Hi,

I just discovered this site today as I was trying to find a calorie-counter since I started "the diet" again today...  Actually this is the first time I am really gonna try to lose some weight so I'm hoping finding this site is a godsend...

I am curious if there are any other BIGGGGGG fella's out there who can offer advice on the weight loss program???  I am only 27 years old.  I have always been big, not necessarily fat, but always big...  Cuurently I am sporting about a 56 inch chest and 42 inch waist.

I did a lot of weight training in middle and high school.  I was blessed with a big frame and had the ability to pack on the pounds(both muscle and fat).  My senior year in high-school I played football at 295 lbs(age 17) and was very good.  I would have gone to college and played but figured I would drink myself out the 1st year.

So anyway, its 10 years later and I have reached the 350 lb mark.(which was the 1st BIG shocker).  I can really feel the weight now that my son is 1 year old and I am practically out of breath chasing after him around the house.

Anyhow, if anyone can offer helpful advice on dieting, exercise routines, good treats to eat, etc... I would appreciate it!  Later, Kyle

Almost forgot, my goal is to get down to about 230 lbs...( I haven't been that "small" since 8th grade.

Hey, welcome to the site, Kyle!

I dont fit the 300 club, but I'd thought I'd let you know bout the 100+ to lose club,  they have a few threads, and I'm not sure which is active now, but do a search and read through them :-)
I think its great you've decided to change you lifestyle! Good luck!!

Looks like you were like me now when u were 17 lol. Am 18 and my weight is 282 I started 10 days ago and I have gone from 300 to 282. first 10 lbs was just water weight tho lol. you should cut off 100% all ur sodas and or beer cause those things add up and kill ur diet lol. Try and have alot of small meals per day instead of 1-3 large ones. last 10 days I have only eaten fast food 2 times and I mostly eat salads and deli sandwitchs I make at home. And try and have a water bottle with you at all times, It helps kill the cravings of food lol. If u get really hungry between meals have a fruit or vegetable. I usely eat 1 carrot. You also need to work out. Try and walk more often. Cause when u do lose intensity workouts ur body burns fat. Good luck.

I'm new to this site too. Do get rid of the weight now. I am 60 and it is really tough. I have lost 35 pounds this last year via Weight Watchers. It is a good program but you have to be committed to a life style change. They encourage you and keep you accountable at the scale. Exercise is also very important and easier to do while younger. I am limited to things like water arrobics because its easier on my knees.

Good luck and hang in there.
Thanks for the responses.  I needed to go to the doctor today to get my blood pressure checked and get my yearly labs done...

I'll find out the results of my labs tonight but my BP was right on the money, 120/76.

And my official weight was 346.5 so I am almost 4 lbs lighter than I was last week.  I have NOT even started my exercise routine though so I am hoping to keep sheding the lbs.
I also have another question which I should probably post or search for but I will ask here first.

For the last week I have been eating fruit and yogurty for breakfast.  Fruit for a snack.  Then either chili or a sandwich for lunch plus fruit or yogurt, plus another snack in the afternoon of either fruit or South Beach Cereal Bar...

My analysis is hovering between B's and A's which I am assuming is good.  My fat is at 36% and my protein is at 17% but the (grams) of each are very close to the same.  Carbs are at like 46%.  So, how do I get my Protein up and fat down?  Are there some kind of snacks that I can replace a piece of fruit or yogurt with that is HIGH in Protein and low in fat???

hi kyle....

All sorts of beans are high in protein and low in fat. There are a LOT of recipes here for different things you can do with them. Just be careful if you're buying canned to select low sodium varieties. Even better buy the raw beans and cook them yourself. I've started doing a large pot of black beans on the weekend which I use for different things all week long...like spicy black bean dip or a quick bowl with sliced up jalapenos (not the pickled variety) and sour cream (YUM!).
OK, how about something other than beans, or is that it???  I hate beans!

Anyhow, just talked to the nurse and although my Cholesterol is at 180 my Triglycerides are THROUGH THE ROOF!!!!!!!!!!!  I need to go back in 6 weeks to see how they are.

