Happy, Happy Wobbley - do I smell cake? Enjoy your first 'legal' drink :P.
Hey sarahbell, youre part of us now~ Ive tried dieting before but it had been many (MANY) years since starting in 2007 and I felt similar taking the plunge as it being new to me again. This really will be a moving year although your already started before you got here.
Bryan, thanks for letting us know about your gym venture. That first step can be a big one and you did it. I can imagine it all and thinking how great when you start building up your endurance but you did the hardest part - going!
Lunch was awesome - an absolutely horrible menu to choose from. Mexican and I picked beef tongue (hearing the "Ewws"). I'd called in advance and learned it was boiled, than grilled with butter. Luckily Im just used to it boiled so was able to order it that way. Tongue does tend to be higher on fat but its one day with leftover dinner.
Today was weigh in day and I've lost 9 pounds since Jan. 1st. and some of it was what I had gained with the holidays. Today I finally kept my promise to myself that I would start working out in a gym. I've wanted to do this ever since I broke the 3-0-0. A friend went with me and we had a good time. It was all so new to me. I had no clue on how anything worked, but in no time at all I was on a treadmill and worked out on a bike. I know this is really going to help me in losing. SW 370 CW 284
Happy Friday everyone! I am so glad it is the weekend.
Happy birthday Wobbly! Oh to be 21 again. And again, and again, ![]()
Korali, hope you have a great anniversary dinner with your guy. He really does sound like a keeper.
This is really getting to be a big group. How great! Thanks Sun/Jayne for keeping track of everything.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. Try to do at least one thing just for you.
Sun, please change my pounds lost to 26 instead of just 6. I worked too hard for those. I'm working really good on the new month total, because so far this month I have lost an additional 8 pounds.
Happy Birthday, Christine. ![]()
Hey All! Been exercising everyday and around 1800 calories, I'm down 8 pounds since Jan. 1!
Happy Birthday Wobbley! Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Korali, Unsolved Mysteries does totally rock LOL! But only with Robert Stack, not so much the new ones...
Pam, Great job on the loss of poundage! I'm impressed with your meal plans too.
Norma Jean, Thank you so much for your kind words, you really made my day! I'm a huge marilyn monroe fan believe it or not. That rocks!
I read through all of the previous posts last night, and it's so exciting to have support from such beautiful and caring people. The great thing is that we are all part of the 300+ club for a reason, and we all have felt very similar about many things I'm sure. I was reading Norma Jean's post and could identify completely. It's important for us all to deal with these feelings. Many of us do indeed feel that we weigh so much so why should we even try? I seems like such a monumental and unattainable task. But you have to think how great you will feel in one year. How much more active will you be and how much lighter? Then think about one month from now... how about next week, how about tomorrow? Each day we will all feel a little better because we did something towards health, just for ourselves. It's hard for some of us to look in the mirror some times, especially naked LOL. But with each day each of us must tell ourselves and BELIEVE that you are a worthwhile, deserving, beautiful person. We are made to feel all too much like we are lesser or unworthy human beings because of our weight... well that simply isn't true. Not one bit. And with each day we do well, and do one more thing to help ourselves... we get healthier physically and emotionally.
Well, I've rambled way too long... Good luck you beautiful people!
I'm loving that there are so many people in here!
Korali, I hated buying books since they were ridiculously priced! Although, I'd borrow as much as possible. It's much better being able to get it online now.
Pam, grats on your 8 lb loss from the 1st! I'm loving it!
Goingtolookgood, I never used to watch the biggest loser but am now hooked. Anywho, they always say that week 2 is always the absolute hardest on all the contestants. They lose only a tiny bit that week. And if you know it will effect you, can you skip this week's weigh in and wait another week?
Welcome Sarah!
