Reason: Updated stats
I just wanted to take a moment to before I go to bed to welcome all you new ones that have come recently. There are several. You all have been busy today. Lorraine, I hadn't talked to you yet. I welcome you and am glad that you have chosen to join our little group here. This is a great group of supporters. I started early on when this group started, then took a leave of absence, and when I came back they welcomed me back with open arms. What a great bunch! I thank God for them. Norma Jean, I know the kind of things that you are going through and I would encourage you not to beat yourself up over the fact that you gained a bunch instead of lost, because like the others said, what is done is done, and I might add, that the only thing you get from kicking yourself is a bunch of bruises. So, rest in the Lord, ask Him for His help, which I know you probably already have, accept our support, read what you need to do to make the changes that the Lord leads you to make, and brush yourself off and get back on the wagon. Let's ride it together. When we get better, we will help push it too! LOL.
All of you are inspirations to me and I thank you for giving of yourself to each other.
Hi there - thanks to those who are managing this thread - it's such a great idea. My stats are:
SW: 341 (didn't find CC till I hit 330)
Jan 1: 280
I've always struggled with my weight but have never been over 300 till the last couple of years. I'm 48 and determined to get myself healthy now. I've started exercising and cooking real food from scratch and have been really pleased that the weight is coming off and it doesn't feel too miserable! CC has been a real blessing to me and it's inspiring to read the stories of people who are ahead of me on the curve.
MC
Hi Sun, this is Tubzuks and notice my name is not on the list. Please include me as well.
Haven't weighed in since a week ago so I will give my SW as 311 lbs.
Hopping to have better determination and weight loss this year and I wish the same for everyone else.
Morning everyone!
Should be on my way to work, but just wanted to post in my excitement. I got on the scale this morning for what I'll call a test run, and I was exactly 299.0 lbs! So, my estimate wasn't too far off. That's only after 2 good days of eating, so I'm hoping my Sat weigh in will be good for me. I think my goal for this month is so that I never see the 3 in front again.
I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I was a part of this group last year, but I didn't keep up with the message board as much as I would have liked. So I have made that a goal this year. :)
This morning I weighed in at my lowest weight so far - 264.2! If it finally sticks (or goes much lower!), I have now officially lost 60 lbs in almost one year. I never thought I could do this without extreme measures, but counting calories and exercise is 100% effective if you just work hard at it. I will be the first to admit, I slacked off toward the end of the year (mainly once the winter weather started to set it). But with the new year comes new beginnings and I'm ready to start kicking myself in the butt again. :)
I lowered my calories at the beginning of the year and I'm still trying to get use to it. I wake up feeling like I haven't eaten in days, but I don't go to bed hungry. So I assume that is a good thing. Hopefully this 260's plateau will be broken by my one year anniversary (January 20-ish).
Happy Wednesday everyone!
NJ, I just read your post and it really touched me. Everyone had very good advice for you. And you should be very proud of yourself for writing instead of eating. What a great step!
I am still fairly new at this (not losing weight, I've done that my whole life, but at losing weight the right way), but I can tell you that it has helped me to look at my weight loss in 10-pound increments. I get excited when I reach a new "10's". It may sound silly, but if I looked at the overall picture I would just be overwhelmed and want to quit. Baby steps are what work for me.
Topeze, congratulations! I hope you never see a 3 in front again either. Good luck, you can do it!
Gracie
Topeze and punkrockriot, how great that you are already seeing success this year!
I was successful yesterday at lowering my calories! I ate only 1500 calories and burned 2500, so I met my 1000-calorie deficit goal without going for a hike or working out at the gym. I did walk the dog slowly around the block, but I intentionally took it easy to let my foot heal. I want it to be all better by Saturday so I can go for a hike. This morning it still feels a little sore.
I don't think I have managed to eat less than 1800 calories in a day since I started this thing! In fact, most of my weight was lost eating about 2250/day. I am just used to eating more, but as I continue to lose I need to get used to eating less.
I am also trying to stay off the scale until Feb 1. As long as I am logging my food and using my bodybugg I basically know how I am doing and I need to not let the fluctuations get me down.
Goal for today is to eat 1500 calories again and go for a slow walk again, and maybe get to the gym tonight for some stationary bike work (so might eat another 200 or so if I do a whole hour on the bike).
Have a great day everyone!

I've been on a diet since I was 8. I have several medical conditions that make it worse, but by no means are they responsible for me being more then 300lbs. I'm an emotional eater and love making bad choices. I work in the food court of a mall and its so easy for me to walk over to mc d's or taco bell and get some horrible meal.
I have a wedding in june and vacation in September that i'm not going to be this fat on either of those days.
I have a mildly unrealistic goal for the sept vaca because I'm going to be wearing a bathing suit but I figure anything less then this is a huge improvement.
Hi mcdh1 and pamm, glad you found us and you are 'on the list' ;D I should be so disciplined mcdh to cook as you, what control you have over what your eating when picking the ingredients. Pamm - food court? That sounds tough! Awesome that you have upcoming goal dates to work towards.
Yay Topeze! Dont you love having these extra days til Saturday - more time to reinforce that no more 3s. Im doing the same = hit another 2-teen so thinking no more 220 anything again please!
tubzuks, reading your post made me realize to modify the OP. What Im needing for SW is your initial highest weight and than a Jan 1st weight. Let me know if I should list 311 for both and if not how I should list them.
