Hi~ ......

Ive lost 45 lbs (44 today) .... and the difference ive noticed is that I went down from a size 16 petite to a 12 petite which is becoming lose now

Ive read some people weighing between 130 and 135lbs are size 4-6.... yet I am a 12 or maybe a 10 by now...

Just wondering why this is such a difference ~

Where did you start and where are you now?

Depends on your shape and muscle mass.

I started out in a size 24/26 at 294 pounds. Now I'm 124 pounds and I wear a size 2. I'm 5'5.

Height also comes into factor.

Are you a pear shape by any chance?

I haven't dropped sizes significantly, despite the 60 lbs weight loss. I started at 225 and wore a size 16-18 in pants and now I'm 165 and wear a 10-12.

Pear I am.... and 5'2"

I honestly never cared much about clothes size just always shopping in Lane Bryant was depressing .... Im happy now I can go to almost any store and something will fit~

x17star17x - have you hit a plateau and how did you overcome it~

i am eating my bmr of 1400 - just thought i'd ask.....

You look amazing ~

Hi,

I'm 5ft 4in, and when I weighed 135lbs (not working out at all; just dieting & maybe walking a little) I was a size 8. Now I work out pretty good. I am at 143 and I wear a 5 or 6 (depending on the brand and if it's juniors or women's sizes).

I'm kind of pear/slender shaped if that helps (small chest, narrow shoulders, kinda big love handles and thick thighs/rear).

cellophane_star - you look great~!!

I was bit curious if it was only me or I was just reading those posts .... just wanted a variety .... just to see where I stood if I was ok or not~

I used to hit them all the time. I found that increasing fiber, water, relaxing, and getting more sleep fixed them. A lot of mine were caused due to stress.

Having a pear shape explains a lot. Your 'bottom' is larger than someone that is of another shape (any other shape) so your pant size will be larger. It's not a bad thing, it just means you may lose weight in your upper body faster than your lower.

star..you are reading my mind~ .. eating my bmr, increased water and trying to increase fiber and getting to bed around 9pm to get up at 4:30 to work out.. is what I am trying to do~

littlemalynda  that is interesting .... being that you are two inches taller... im guessing body type plays a major part

Wow X17star17X, I can't believe the change before and after!! You look like a complete different person!! BRAVO!!

As for my answer to this post: I'm pear shape (33-25.5-36) at 121, 5'1" and most of the time I wear a size 4 (loose but comfy). I do have a lot of dresses and they're usually size 2 or small. For tops, I usually take small or x-small. For bottoms, I rarely fit in a size 2 in european sizes but always in american sizes.

I started at 160 and size 14 was becoming smaller and smaller.

how did you do it, loose all that weight and within what time frame. i gave birth to a beautiful little girl 11 month ago and i cannot loose a pound.
heres the thing about sizes  each disigner or company has there own   number they go by. if you looking at size  for pants go to the stors that use messurements like 31w 30L what ever your numbers are. because they go by messurments each of the disigners and companys  become more standardised in size compared to 6, 8, 10
I'm only 5'0" and when I weighed 125+ I was in a 6p. Would be in an 8p if I was 135, a 10 at 145, a 12 at 155. For me I find that there's a 10 lb difference between sizes from 6 through 12. But only a 5 lb difference between sizes 00-0-2-4.... and sometimes not even 5 lbs!!

I'm not a pear shape. I'm more of an apple - my hips are always comparatively skinny, but because of the belly I need to go up in size for pants too.

Though now that I've lost the weight, I've begun to realize I'm actually more of an "inverted triangle" or perhaps really an hourglass... but I digress!!!

If the 12 is loose, I bet you *are* in a 10 by now. Maybe it's time to go do a try-on at the mall? One thing I know is that we get used to seeing our bodies a certain way, and it takes some time for our brains to catch up and realize we've gotten skinnier. Buying the wrong size clothes works both ways - it's not just women holding on to the old size even though they've gained... women tend to hold on too long to a particular size after they've lost too!

Take a friend with you to help you see yourself and give an honest critique. Try on lots of clothes in both 10's and 12's. Even try the 8... who knows??

I'm 5'2, about 134, and I wear a size 5 or a size 7. :-) I'm a pear shape.

For me, I know I gained some muscle. At 150/155 I was in a size 9/11. When I got to 136, 137, I was in a slightly-snug size 7. I'm guessing I lost inches but not pounds because now I'm in a slightly-snug size 5 and those 7s are big on me.

I can't really explain *why* it's that way--I've always just fit into smaller sizes for my height/weight. I do know that when I was overweight, I got my body fat percentage measured and although I don't remember the number, the trainer was surprised because it was lower than she had expected, considering that I was overweight. So I know I'm generally just a more muscular person with less fat.

It's really interesting to see the difference in pant sizes for similar weights. I admit, I care more about the decrease in sizes then the actual size.

At 5'3 and 170 pounds, I started out at a tight 14 (loose 16). Now at 135, I fit comfortably in a size 8. That's 3 pant sizes down! I never believed I could ever get down to a 2 or 4 because my body just isn't shaped that way. And that's fine with me - I'm fully satisfied with my weight now.

I think I should go and try on sizes again [= because the 12 is loose so Im just wondering....

thanks everyone for your input~ helps a lot...

Depends on your shape and muscle mass.

 Yeah, height and shape definately matter. I am 5'2, and was in a 26 at 255lbs, now I am 242, and in a 22/24.  At 130 I was in a size 10.

I was a 22/24 at 246lbs.  Now in the 190's and in 14plus which are getting too loose.  I will be trying the regular 14's on soon I think (in pants) .  I am hour-glass shape I think.  Also feeling pretty comfortable in an XL t-shirt and even some L which is neat.  Pretty close to being back into regular size clothes and not going back to Lane Bryant or equal again.

Edit - I am 5'3"

I don't really like to use size numbers because different companies are so inconsistent.  So for me:

I'm 5'2, and I started at 185 ish.  I measured roughly 40-35-40 (generally size 14-16)

I'm currently around 130, and measure 36-27-36.  I guess that makes me an apple, since I have narrow hips in comparison to my waist.  So as far as pants are concerned...depending on the style, brand, fit, etc.  (size 6-8?).  I hate pants shopping.

Deffinatly think body shape has a lot to do with it....I was a 16/18 at 183 now at 163 I am a size 10/12 (so 4 pants sizes in 20lbs) I have the measurments for an hourglass figure.....and I am only 5'2" So still have alot to lose.....

don't forget that the distance between your hip bones plays a part in pants size too. I'm 5'8", 130 pounds and I wear a size 6-8ish in jeans, however, I can usually get away with a size 4 in dresses.

I don't think you can compare from person to person pants size vs. weight. Everyone is different! :)
