5'5" Club anyone?? Similar YCC-ers working together!! (Sorry, but we're now closed.)
I saw this in the Weight Loss forum and thought it'd be great for the YCC forum (I hope that's alright) :]
I know that there have been/are posts similar to this, but I haven't seen one where we actually work together to reach our goals. We all need motivation no matter what shape, size, weight, etc. we are, and I think that if we all work together here, have an optional weigh-in day (Sunday), and tell each other about our goals and accomplishments, we'll feel even more motivated to get these pounds off than before!
If you're 5'5" (or within 1-2 inches of it), you're welcome to talk here!! Get acquainted with the other members here with similar stats and goals, and motivate each other!
Tell who you are, your stats, what you eat, your goal weight, your story, and talk to other people about all of it!! Come here if you need to vent, need support, advice, or whatever.
Hi everyone!
Gwynneth
I'm about 5ft 5, and I'll be 19 in a little less then two weeks.
Starting weight: 170-ish
Current weight: 140
Goal weight: 125? I really have no idea, so I figure I'll stop when I'm happy with how I look.
I started dieting about a year and a half ago when I finally hit 170lbs and decided I needed a change. So far I've lost about 30lbs by eating consciously, but I think I've hit my plateau, so I'm going to start hitting the gym soon enough =)
I'd love to start swimming again, but I just can't seem to find a bathing suit that fits right.
Hey Gwynneth! That's great! I wish my weight would finally budge :/ Maybe it will soon, though.
As for the plateau, I've heard that you just need to "zig-zag" your calories to get over it. You'll eventually start losing again :] Keep up the great work!
Thanks alot! I will definitely try that. Right now I eat maybe 1100-1200cals on an average day, so if I were to zig-zag...would I like, maybe up my intake to 1500-1600cals for a day or two and then go back to my regular eating habits the next?
Yeah, like you would go from 1100 to 1700, then down to 1500, up to about 1650, then down to 1200, etc... It could actually be a bit fun, getting to eat more :P
Hey everyone :)
Name: Heather
Age: 20
Height: 5'5''
SW: 150+lbs (sedentary lifestyle)
CW: 128.0lbs (exercise about 3x/week)
GW: ~125lbs (and Fit! :D)
Calories Consumed: Currently, 1200 weekdays, 1500 weekends. I might go up to 1300 on a weekday if I exercise :)
Started CC on: January 27th, I think - I've been at it almost 6 months now! not bad for my first diet to last more than 2 weeks :P hehe.
I've thought about revising my goal, but I think I'll just keep up the workouts and try to stay active. After 125, wherever my body takes me is allright with me (as long as its between 120 and 130. I'd be a little freaked if I passed either of those bounds). My story and my graph can all be found in my profile for anyone that's interested!
Thanks everyone :D
That's great that you're joining! Just remember that the weigh-ins are optional, but just in case, they're on Sunday =]
Thank you, Hanni :) I will definitely be weighing in! I want to make sure that I'm holding myself accountable... and its starting to come off in such small amounts that I get discouraged when I'm not looking at the week to week... When i do that, I can see that it really is, slowly but surely, filtering out! :)
So I havent been exercising for like a month! So I was like you know what I will wear my pedometer to know my activity level, well I have been wearing it since monday and I been walking 10,000-11,000 steps a day. About 2,000-6,000 by the time I get home from school and then I have to go walking to get up to 10,000. I am super excited :]
I am 121.6 this morning :] - the lowest I have seen on this digital scale ever, and the lowest on my spring scale which I have seen once before :]
Heather, that's great news!! Keep up the great work! About 4 more pounds to go! That must be supppperrr exciting!
This may be a dumb question, but where can you get pedometers? I probably need to get one, just to see.

Hey all...this looks like a good group to join, I needed someone around me to keep me motivated! i gained the freshman 15 in college
so now i am working on taking them off again. I was at 115lbs before college, and i realize that i will probably never be 115 again, but I want to get as close as possible. I am eating around 1200-1400 calories a day and I work out 6 out of 8 days (so every 3 days i take a break). I run for half an hour and do the stepmaster (i love it and hate it at the same time) and the eliptical for about 45 minutes. I also light weights or lots of reps (cause I don't want to gain muscle anymore), some upper body work, abs and light leg work (probably takes me around 45 minutes). I really hated working out in the beginning, but now i actually like it
.
Hanni you can get them at walmart for pretty cheap, and even the cheap ones are accurate. I bought mine for like 10 bucks.
okie, so today was my personal weigh in day and i am at 123.6 :(
it makes me sad cause last night we went to this amazing dinner party and i didnt break my diet, avoided the delicious looking dessert buffet. instead of being rewarded today i am just heavier. boo.
any advice?