Bryan, anything you do at the gym counts and matters! When I had membership, I know I used to feel very uncomfortable. And that was when I was in fact smaller. But that passed quickly enough. I'm all about zoning out to watch tv, read, listen to my music, whatever. Just remember, though, not every week is going to be a huge loss. We fluctuate constantly, so sometimes losses aren't reflected. And besides, anything that goes down is good. Some weeks I've pushed myself and lost nothing. But it shows up eventually. And, if you do work out, you'll have some muscle gain especially right in the beginning that may make it seem like you didn't lose. But you lost fat and gained muscle. Now I'll just have to find the link of the 1 lb of fat compared to 5 lb of muscle pic.
Wobbly, Happy Birthday! That puts me a few years above you!
Mnic, grats on your 9 lbs! And omg, you're only 14 lbs away from 100!
Jerry, grats on your 8 lbs! Although, I wasn't sure if you were burning 1800 cals or eating that much. I'm going to guess eating, cause that'd be a hugeburn. If that's the case, you are not eating nearly enough. While it's going to show really good loss at the beginning, in the long run, it will stall your weight loss and be really hard to drop it again. I pulled it up to see that you burn 3600 cals doing absolutely nothing. So add in your exercise, and you're completely underfeeding yourself. The deficit should only be about 1000 cals. I know that I go over and under depending on the day, but it's somewhere in that range. Try not to go too much over that. I know when I don't eat as much, I feel famished soon after those days and wind up munching on stuff I don't need at all. (Speaking of which, I can't wait til I finish those cashews!!!).
But, I loved your comments about how we view ourselves. It's absolutely true that we feel unworthy at times because of our weight. I know there are times that I have. Watching the biggest loser the other night, I was (pathetic, I know) crying at how they all felt, because I related too much to some of them. And while I felt for them, a much larger part of me was upset at thinking about how I felt and looked at my highest. I've always been surprisingly confident despite my weight, but it hits me now and then how sad it was to be like that. Not to mention the concerns for what it was doing to my body.
Oh, and you know what I'm looking forward to when I'm slim (I really don't think "skinny" will ever work for me), being able to fit all the clothes I want to bring in my luggage without a problem.
OoOps - got that corrected Pam. At least Im not projecting my own 100 lb errors on others. And 8 lbs - awesome girl! You to Jerry - way to kick off January! You make a good point to - I had years of feeling why try? We here know why and after the year zooms by will experience why. Just stopping the out of control eating in itself is a relief for me too.
I like that idea gracie but Im a bit spoiled - Im thinking at least 3 things for me :D.
I'll be tossing our first names on the list behind the screennames.
LET ME KNOW
If your first name isnt listed and you want it to be
If you want yours removed
Of course, if I got any names wrong

What a beautiful post! All of it, but I quoted the above because you are so right about that.
When I started at 343 I really did feel like it was such a huge task that I shouldn't even try. But once I lost 70 lbs, I felt SO much better and there were so many very noticeable changes in my life. I am short, so when I was that big I could barely fit behind the steering wheel in my car. My old pants have a rub mark on them from where it would hit them! I could not count on a car seatbelt fitting me, let alone an airplane. Now all seatbelts fit and there is a good-sized gap between me and my steering wheel. I can fit in the desks at school (thankfully, since I am done with classes I no longer need to!).
I walk easier, breathe easier, no longer snore loudly every night, and just in general feel healthier! So even just losing a little bit will make a difference in your life. It doesn't need to be one gigantic chore of losing 200+ lbs, it is about getting healthier and feeling better, incrementally.
This past year I think I have been so satisfied with my loss that I started to feel "thin" even though I clearly have a lot more to lose. I think that is why I did not stay motivated to lose. Now I am getting optimistic that if the first 70 lbs brought about such great changes, what might the next 70 bring? I am now through with being comfortable at my weight and ready to bring on the next phase!
And with that, off to the gym! And I am setting out for a 14-mile hike at dawn, really! I'll let you all know how it goes...
Jerry, thank you for those inspirational words. That was great! I appreciate you!
Denise, I am really tired just thinking about you taking that 14 mile hike. Don't forget to stay well hydrated. Let us know how it goes.
Some people have wondered what my meal plan was that allowed me to lose 8 pounds so far this month, so I thought that I would share that with you.
