Hi, I would like to join this group too.  I joined CC back in March 2008 when I weighed 295 pounds.  I know I got over 300 at some time, but I refused to get back on the scales for over a month.  I managed to lose down to 280, but then stopped.  Then, on October 13, 2008, something snapped in me.  I was back to around 290 and I just had had it.  I decided this was it and I was going to lose weight and put me first for once in my life.  I so agree with the other Gracie about Weight Watchers and other diet groups.  It's hard to go there when someone only needs to lose 10 pounds and you are looking at 100.  Not that I am belittling their need to lose, it's just I don't relate.

I had gotten down to 268 by the middle of December, but over New Years managed to put back on 4 pounds, so I am currently at 272.  Undecided My goal weight is 175, but right now I'll be glad to be under 250.  Baby steps.

Gracie

Me again!  :)

SW: 317 (2008)

Jan 1: 311

Jan 3: 310 (Saturday is my official weigh-in day)

My story:  Long story short, I've been overweight since I was 5 years old.  I developed Hashimoto Thyroiditis after I had my son in 2004, which caused me to gain weight (240 to 317).  I joined CC+ last January 2008.  I've been taking Synthroid for several years and dieted/exercised for a year, but the weight has been very slow to come off.  I am currently in the pre-operative approval stage for gastric bypass surgery.  Deciding to have surgery was not easy, but I feel my health is more important than the stigma associated with getting the surgery.  :)  Happy New Year everyone and good luck!

Please everyone make sure I didnt forget to include you on the initial thread and that I posted your info correctly!

With that posted, we are officially off and running although open to new members too. How happy am I to see the crowd returning for another great kick arse, lose more weight year? Very Very! Glad to have additional members - no looking back, we got your info now LOL!

Thanks to all who shared there story, new and old so we can know each other that much better! My mini-bio: Thin kid, started struggling with a bit of weight in teens but not badly, got up to 300 in 2000 when I quit smoking and gained so much weight I could barely walk.

March 2008, checked into bypass and weighed in at 465 lbs. Declined by insurance.  Diet started June 2008 and have been fortunate since to drop much of it.  This all due intervention of my angel friend Alice (story in profile) followed by South Beach diet (worked with my insulin resistance) and the support of CC members.

Again, I do my best but mistakes pop up so please keep an eye on the OP that info is updated correctly, yours plus an error of anyone else you if you notice it. Especially dont want to have missed listing anyone. Best to PM me since I check my mailbox first everytime I sign into CC but you could post on the thread as well.

Love our group and knowing we will do great things for 2009 Laughing

Hey Sun!  Thanks so much for getting all this going, I think its going to be a great support group.  Looks like you missed adding both of us Gracie's to the list.

Thanks

Hi everyone I know and welcome all new people!

SW: 367 lbs

CW: about 299 lbs

Very excited about what this new year will bring.  I'm disappointed in my past month or so and have had a lot of fluctuations in motivation to eat right and exercise.  For those of you who've heard about it, my daughter is currently in route to SD to live.  So, I'll have more time to exercise, but it's more than depressing to think about which has lead to a very strong indifference to all things weight related.  Even as I write this, I think, well, I'll start fresh on Monday.  I think it's easier when I'm working during the day.  But, I know that in a year, I can look and feel way different than I do right now.  So, I'll get there.

Great thing is that I'm fitting into almost all of my size 24s lately.  Bad thing is that I apparently don't have any clothes smaller than that.  I was so excited to have clothes fit again, I really don't want to have to resort to the really big waistband held up by a belt again.  But, 'cest la vie.

This site and especially this group are amazing.  Knowing others that need to lose at least 100 lbs really has helped to stay motivated and commiserate on topics other people (like those who only need to lose 10 lbs) just haven't gotten.  Which reminds me, I'm almost out of the stupid seatbelt extender on the plane!!  I think I only need like 1.5 inches to make that thing fit.  Was super excited about that when I was flying.

Ok, looking forward to seeing all that we can do this next year!

started at 320 lbs, jan 1st weight is 226.

We are all really off to a good start!

shnitzel - I have hypothyroidism and know how you feel, my weight loss is slow because of it.  It is a pain to deal with the slow weight loss but Slow and Steady Wins the Race!

Liza,  although I never fly,  so I don't have the issue of a seat belt extender,  I can relate in another way.  When I go out,  I wear an oxygen canister on a belt,  but right now I have to use two belts connected.  I am so looking forward to the day that I can use just one belt.  I have about 4 or 5 inches to go to make that happen.

Hi, I'm Maddie. I don't know if I am doing this right, but here goes. I am starting this from the highest weight I have ever been! I am shocked and scared that my starting weight is 318. This sight says I should weigh 130 which would be having to lose 188 pounds. I need serious help, and I haven't ever considered weight loss surgery an option.

SW: 318:
Jan 1st Weight: 318

I have basically had a weight problem all of my life. Up until I was in 3rd grade I was skin and bones. Something happened in the summer between 3rd and 4th grade...I was molested by an old man who ran a candy store in my small town. I have eaten my way through life ever since. I wasn't that heavy in high school, but for some reason everyone made me think I was. I look at my pictures now and I was fairly thin.

