Yay! Glad you are joining us moogiesue!
Welcome Moogiesue, good luck, glad you found the thread and
SUN: FANTANTIC, WOW, LESS THAN HALF THE ORIGINAL YOU!I am sure you are very proud of yourself and we all at CC think your marvelous and a real inspiration, not to mention a beauty. At this pace you will disappear soon, (joke). Thanks for giving us newer members hope for the future.
Thank you guys for your kind words and Denise, your 'holy crap' cracked me up! Wobbley, you are so sweet and no joke from me - there are some choice spots Im ready to dissappear but thankful for the ones that have.
Welcome moogie - true dont toss that scale but on a stubborn week, feel free to give a kick, well a soft one. I find the weight chart at CC lets me 'see' my progress - if you havent yet, you may want to check it out.
I agree Denna about minigoals - they build up to 10 lbs goals and yes NJ, a bag of flour of my thigh or gut puts it in perspective. Imagining gaining 2 bags of sugar on our bodies even makes it more clear to me. Instead, its gone.
Weekly weighin this morn at 216.8. Looking forward to the doctor in an hour because leaving means getting to eat. I may not even get more blood work but was told to fast as a precaution. Definitely getting my prev one back and my higher than average egg consumption doesnt have me at too high cholesterol. Ive always had low and know that it can depend on the person.
edited for weight correction - thanks graciek!
I dont watch Oprah but saw a recent quote of hers I liked:
I am so grateful for everything. My bones for carrying me. My heart for beating. My lungs for pumping air. You need to love yourself enough to know that you being healthy IS worth it.
Sun/Jayne, your pictures are awesome! Very inspiring and you look GREAT.
However, I noticed something in your post this morning. You either gained 100 pounds in 8 days, or there is a typo on your weekly weigh in! In the future, if you are going to make a typo, I would recommend doing it downward instead of upward. ![]()
Gracie
I would like to join this group. My starting weight in Dec of 08 was 304. Jan 1st of 2009 I was 297.5 and my current weight is 292. My goal is 148 and I would like to lose between 75 and 80 pounds this year.
Good morning all!
My deficit yesterday was 932.. not too bad. I went a little over my calories but still less than 1600 so pretty much on target.
Again only took a slow 1-mile walk. My foot feels better today, so I just went for my walk this morning and am going to try to keep it up twice a day. It is such a painless and enjoyable way to burn a few hundred extra calories and practice my hiking muscles too.
I bought new shoes last night and will try the elliptical at the gym again tonight. I am striving for resistance training 3x/week but I have vertigo right now - have since October - and can't do the core stuff that requires lying on my back, like crunches. I also have shoulder pain and can't seem to do ANY arm stuff. So it is squats and lunges for me, for now anyway. I will give it until Feb 1 and then gradually add the upper body work back in. Maybe swimming would help?
I am still fighting this cold and am now into the coughing stage, but I did not have any trouble breathing on my walk, even up the hills, so I guess it is okay to exercise. I don't think I can eat less than 1500 without feeling the effects pretty bad, so I need to at least be able to get a walk in so that I can keep losing weight.. goal is 225 by mid-August for my backpacking trip!
Have a good day everyone!
Denise, a sore foot, vertigo and a cold, and you're still exercising! That is dedication. You should be so proud of yourself. Way to go!
Again that 100 lbs slipped on, thanks graciek. I wonder if thats related to the syndrome of continuing to write 2008 on everything. I couldnt round down - it will strange enough when I actually get to put a 1 in front of my weight but in a good way of course.
wishiwasskinny - youre one of us now :D. Thanks for joining!
Denise, sounds like your working that calorie deficit well! Thinking it must be an adjustment but cant wait to see how it pays off for you month end. Your one determined exerciser - it so easy to have excuses. You have reasons though and find ways around them. Your plan sounds great to allow your body to adjust through the soreness gradually but still get in that calorie burn. Inspiring determination! See your keeping your eye on the goal and looking forward to you making that hike!
Jayne, sorry for being a smarty pants, but I couldn't resist. Wasn't that the easiest 100 pounds you ever lost though? lol Hope everything went well for you at the doctor.
I wish I could borrow a little of Denise's determination. Wow!
Gracie
Sun, agreeing with everyone else, your pictures are so inspiring. Congratulations!
This week has been a bit up and down, I've been munching more than necessary out of plain boredom and I had a couple of drinks at a friend's birthday night out. Need to get a bit more serious about watching the calories! I start university again next week, that will keep me occupied and will also mean I'll be doing a lot more walking so hopefully next week will be a better one. Hope everyone is having a great week, keep up the good work! x
Well, I am glad to say that I am doing better with my eating today. Maybe that is because I finished off my mixed nuts for breakfast and don't have any more in the house. I had a half cup of those, which is just 2 servings, so that's not too bad. And I had an apple. Then for morning break I had 6 ouces of Lite Yogurt with 2 tablespoons of wheat germ. Then for a second snack while I am waiting for my Tilapia to thaw out, I had a half cup of fat free cottage cheese. So I am pleased with my food intake today so far. Then later, I will have 6 ounces of baked Tilapia with a roasted yellow squash with maybe some roasted green peppers and onions. So if I stick to that, I will have had a great eating day!
I wish all the best to the rest of you!
