I wanted to know if there are people out there trying to get to 145. I think that might a popular goal. So here I am at about 158 wanting to be about 145. Battling plateaus and sluggish weight loss after losing almost 30lbs. I would like to get to 145 by Spring (March 2007)  That is certainly plenty of time to do this... but the last 10 lbs are always the toughest they say.

Is there anyone else out there wants to join in and keep each other motivated?

I do.  I am 158, started at 162 just over a week ago, have been trying (in theory, not in reality) to lose baby weight for over a year and finally found this site and thought "great, there is a science to it!".  I'd actually love to get down to 130 (I am just 5'4") but 145 is a great intermediate goal.  I have a very scientific mind and when I realized (after reading all the info on this site) that losing weight was just a matter or calories in vs. calories out I was like, wooohoooo!  I did Atkins after my first baby and got down to a real comfortable weight but just couldn't stand to continue to eat that way, so I began to gain it back before getting pregnant the second time.  Anyhow, last week, after carefully tracking calories in (not a lot of time for calories out with full time job many volunteer gigs and two little kids) I got down from 162 to 156.....I know that does not sound healthy and I know I shouldn't say this but I was psyched.  Now, even though I have been keeping calories low (about 1300 per day) and even getting in some exercise (hiking mostly, with a baby on my back) I am gaining!  Each morning I step on the scale and hope for the best, but now I am up to 158.2 again.  Interestingly, the little blue line and the little green line have begun to converge on my graph....does that mean that I just lost water weight last week and my "actual" weight loss was more like what I am seeing now?

I have a hard time remembering to drink water.
Hey Sarah - Welcome.  I'm all in to the science too. I was on Atkins a few years ago. I lost about 20lbs but gained it all back. I couldn't stick with that sort of lifestyle.

Yep there's a lot to be said for counting calories.  I never knew this but your liver picks up the slack for the kidneys. It's your liver that is critical to burn fat. So if your kidneys don't have a good supply of water to filter your system your liver will need to help which takes away from your body's ability to  burn fat.

Your weight will fluctuate from day to day. Some people only weigh once a week. Some weigh themselves every day. Don't be dismayed that you seem to be getting some weight back. I bet you lost a couple of pounds in a week. Don't be afraid to eat either. You don't need to be hungry if you fill up on high fiber food.
I'm actually somewhat 'stuck' at 145lbs, so I'm thinking maybe I should just let my body sit there if it wants to so bad. If I stay 145 for another 6 months, then I'll take that as a hint~*. But yeah, I got here from 155lbs. It really is harder once you get closer to your goal!
Shakti you look awesome in your photos. I bet all that dancing requires muscles so even if you are 145 your look perfect.

I'm kind of thinking that I'm going to hit a little plateau every 2 or 3 lbs on the way down to 145. That's why I set such a long term goal. I can't go back to 1200 calories... I started losing my hair. It's just not worth it. Plus my new goal was to workout and build up muscles. I'd rather lose it slowly and be healthy and not starving! (or shedding)
Yes I would love to join this club! 65kg(145lbs) would be an IDEAL weight for me! Isn't it funny how your goal changes as you go along?

I started at 187lbs and was praying for the day I'd reach 167lbs. Now - I want to go lower, because I know I can. I still consider myself quite overweight.

145 all the waaaay!

My first goal is 145, then I want to shoot for 135.
Hi guys,

My goal by Christmas is to be in the 160's somewhere, I am 178 right now.  By my Birthday (April), my ultimate goal is to be 145 :).

My goal by Christmas is 145lbs and 135 lbs by April.  I usually weigh in around 150, but have put on some relationship pounds and was distraught to discover that I weighed 167 last week!  I found this website and have been eating between 1200 and 1300 calories per day and have already took off a few pounds.  C'mon girls, we can do it!
hi folks :) I'm at 147 right now with ultimate goal of 135-140 depending on what my body tells me :) I started around 164 at the beginning of the year.  Shakti you look fantastic btw.  ninav, yep I got stuck around 150ish and tried the calorie cycling program, broke that plateau and hoping I'm on my way back down again slowly :) that last 10lbs really is a P.I.T.A.!!!  I'm averaging about 1600 calories a day (more on days I workout, a little less on days I don't) and maintaining a deficit of 500 - 600 cal's per day.  We can do it!! Good luck & good health!

buddy07 and I are in the same boat. I'm stuck at 176, but would like to be in the 160's by Christmas, with an ultimate goal of 145 by the end of March, my birthday month. I started at 232, so I've come a long way, but I just hit my first platueu and I'm not dealing with it well. Everyday has been a struggle. I'm going to keep checking in here in hopes of staying motivated.
Heeey, thanks ninav! Actually you all would be surprised at how many skinny people will look at me and ask me 'do you have to have fat to bellydance?' It's so insulting! I get that question ALL THE TIME! I'm like, uh...what am I supposed to say to that?? Or I will be doing moves that are CLEARLY muscular in origin, i.e. abdominal undulations, and they will ask me if you have to have fat to do the move. I'm like, 'are you TRYING to insult me??'