Theswissmiss, try not to worry about it too much. Just remember that your weight is going to fluctuate, you may have some water weight or something, also. Just wait until your next weigh in to see if it really was actual "weight" or if it was just a fluke. Just keep looking forward :]
Plus, be proud of yourself for not going against your diet last night! It takes a lot of power to keep from over-eating/eating badly at a buffet! Go you!!
Heather, thanks! I just might go and check it out soon :D
So today is WEIGH IN :)
Start Weight: 140
Last Week: 122.6
Current Weight: 121.2 (w/ 19.3% body fat)
Goal Weight: 115/117
I am pretty proud of myself, yesterday I wasnt though because I was really low on calories when I should have ate 300 more, but I was sleeping like all day literally besides the time I went for a walk. So I know that today I should eat more which can be fun :)
I am pretty close to my goal. About 4.2 - 6.2 more pounds. I really just cant wait to see 118 which I haven't seen in about 2 years. 115 in about 3 years. I am just super stoked.
hurrah heather! You are really really close...thats such a good feeling. I should go weigh myself, but I just ate a bunch of nuts (which made me hit calorie limit) so i think i will go to the gym and then weigh in afterwards. It'll just make me feel better anyways :p.
does anyone else have an odd compulsion for nuts? I love any kind at any time. They are soooooooooo gooooooooood, i can't help but eat some everyday.
And does anyone have any ideas what i could do for dinner, since i am already at 1130 calories. maybe egg whites...?
That's great Heather! I'm so excited for you! Just keep up the great work :D:D
Theswissmiss, I love nuts, too! But, I don't eat them very often since I can never seem to fit them in without sacrificing something else :/ I might have to work on that, though, since they are super healthy for you :D
I weighed in today, and I was super disappointed. I weighed 143.2lbs! I don't understand why I keep gaining weight. It's not fair, it's not like I'm not doing everything right. I eat 1500 calories, maybe a bit more on the days I work out (which I do 4x/week!!)... Everyone keeps telling me that it's muscle weight, but shouldn't I have lost even a little bit of weight since I started nearly two months ago, instead of gain it?
Since June 1st, I have gone from 139.5 to now 143! I don't see how... I know my body may be still trying to get back to normal, but it's just so discouraging! I'll just stick with it, though. It will eventually happen. I can't keep up what I'm doing right now and not lose the weight sometime. lol!
Theswissmiss - Thanks! I know it is a good feeling. I looove peanut butter sooo much I eat it like once to twice a day like every day! I LOOOOVE it. Hahaha. I am addicted. I just bought a new jar like last weekend - its half gone. Haha. Your stats are similar to mine! I am one inch taller though, and one year younger.
Hannikate- Thanks! I would say it is muscle because I was 122 - and then I started lifting and went up to 127! I was like f' this, and stopped weight lifting its been about one month and now I am 121.6. I am just working on getting my body fat percent down, which it is going down! WHOO HOO. My goal for that is 17% and I am at 19.3% I think I have a good amount of muscle right now so I am not worried when I get my body fat down I will work on some muscle. That sounds about right, I mean it sounds like you are doing everything else right. Have you tried using a measuring tape instead? Its way more worth it.
I measured for the first time at the beginning of this month. I'm planning on measuring again at the beginning of August. How much of a difference should I look for each time? Should it be a slight change, or something significant?
Anyway, I'm Amanda. I'm pretty much right at 5'5", and 20 years old.

I was losing weight pretty steadily up until April, and have since been on a hardcore plateau at 155 lbs- mainly because I have two jobs during the summer, which leaves me very little time to work out and limited food choices. Right now I'm extra motivated because I'll be taking a trip mid-August and I'd like to lose at least 10 lbs before then. (15 would be optimal but I don't know if 15 pounds in 4 weeks is too realistic)
I'm going to start eating loads more veggies and lean proteins only and cut a lot of dairy and carbs (the grilled cheese is its own food group to me) and hopefully through diet alone I'll see some results. I also try to run when I have the time, which ends up being about 45 minute runs 4 times each week max, and when I happen to have a lot of free time, I do kickboxing for an hour, but that happens twice a week max. Other than that I'll do a few sit ups, push ups, and strength exercises in the mornings and evenings, and I stretch every night.
If anyone has any tips for me, I would really appreciate it! Especially if any of you have any experiences with trying to lose weight on an extremely busy schedule. It's just so hard when you feel like your only free time is the time you should be asleep!
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