What a year, punk! Looking forward to hearing from you here and knowing youve til month end to possibly cross to 250s. Graciek, I also do the crossing "10s" - guess its seeing that new middle number pop up thats so rewarding to me.
Denise, wishes to your holding out to Feb 1 with the scale. I used to have to weigh at a clinic and started every two weeks so it was no biggie. Soon as I got a scale, I was on it each time I passed it in the day LOL!
Took my photo today - should get them by email soon. Doing a Jan 2008 Jan 2009 update. Have to fast tonight but luckily not until 9pm although I do stay up very late but knowing tomorrow possible bloodwork makes this not optional. Also have a clear diet fast a day next week prepping for a colonoscopy - my first. Nothing to look forward to - well, it being finished I guess LOL
You all are sounding very positive regarding your weight management journey., I am proud of each of you. I apparently did something wrong last night, because my blood sugar was 159 this morning. This was the first morning since the 4th that it was over 120. I think I know why. I was reading my program book to review and they recommend that you have a handful of mixed nuts each day at least once a day, but you could have it more, just need to include that in your calories. A handful is with your palm closed around your handful of mixed nuts. Well, I had quite a few more than that last night. They were so good that I just didn't want to stop. But it's ok because it taught me something. I can have a small amount, but for my health sake I should only have the one serving at a time. So today is a new day and I am eating great today. I had my one handful of nuts for breakfast, with an apple. For lunch I have 3 ounces of chicken breast, some mushrooms, and some baby carrots. So, I am back with it and doing fine.
BTW
We are 39 members strong, now with one more new member than we have returning members. Course now we're all equal members starting fresh for 2009 but just happy to have so many more committed to rock this year!
Pam - I find nuts a serious willpower test so buy them in small increment servings but also that they stay with me if a buy a small bag running around through stores. Sounds like a great start for today!
Graciek - I also focus on weights by the 10s. Something about seeing that new middle number drop, putting my mind in a new range of numbers to conquer.
Welcome to all the new members, there seems to be more every day.
I am so pleased of everyones current successes, I thought I should pass on a tip I have found. If you want to get your calorie count LOW I use quorn in place of meat, their sausages are only 58 calories each!! They taste good with a tin of tomatoes simmered with onions and celery (chopped) and a big plate of green veggies.
Looking forward to Feb 1st to see the first report of 2009.
Good luck everyone.
Hey everyone !!
Just wanted to stop in and say Hello, as my first day back at school tomorrow will be a very long day, i wont get a chance to stop by.
Im so proud of everyone here in the group, those of us who are returning and those who are new !!! There are so many new ppl its so great !! I hope to see all of us still here in Jan 2010, but much less of us !! ( lol that was such a bad joke)
For those of you wondering, I didnt get the treamill, they ofcourse had a sale only on models that didnt have an incline feature. So i figure that without the incline there was not much point, as there is an indoor track at my university that we have access too. I will be going to find out the schedule tomorrow for the track and for some fitness classes etc.
I did some at home weights yesterday, and im so sore today but im down about 2lbs from the begining of the month, Im not too excited yet since I know that i was so bloated at the begining of the month that it really wasnt a true reading.
Many times I have reread old posts in this thread, when I have been feeling discouraged. The ppl here are an amazing source of inspiration, and im so excited about getting to know the newest members of the thread !!
Take care all ~K
I too like to reward myself with every 10lbs milestone. For every 10lbs I lose (and manage to keep off), I put $10 in my savings account. It isn't much, but I know once I hit my first big goal of 100 lbs lost, I will have an extra $100 to spend on new clothes. :)
I do other non-food rewards at each 10lbs mark as well...new book, DVD, CD, hair cuts, new article of clothing that isn't on sale/clearance, etc. It makes it a little more fun.
Hey everyone! Well, I guess (once again) you can consider me a new member. I originally joined CC in 2007, and it was the first time I was ever successful at losing weight. My weight was originally 335, and I had managed to work myself down to the low 280s.
I've learned a few things since then. Mainly I've discovered that I'm SUCH an emotional eater. Wedding planning, sickness in the family, REALLY tough school year (as a teacher, of course), and buying a new home... they took their toll on me. I dealt with most of my frustrations with way too many, "I deserve a treat" moments. Frankly, as much as I wanted to LOSE weight for my wedding, I ended up gaining it. I suppose that learning to cope with that stress is going to have to be one of my goals now that I'm starting over.
I guess the good news is that I didn't gain ALL of it back. There's a whole 3 pounds there that I managed to keep off. So here goes. My latest stats...

JAYNE
All I can say is WOW!!!!!
What a transfermation!!!!
What an inspiration!!!!!!
Denna
Holy crap Jayne!!!
You look so great!
Jayne! You look amazing! What a transformation. All your hard work shows. You have showed me it can be done! 10 pounds at a time.
If you think that 10 pounds is too much to bite off for a mini goal, then try celebrating 5 pounds. Then later you can change it to 10 pound celebrations. I know that it may sound silly celebrating 5 little pounds, but it is a start to losing the big numbers.
Denna
Thanks Denna - 6 pounds is a good thought. A ream of copy paper, bag of flour or sugar - helps the visualisation of even 5 pounds when you pick them up. Norma Jean
