Thought some reflection and history might be appropriate.AN UNPLANNED START
The original OP wasnt what we now see. It was a general inquiry post to those who are or were 300+ lbs. What was your start weight, current weight, goal weight and your story?Mollymouser began tracking replies - role call, she called it. A thought - there are enough of us to form a group! On page 5, you can still my post:
Ive tweaked the OP to focus on 2008 year end. I'll be contacting those whove posted to welcome everyone along who's interested. I intend to do a monthly update although would love hearing all progress along the way.
So PMs to all and the majority confirmed they were on board.
TREKKING
"This is the voyage of the 300+ club.
Its one-year mission:
- to explore the potential of determination and persistance,
- to seek out new healthier, better quality life
- to boldy go as a group through weight losses which no other group had lost before."THE CREW
No less than 54 members have participated at some point. Included are:
The Founders:
Here from day one, six of whom remain, theyve hung through thick and thinner.
The Newbies
Not so new anymore, they joined late but brought with them new enthusiasm and stuck with us.
The Guests:
Joined midway and although they moved on, provided support and are wished the best of luck.
The OP:
Observed accepting thanks when she well knows its the group as a whole that is deserving of such recognition as well as how her own progress has roots in the mutual support from her peers (in other words - thanks back atcha!).
The Graduates:
Two members who'll go unnamed (Brett and Danielle :D) who've hit their goal but stuck with us as reminders of how this is possible and we will do it.... and so, 2008 comes to a close.
For a few goalweight achieved and for others the landmark in their continued success. Watch out 2009 - we are on a roll and goals will be met!
Hi and Happy New Year! I am brand new to this site, just registered a couple days ago and began reading through the forums and setting up my profile, diet plan, and logs. Also created my first journal entry today.
Current/Jan 1 Weight: 308 lbs
My story... is pretty uninteresting. My weight has had several ups and downs (mostly ups) during my life. Everytime my body has a change that may affect metabolism, my weight fluctuates out of control.
Past Weights:
Age 7: <100 lbs
Age 12: 200 lbs (puberty messed w/me pretty bad)
Age 14: 135 lbs (lost with diet/exercise)
Age 18: 128 lbs (at HS graduation)
Age 20: 165 lbs (following pregnancy/miscarriage)
Age 23: 220 lbs (following birth of first child)
Age 25: 250 lbs (following birth of second child)
Age 36: 270 lbs (20 lbs of creep weight over a decade
&nb sp; &nb sp; didn't seem bad at the time)
I am 38 now. Over the last two years, I went back to college - online sitting in front of the computer. My father-in-law and my mom both passed away within 3 weeks of each other, and since they were the last of their generation, it meant a LOT of time commitment and emotional stress dealing with in their estates, etc. I also had my own first pretty major health issues arise. Finally, I quit smoking (woohooo) six months ago. All these 'life changes' seemed to play a part in bringing on this latest 40 pounds to push me over the 300 mark.
This has got to stop. I guess once I got married and started having kids, my family became my priority and I got complacent about my weight problems. They just didn't seem to matter in the big picture. Now my kids are in high school and are becoming more independent. The big change I plan to make is to finally take time for my own health and well-being.
I would like to join the 300+ club because I don't know anybody personally that weighs as much or more than me, but I could really use the support from someone who understands some of the challenges I face... It just doesn't work for me to go into a WW (or similar) meeting and talk to folks who actually weigh less than the pounds I need to lose. Their problems and challenges are NOTHING LIKE MINE!
I did look over some of the postings from last year's group and its very inspiring. Congratulations to all who are losing the weight and those who are keeping it off.
Welcome Gracie! Glad to have you here.
Sun, I am rejoining for this year again. Hopefully will do better than I did last year, but I think that I am more equipped with knowledge to make it work better this year. I will just have to work harder to work around my obstacles.