I ate every 2 to 3 hours. It is very important to eat this often to keep your metabolism going. You can liken it to a fire in a fireplace. If you put small pieces of wood on the fire every little bit, the fire will burn strongly, but if you only put wood on the fire a couple or three times per day, and you put huge logs on, the fire has a tendency to get snuffed out. It is too much at one time and two long in between adding more. When I ate I always ate a protein along with a good carb. I ate NO processed foods(except the ones listed below). I only ate fruits and veggies for my carbs, but no potatoes. I ate only lean meats (eggs, pork loin, chicken and fish), cottage cheese, string cheese, legumes, and mixed nuts for my proteins. I ate a total of about 1500 calories per day. And I drank at least 8 glasses of water per day. And I reduced my intake of Diet Coke.
That is my plan in a nutshell. Hope that helps somebody.
Happy Birthday Christine!! I hope you had a Great Birthday!
Wow our group has grown so much, how wonderful and everyone seems to be doing well and that is even better.
School is not too stressful yet but I am only going into the second week. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!
I had been asked why I used "tossed" and "throw" in my weigh ins.
Reason: If you use the term "loss/lost", then that means you are trying to find it. Looking to regain what you lost. If I use the term "TOSSED", then that means that I am throwing it away. I am NOT looking to recover it. It is gone forever.
Here are my stats for 01/10/09:
- Age: 39 ~ Female ~ Height: 5' 5"
- Start Date: ................................... 07/1 6/08
- Start Weight: ................................. 336.4 lb
- Goal Weight: .................................. 135.0 lb
- Total Weight Tossed: ....................... 49.0 lb
- Weight left to throw: ...................... 152.4 lb
- Last Weigh In: .......... 01/01/09 ..... 291.4 lb
- Current Weigh In: ..... 01/10/09 ..... 287.4 lb
- Weight tossed since last weigh in: ..... 4.0 lb
- Weight gained since last weigh in: ..... 0.0 lb
Have a Great Weekend! Denna
Jerry, thanks so much for that post. All very true, and some much needed motivation.
I weighed in today and I've lost 6lb since January 1st! I'm really pleased with that start, hopefully I can keep it up.
I hope you're all having a great weekend! Laura x
Ok I read all the posts ... we have so many ppl now I dont know where to start. Im so glad that everyone seems to be doing ok.
We didnt go to the movie, we went only to dinner, I ate so many veggies at the stir fry place, I ate a bunch of noodles too tho, oh well I did good i think. No dessert and only water to drink. Sauce on the side as usual, and I got it SUPER spicy !!!
No dmage this morning .. 289.5 !!! YES ! thats one more down from yesterday, and its TTOTM .. so Im expecting a nice * toss* next week !! Im still not down to my low of 286ish before christmas, so its not real weight loss .. but we will see .. I just need to keep up the good work. Im gonna start using Dennas word and toss lots of weight off !!
I got 11 hours of sleep last night. that doesnt happen often. Just home from grocery shopping, finally convinced Anthony to try cauliflower, so im making it tonight as a stirfry with brocoli, pepers, carrots and bok choy, clove of garlic and some oyster sauce. Anthony wanted a Pork Chop, Im having baked chicken breast. I got a blender for christmas and i made my first *shake* today, 1 banana, 175g plain yogurt, 1 pkt stevia and 2 tbsp natural PB with ice. It was so good, that made 2 servings, even Anthony had some. Yummy !!
Jerry those are very kind words, I know exactly what you mean, Please tho look into consuming more cals, as it seems like Liza checked into for you, that you might need more inorder to stave off plateaus in the future. \
Jayne ... you got my name wrong !!! its not your fault tho, I dont think I ever said what it was. My real name is Laurie.
No gym exercise today. But i did shop for 2 hours ! So i got a bit of walking in.
Hope all is having a good weekend !!
~K
** I forgot to mention, make sure we all add everyone as friends so we can keep up this great support in our journal entries, for those of us who do journal. I know personally that your comments in my journal mean alot to me ... and I look forward to them !