I've already come to the conclusion that I'm fine, it's just hard when I'm constantly rattled by people like that. It's always the skinny girls that come to class and are not really catching on who say that. I feel like saying 'the fact that you are skinny is not the reason you suck, you just....can't do the move yet.' I think they get frustrated by the moves and want to take out their passive agression on me  or something. I'm sick of people's shit.

And fine at 145! Though I am sick of plateuing here....

you don't have to have fat to belly dance, but i think it's nice to at least have curves.  who wants to see a stick undulating what she doesn't have?... hehehe...  i think you look great, too, shakti.

hope the weekend is going well for you guys.  i ran early this morning so it's nice to have the day ahead me and not have to worry about "forgetting" to work out.
i have been trying really hard to drink all that water.  does it really help?  i would love to see a 'water meeter" at the top of my computer to help me remember.

it is 11 in the morning here in the big apple and i have had 48 oz of water (6 glasses).  i feel chilly.

also, i have a question for all of you in the 145 club....what is this deal about eating more to lose?  i see it on some of the posts...that you must keep your calorie deficit under 1000 to lose, that if your deficit is greater than 1000 you might start gaining?  can you explain?

"i have been trying really hard to drink all that water.  does it really help?  i would love to see a 'water meeter" at the top of my computer to help me remember."

I put elastic bands on my bottle and move them up when I have completed a bottle.

"i see it on some of the posts...that you must keep your calorie deficit under 1000 to lose, that if your deficit is greater than 1000 you might start gaining?  can you explain?"

Because our bodies are wired to protect us from starving to death. If you don't feed yourself enough calories then your body might start to horde as much reserves as possible. And the bad thing about this is two fold.. #1 it slows down your metabolism... #2 your body will not properly disburse nurishment to non-essential parts so you might see things like your hair fallout, your skin dry up and other things internally that aren't good - like constipation, light headedness and more...

So it's better to eat smart and lose weight gradually. Plus if you do it right you can eat a lot of food. I eat well every day because I eat a lot of veggies and fruit and grains with high fiber.

Hi all,

I'm in.  I've been struggling to get back to 145 for years.  I started at 196......UGH  I vowed to not go over 200 no matter what!!  I'm now down to 183.  We are going on a cruise the first week of Jan to celebrate our 25th and I would love to be down to 165 by that time.  Help me....motivate me.  :)

shakti - I tried a belly dance video....OMG...definitly need a bit of muscle.  It was fun.
Hi!

I finally found the nerve to post here at CC.com. I've been lurking here for months now, and it's helped me lose about 11 lbs. I started at 165, and I've been trying to get past 154 for weeks. (Plateaus suck!) I'd like to get down to 145 or less for a Mexico cruise in February, but I realize that the upcoming holidays will make that goal even more challenging than it is. I think we're all gonna need some extra motivation and support when the turkeys start rolling out.

So count me in! Yay!

My last doctor visit i was hit with 187.5.  Although I don't look it, I have plans on starting a family next year and don't want to be in the 200 zone while I am pregnant.  I want to knock off around 20.   I think I will look funny under 160.  I have a pie face. :)
ninav - thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.  i have another for you....how do i figure out the best calorie deifict for my body and my goals?  i am 5'4", 157, would like to get down to 130 but my intermediate goal is 145.  i sit behind a desk all day, but i run around a lot on the weekend (hiking, etc).  any suggestions on figuring this out?

according to my stats on this site, i should be eating around 1200 calories a day to reach my goal by april.  as a sendantary person, i burn around 1700 calories per day, but it can go up to 2400 a day on the weekends if i go for a hike or take a run or a bike ride.

i seem to be stuck at 157....i'd like to see the numbers drop, slowly but steadily, and yet they seem to stay here......
bsaucoin, my numbers are alot like yours, I'm 5'5 170, hoping to reach 135 by April, and the site also says I should eat 1200 calories a day to reach my goal..But then somewhere it also says women should not eat less than 1200 calories..and then everyone says to eat MORE calories to lose...I'm getting a headache trying to understand!