Hi :) I'm Laura. After several unsuccessful attempts over the past year, I'm just starting out again and hoping to get on track to a healthier lifestyle, and lose weight.
So: SW/CW January 1: 350 lb
Hi, my name is Tasha. I am 26 and just joined today.
I have joined a few other groups on here. But this one seems the most fitting for me. Is there a group for us or do I just have to find the thread in the forums?
I made my first journal entry today. An I am excited to get started.
My SW: 316.5 Jan 1st 2009
Hi! My name is Norma Jean (two words) I am 54 years old, 5'11". I have been married to Andy for 22 years and we have a son, John Michael, who is 20 years old attending CSUN with a Journalism major. I live in Moorpark, California (just over the hill from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library). We also have 2 Shih Tzus - Babe and Butters - both brothers from the same litter, 5 1/2 years old. They are such a joy!
In June 2007 I decided to give it ALL in losing weight. I joined Weight Watchers. As I started to lose weight my knees and muscles started giving out on me. By September 2007, I ended up being bedridden and home-bound. September 2008 I was just starting to be able to move with a walker. November 2008 I was hospitalized with a pulmonary embolism for 6 days.
I have been a participant of the group "I Can Do All Things Through Christ" since August. I was so afraid to get on the scale this morning. I have been putting it off for a few weeks. I feel like I have just ballooned and have gone out of control. I really wanted to start 2009 afresh. My husband and son stood by my side as I got on the scale. It rested on 471.6. My reaction was is that it? I truly was expecting me to be in the 490's. I went to log my weight in and come to find out - I actually lost 1 pound since my last weigh-in on December 19th. Wobbly told me about this group two months ago.
Past Weights:
Age 20: 185 lbs
Age 25: 200 lbs
Age 30: 235 lbs
Age 35: 340 lbs
Age 40: 385 lbs
Age 45: 400 lbs
Age 50: 435 lbs
Age 54: 471.6 lbs (January 1, 2009)
Starting Weight: 471.6 lbs January 1, 2009
I hope to make some new friends who can relate to being over 350 pounds. feel free to add me as a friend by clicking on my picture and I will add you too, to my friend list.
Hi! I want to continue the journey again this year!
What's your start weight? 305 lbs (Aug/Sep 2007)
What's your current weight? 234.5 lbs (Jan 1, 2009)
What's your goal weight? 185 lbs
185 is my goal right now. I know that's still high, but one of my elementary school horrors (there were so many) was when my 6th grade Math teacher brought in a kilogram scale and weighed everyone in front of the classroom. That day I weighed 86 kgs - 190 pounds - so my goal is to weigh less than that! I've been heavy my whole life and when I saw 305 on the scale at the end of August 2007, I knew that it would never get easier to exercise and develop new better habits and a new self-image - so I started. I would love to break 200 lbs in 2009, but aiming for improved health and balance is my lifelong journey. Good luck to each of you on your own journey!
Hi All, put me down for sw of 447 lbs, I have been sick so I have not been on the scale, so I am going with my last weight.
SW: 340 5/1/2007
CW: 173
GW: It was orginally 180, but I've decided to move it down to 155. This would place me right in the middle of the healthy range for my height (5'9")
I know that some people might not really appreciate me being on this board b/c I don't have a long way to go to my goal....but, I also know that I have been inspirational for a lot of people too. I have been a member of CC still May 2007 and I'm not going anywhere. Once I reach my goal, I will still be around to offer support to people struggling with their weight. This website is Great.
If you're interested in my story, you can get the abbreviated verson on my profile. :-)
Danielle, I certainly appreciate you being on this forum with us. You started out in the 300s and look how far you have come. That is an inspiration to those of us just starting out or who haven't gotten out of the 3oos yet.
Welcome all the new ppl !!! YAYAYA !! IM so happy to be starting another year here with this group. Everyone here is so supportive !! and helpful !!
I have had a horrible December . LOL ( I hate the salt monster)
Ill state my stats here again for the new ppl in the group. ( also anyone who would like to add me to friends .. please do so. )
Start weight : FEB 2008: 329 lbs
Lowest weight: 287ish lbs
Current: about 295 ( bad few weeks with christmas, and not having a refill on my Duretic pill )
Jayne.. thanks so much for everything, you truely are a great inspiration, I cant possibly tell you that enough times, and i truely appreaciate tha effort that you have put forth for this group.
Lets here it for 2009 !! ( im getting married in 25 weeks !! yayayay)

I'd like to join this group. I've been doing a fantastic job on this lifestyle change. Over the holidays I didn't once eat too much and I actually exercized a little bit.
My story (I'll keep it short):
My name is Bryan and I am 29 years old. I've always loved eating and am extremely lazy. I work pretty hard for my employer, but when I am off I love doing absolutely nothing and I used to eat 5000 calories a day without even trying. That has certainly contributed to my being overweight. I still do nothing, but I throw in walking and bicycling as often as I can.
Starting Weight: 320 lbs. (July 11, 2008)
Current Weight: 219.5 lbs. (January 1, 2009)
My goal weight is 200 lbs., but judging from my utter hatred of myself in the mirror still, I'm going to adjust it to 160 lbs.
Happy New Year!
Welcome to all you new people. Glad to welcome you to this group!
What's your start weight? 355 lbs (May 2007)
What's your current weight? 280 lbs (Jan 1, 2009)
What's your Jan 1st 2010 goal weight? 185 lbs
After having been ill during October/November, and having my gall bladder taken out in December, i totally let loose on the food-front. I had to deny myself so many things during my illness, and with the Holiday season in full swing after my recovery...well, there was just no stopping me. I gained a whopping 15 lbs in 3 weeks from not stopping when i am full and eating everything in copious amounts.
From today i am taking control of my eating habits, and hopefully by the end of this month it will be second nature to turn down goodies and stay with the besties!
Happy new year everyone!

Soooooo- 40 pounds to go until goal. I'm preparing myself for the final stretch in 2009. I'm hoping to reach goal by May, but I understand that the last pounds can take forever to come off!! I pigged out over Christmas and gained 2 pounds, which have now come off again.
Welcome to all the new people, this site and group are fantastic and great inspiration! Good luck in 2009!! :o)
Happy New Year!!!

I'm so ready to get started losing weight again (December I have been off the wagon!).
Welcome welcome new and returning members!
Im looking forward to redo-ing the OP post with our many (most!) returning members and our new (who wont be new for long) members listed!
My sis has been keeping me very busy although just here the Sunday. Shes weight conscious so very easy to eat with her. Hope you guys are off to a good start this month and again. So wanting to touch base with folks but literally jumping online, reading quickly (*wink*) and running off again - she's 20 years on my and double my energy LOL!
Hope to touch base late (late late) tonight. Again welcome and looking forward to losing those pounds together.
Welcome to all the new people in the group!
Welcome to all new people, this is so exciting, I joined last July and found this thread to be wonderful, full of help and good friends. Sun/Jayne works so hard for all of us.
This site is much better than WW, its free!!! As us in the 300+ club know how long our journey is, you need to be a millionaire to afford these diet clubs. I joined too because no-one with 20lbs to lose can know our problems, we are all here to help and support each other.
This year is our year, the time to put US first and not the rest of the family.
Happy new year to all.