Happy Saturday Everyone! I had a big plan to get out today, go to the gym, get grocery shopping out of the way, and treat myself to some Starbucks (huge coffee fan!). But, I wake up to lots of snow on the ground and more falling from the sky. It hasn't stopped, not even a break. So there goes that idea. Instead, I am spending the afternoon updating my weight loss website (http://howthinfeels.blogspot.com) and reading through all the new posts in here. So many people...so exciting!
I have to say that I am very excited to have a few guys in the group. I think it is a little harder for guys to find this kind of support through friends and family (just from personal observation...). With all the stereotypes set for women to be thin, there are just as many for guys to be in shape/"buff". Having this group allows us to create a weight loss community that most of us could never find in our friends and family. Thanks everyone for being here!
Any one else find the weekends to be "diet" wreckers? It is much harder for me to stay on a steady food plan when I am at home on the weekends. When I am at work, I have all my food with me, so I know everything I'll eat for breakfast, lunch, and at least two snacks. When I'm at home, I get so distracted by stuff that I usually forget the snacks and throw my other meals off track. Plus, I usually don't want to cook as much on the weekend, so I tend to eat out more. That's a big goal for this year...making my weekends just as successful (food intake wise) as my weekdays are.

Jerry congratulations on your weight loss of 8 pounds! Great job.
Over the last few months I have been dealing with "feelings", especially of rejection. I have journaled and talked with my family (husband and son - what a strength they are to me!). It has helped me tremendously. Over the last week I was watching the National Body Challenge on the Discovery Health Channel. The one competitor I could truly relate to. She had such a dislike towards her mother (who is deceased now) because she was overweight when she was growing up. She never wanted to look like her. Boy could I relate and identify with those feelings. Bottom line was getting past the past - plus her Mother was not preventing her from putting the wrong foods in her body nor the lack of exercising. She was an adult. What a transformation in 6 months! It can be done. As each day goes by, I am trying to incorporate just a little more exercise in my life. At this time I am limited but this is only TEMPORARY. I keep telling myself this over and over!
I am believing I am worthwhile, deserving and a beautiful person! Thanks Jerry for reinforcing this statement to all of us.
Norma Jean
punkrockriot - Yes, weekends are always a problem for me as well. I'm usually kept busy during the week with school and everything so I have less time to think about food. At the weekend it's everywhere, there's a fridge full of it and I sometimes find it hard to resist. My sister is beside me right now eating a stuffed crust pizza :( Not that she would give me any anyway, even if I allowed myself a piece!
njakamarilyn - You're right, weight is only temporary. That's a really good way to look at it, and something we all need to keep in mind.
Denise, sounds like you have a great attitude starting out this new year!
Dreamer, grats on the 6 lbs gone!
Punk, I totally agree with you about having the guys in here. Much more life like and they deal with some of the same issues. But, I've always enjoyed the other perspective to help me see things differently. And I find weekends so much harder to do too. I think it's just that I'm not as busy or even if I am, I can still make stops in the kitchen easier.
Korali, wow, awesome on your loss too. You're in the 280s now!
And on that note, I'm looking forward to the 280s too. I weighed in at the same exact weight I was on 12/23, 294.0 lbs. That's my all time low!! So, pretty excited about that and knowing that I'm right behind you on the 280s Korali!!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Hello all, I am feeling very positive about my efforts and this site in general, so glad I found it. This thread particularly is an inspiration.
Punk, thanks for getting in touch Id also be interested in hearing some of your experiences :) also, the polka dot glasses are actually cheaters, I think I got them at JoAnne fabrics maybe, Im really bad about losing/breaking my glasses so I keep a lot of those around too, especaily fun funky ones with crazy stripes and rhinestones and what not. I totally agree about the weekend, its much more challenging at home, then at the office.
Ive survived the first week, and my first eating out experience last night didnt do bad either stayed in my calorie range and didnt feel bad or deprived! A little anxious about tomorrow though. Sunday funday is gonna be a little harder, football, beer, and gernally horrible food, so my favorite day of the week!