Thanks guys, now I am a little embarassed, I have been told I have something of a hiking obsession, which I guess showed in that post! ![]()
My problem is that I use exercise as an excuse to eat too much. What I need to work on this year is keeping the intake calories down while also getting more protein. Maybe I should take a lesson from humorpam, who seems to have the healthy eating down!
I missed out on this group last year - never noticed it! I'd love to join now though.
- I was over 300 lbs for much of my twenties and all of my thirties.
- My highest weight was around 340.
- My Jan 1 2009 weight was 248.
- My story? To be brief...I have lost and found a LOT of weight in my lifetime. This time I won't find it again. I can't describe what happened except to say that something really clicked, nearly a year ago now...and I have been on the right path ever since. I think my biggest achievement last year ( and this year so far) is biking to work. I have never been a sporty or fit person, ever, so have been very proud of myself for keeping this up, even in bad weather, even when I don't feel like it. Here's hoping this year will be as successful as last year, and that we can all keep up our weight-loss momentum!
Hiya,
I have been around on and off for about 3 yrs. My highest weight was in July, 345. I had developed severe sleep apnea and have started sleeping with a cpap machine. I am 50 have battled weight all my life. Anyway in August my sleep dr. told me he wanted me to seriously consider surgery. I asked him to give me a year to show him I could make a significant difference. Around Thanksgiving I was down to 298 however I have not done well through the holidays. Monday when school started back, I teach, I started a walking regime and back on CC. I didn't want to depress myself so I am not weighing until 1/15. I will post my weight then. I have lost and gained 100 lbs several times in my life and I have decided if I can't do it this time I am going to have the surgery, however, I plan to do it. My Dr. wasn't overly optimistic and I view that as a challenge. Sooooooo here we go. I saw a commercial the other day advertising some weight loss thing but something was said I do want to do. I think it is Valerie Berttinelli she says, another New Year's and I don't have to make a resolution to lose weight How wonderful, how cool. I hope one day to only have to resolve to stay healthy but that my weight will be good. So good luck to you all!!!!
Victoria - that is impressive biking to work (and bad weather too!). That determination makes me understand your progress. So glad to have you with us and yes, 2009 will be a driven years of achieving our goals!
Denise, that activity drive is so great because when we hit maintenance and not having to diet but watch our eating, how helpful that activity drive will be to leave the pounds behind.
dreamer, betting that walking WILL pay off. December was my best month, way above average and I credit it with leaving the house during the holidays and finding excuses to roam stores and go places. Thats what I love about updating monthly - no weekend or off day can mess up a month of progress.
Ugh - they didnt include cholesterol screening which was my main concern so new blood taken again although the rest of my testing checked out fine. Funny thing - new doctor saw first time month ago. Since then, had my really strong loss December and he not only commended me but asked me how I was doing it because he was needing to drop some lbs. I thought he was joking but he was serious. Told him thats not norm monthly loss for me (usually shoot for 10-12) but said just I'd proactively kept busy moving. Now when I follow up in a month with normal loss, he doesnt think Im slacking.
Hey everyone!
My name is Jerry and I'm a 25 year old man, 6'1. I weighed 375 in June 2008 and got down to 317 by September on the Atkins. I went off and gained back...
SW: 375 lbs.   ; &n bsp; CW: 354 lbs. (at Jan 1. 2009)
My story... I've always been the fattest kid at school and weighed 163 at age 11, which was more than my teacher! I weighed 297 lbs by my freshman year of highschool. I then lost 90 lbs on Atkins the summer after freshman year (summer 1998). Life seemed to begin after that, I made friends with everyone, even popular kids! I started going out on weekends instead of watching Unsolved Mysteries with my parents! LOL I've been a changed person ever since and have always had friends... I'm so thankful I lost the weight then. But, as you can already tell the weight has come back over the last decade and I'm worse off than I have ever been. It's out of control and dangerously high. I'm currently a Med student and I HAVE to lose this weight to even be considered a serious physician. I've just seen some pictures of myself from years ago and then recent ones... DEPRESSING! My friends look at me different now and women don't look at me... A close friend whom I haven't seen in 2 years came into town for a visit over New Years and asked what happened and why I was the biggest she had ever seen. That really let me know how bad this thing is...
Anyhoo, I would love to join this group and we can all get our lives back piece by piece together!
Thanks for reading,
Jerry
YAYAYAYA Vic .. finally decided to join !!! that makes me happy =) Now I have almost all my real sources of inspiration in this thread !!
Sun ... You are one HOT MAMMA !!!! The change in your pics is unbelieveable, what a inspiration!! I have said it a million times, and ill say it again, thanks so much for keeping this group going, and inspiring us all with your sucess.
I havent had much time today to read much of the new posts, as I started a new semester today, I fit in all the seats ( thank god) got a good deal on some books ( 2nd hand) and hopefully will be able to locate some more without paying full price.
Went to the gym part of the university, and got all the brochures for the stuff i can get for free, I also see that they have presonal training for 25/hour for students, I might try a session or 2. We will see.
Today is our anniversary .. 3 years, Anthony brought home 3 roses last night .. one for each year ... I think Ill keep him ? hhaha
Oh and the GREAT News !! 292.0 !!! this mornings number, thats down almost 5lbs from last week !! yay ! I know its just water, but it makes me feel good and thats what counts !
Hope all is well !!
~K
