have done in the past, so I know this from experience), they'd still look funny on me, the rise being too short and the pockets too large, making my body look distorted and odd shaped.

Sigh.... I guess I should learn how to sew my own clothes! (except I do know how to sew and it bores me to tears).

Why not try getting your clothes altered for a better fit?  Lots easier than sewing your own!
I share your pain...I find it so difficult to find a pair of pants that exactly fits, even after I lost weight and started toning like mad. And nothing makes you feel better than an awesome fitting pair of pants (and nothing worse than an ill-fitting pair). This is exactly why I have one store and only one store that I have ever liked to buy pants at....including before and after I lost weight. They just...fit. They have never changed their sizes and they sell almost exclusively jeans (basically the only thing I wear lol). All the jeans are arranged by size and fit, so they are easy to find the ones you want. I love it, makes buying jeans so much easier and faster! I went in the other day and out of the first three pairs I tried on I got two. I could spend hours (literally hours) in other stores finding one pair that I sorta like, then probably won't get them anyways since I really didn't like them that much....*sigh* if they ever go out of business I will be unconsolable lol.

i saw that your hips are very tiny in your profile..

perhaps try some juniors stuff on?

or womens things that are meant to be worn on the hips instead of the waist?

I have the SAME problem.  However, not all clothes fit the same way, and it takes a lot of trial and error to find stuff that fits well.  My ex always used to tell me that I had a severe shopping problem, but it was okay because I didn't have a buying problem at all...  Honestly, I can't even pinpoint what my exact issue is.  I'm pretty little, but I have a much larger than average rib cage, I am not stick straight (I do have modest curves...), and I have larger thighs and butt than most people my size (one of the down sides of running too much...).

However, certain jeans fit way better than others (Lucky Brand!) and certain stores seem to be more flattering (J.Crew!).  Don't give up hope!
wlmich - i've been meaning to find a good tailor.

trxr - what is the name of the store? :-)

curses- yeah, sometimes juniors fit me better, that's true. But they tend to be too long - built for taller people. I have the best luck with petites, but even then it's often close but not quite right. I definetly need petite not just on bottom but on top - I'm very short from shoulder to chest.

runner_girl - I do the same thing, spend hours and hours trying things on, but not buying! Lucky Brand doesn't fit me - way too long for my body. Jcrew I do have some luck with. Something about their cut gives me the illusion of having hips. Love the quality of the fabrics too.
The clothes at Ann Taylor do not fit me.  Each clothing designer uses a model for their clothing line.  They then add an inch per size.  So, if they will not fit in any size because you do not have the same style body as their model..... Try a different store.  Good luck.
I'm with you on the larger than average rib cage.  Seriously, I always joke with my boyfriend that my ribs stick out farther than my boobs.  He laughs, but it's not funny to me!  Basically, I'm built like a boy.  Broad shoulders, tiny hips.  Banana Republic is the only store that I can go into and grab my size and know that it will fit.

Sounds like you need to just find a new store - once you find one that has a fit for you you'll be all set!

Hmm....I have the same problem with "adult" clothing.  They never, ever fit right so I am stuck shopping in juniors for all eternity.  Even the petite sizes don't fit.  Since you had this problem when you were heavier, maybe it's time to switch stores.
You should start considering the idea that some labels fit differently than others! :)

Ann Taylor never fits me, regardless of my size. The proportions they use just arent right for my body.

Try shopping at all sorts of different stores, and pay attention to what fits you the best :)
I prefer to shop online and return anything that doesn't look good once I get it.

newport-news is my favorite right now.