If I had ever kept off all the weight I have ever lost I would weigh minus. There have been times I have lost 100 pounds and just as soon gained them back. Now, I have gained more than I ever thought possible. I am a teacher and everyday I have to walk up a flight of stairs. I start back to school on Monday and almost worry about how I am going to make it up those stairs?

I am so encouraged by the weight loss I see in this thread alone. It is kind of like a catch 22 for me. I would love to walk, but my knees hurt so bad i can't really get any sort of exercise which I NEED to lose. I hope your encouragement will help be to start!!

Hi I too had a knee problem, even now can get up and down stairs easily. I started in July 08 at 355 and today 284 so I can tell you it is better on the knees, small steps, make big progress. Good luck, he are all here to help.

Hi Maddie!  Welcome to our group!  We are so glad to have you.  We will help you,  support you,  and encourage you along your road to healthy living and weight loss.  Best wishes to you!

Maddie, older members here know but I was walking with a crutch and now walk freely. I still have arthritis of the knees but my calve muscles are so much stronger that they take the pressure off them and carrying less weight as Wobbley mentioned eases the knee pressure as well.

Pam, Im flying to Alabama February and hoping I finally wont have to worry about invading my fellow passenger like I did this past summer. That was 50 lbs ago and half my butt was pressed up against the window wall of the plane to keep the other half of butt off the seat next to me.

Dalma, Ive seen you elsewhere in forums and glad youve joined us! Liza, sounds like time to start eyeing those sale racks for those below size 24 items :D.

Gracie and Gracie - Im thinking Gracielou and GracieK would work. Thanks Gracielou for the heads up and got the OP corrected.

I had my luckiest month this past December so I may be struggling a bit in January with a plateau but going in full force.

Thinking those who gained December have a nice rebound opportunity.  Going from higher calories and gaining to restricition opens an opportunity for stronger than normal weight loss - kind of like that first week or two when we start a diet.  Hoping you guys stay strong to make the most of it.

Counting down to Feb 1st (well, Feb 6th - my trip date but close enough :D).

On another site,  I am doing a NEW YOU Bootcamp through the month of January,  and I just did the DAY 1 video which was kickboxing and I made it through 4 minutes of the 10 minute video. YAY!  My goal for the end of January is to be able to make it through an entire 10 minute cardio video.

Thats great Pam - keep us posted through the month.  Definitely something to work towards.

Im HAPPY to report great news from our 2008 thread:

  1. We lost 993.9 lbs and thats allowing for the newer members who didnt start their diet until mid year!
  2. Every 2008 300+ club member has returned to continue their success here on this thread.

These are not just hopes of losing weight - this is commitment and determination.  Results WILL follow and couldnt be happier for us - old plus new who'll also find success with their weightloss.

Wow, well done to everyone who participated last year! That's so inspiring, it fills me with hope for what we can all do this year. :)

Wow, almost 1000 lbs!  I like to think in terms of people...which is 5 200 lb people, over 6 150 lb people, or over 8 120 lb people!  How crazy is that!

Pam, the next flight I know I have is in October (for a wedding...will need to get a dress too!) and I know that by then, I will have certainly lost the inches and not need the extender.  Some of the smaller planes in the past have actually given me bruises on the hips to make myself fit in the seat.  I bruise easily, but still, I feel sad for the old sized me.  And grats on the 4 minutes!!  I'm sure that you'll be able to do all 10 by the end of the month.  Love goals like that!

Maddie, I find that having this and another group helps to keep me focused.  I know that I have to check back in, even after I've been really bad about the food.  But, hearing how they're doing and knowing I can get back to my good habits makes it happen.

Sun, the one good thing about the clothes...my birthday is in March, which is just about the time that I'll start to need new summer clothes (at least here in FL).  So, I'll probably be asking for gift cards or something similar.

WOW!!!!  I am so proud to have been part of that number!!!!!!  And I am so proud of all of you!!!!!!

Liza,  I know what you mean about fitting into the seats.  There is a summer reportory (sp?) theater near us,  and we try to catch a couple plays every year.  My favorite seats that I almost always get are on the front row.  They are smaller than the seats back in the back,  because the back ones were added after the front ones.  My favorite seats are uncomfortable as I have to really squeeze to get into them.  So my goal for this summer will be to be able to sit comfortably into those seats.

Pam I understand being able to only get through 4min for your 10min workout.  The other day I tried out my new Low Impact Step Aerobics tape with my 4in step.  Oh heavens! I thought I was in hell.

I have not any thing close to any sort of work out in a long time unless you consider washing dishes or folding laundry a work out. I got through 10 min of the 30min video. An I only got through 10 min with pushing myself until I was out of breath. So I am going to be slowly working myself upto the full 30 min. But I figure baby steps are better then no steps at all.

Keep working at it, I know you will get there!