So, now not only do I need to lose weight, I need to decrease my triglycerides and up my HDL, anybody got a clue how I go about doing that???

Thanks Much for the help so far!
Thats about my goal, 230. I work out quite a bit, I know your pain. It is hard to measure exactly how much fat you have versus muscle. I continue to work out, so muscle growth may fool me, but I just feel better the less calories I eat so thats that. Good luck.

Jerry
Don't mean to ask a stupid question, but is the '300 Club' for people who weigh in the 300's? If yes, then I'm in. I decided 2 weeks ago to stop eating out so much and started taking my lunch to work and eating dinner at home. I started at 335 lbs and I'm now at 328. I love chocolate and I'm trying to abstain from sweets. I like the Adkins Advantage protein bars. They are low cal and good. I think they are healthy for you. I'll eat one for a snack and I won't get hungry as often. I buy them at Walmart.
I currently weigh 324 lbs. and my highest weight that I know of was 340 lbs. I didn't weigh myself for a long period, because it was just too much to take mentally. I got down to 287 lbs. last year, but a few deaths in my family left me unable to properly deal with the stress. I gained a lot of the weight back obviously, but on Monday I started eating healthier again and I have already dropped 6 lbs. I would like to get down to 200 lbs. but 230 lbs. is probably more realistic.
Hello, all! I just discovered this site about an hour or so ago. When I graduated from school in 1990 I weighed 155 pounds, now here I am 34, 5'7" and I weigh 358 pounds, which is down from 370 two weeks ago at the doctor's office.

I did a double take on the scales at the doctor's office this morning just to make sure I read it right, LOL. The only thing I did was walk on the treadmill 3 times a day for 6 minutes at a time. The reason I walked just 6 minutes, is because my back would hurt too much to walk longer. Just losing what I did I can now do 3 20 minute sessions without so much pain. It's still there but it is bearable. Keeping a food log really helps me to make sure I don't over-eat.

Anyways, I just wanted to say HEY and join the 300 club. I am off to the treadmill to do my last session. Good luck to my fellow 300 club members!!
I met mini-goal today. I walked a full mile on the treadmill, non-stop. I could have went further, but I just wanted 1 mile, nothing more and nothing less. I was really proud of myself, because at one time I couldn't even walk five minutes without hurting so bad that I had to quit. Yay me!!! LOL

I am in the same boat as you guys also.

My question is do you guys take in 2800+ daily (from the tools on the site)?  I have been doing 2200-2500 a day and am finding it pretty hard to intake 2800 calories a day (good foods that is), without having to eat a bunch of stuff.   Not to mention if I go for a bike ride or something where that is going to put me.   Am I missing something?

Am I the only one in this situation?  Or am I just not understanding how things are supposed to work?

I just got back from the doctor's office and I lost another 8 pounds. That's 20 total starting from 03/05/07. I can really feel the difference too. Only 20 more pounds until I reach another mini-goal, weighing myself on our set of scales. :-)
I forgot to say I added a picture from today to go along with the others I have posted, if you are brave enough to look at a fat man with his shirt off. :-)
hey vwoods...I added you to my friend list...I hope that is ok.  I am 31 years old, female and currently weigh 333 lbs.  That is down from 371 on 2/28/07 ...woo hoo!!

I thought we could talk and encourage each other. It is hard to find someone (even on this site) that has as much weight to loose as I do.  I saw that your goal weight is 139.  Mine is 140.

I also love love love chocolate...I have been buying the Body for Life Protein Bars..Mint Chocolate...I get them at Big Lots.  They are so yummy and are only 5.00 for an entire box.

Drop me a line sometime!!!
ok guys, I'm may hopefully have to resign from this thread soon. I'm at 310 with 25 lbs lost. I'm met some nice people here. I had planned to be under 300 by my birthday on July 9th, but I think I may reach it sooner than that, if things keep progressing as they have. 11 more to go to get under 300.
I am happy for ya!! Hopefully I won't be too far behind ya. I just got back from the doctor. I lost another 13lbs bringing me to 33lbs lost since 3/5 . I still got 38 to go to be under 300, but I am pretty confident I will make it.
Welcome to the site, I just found it last month when I found out I was a member of the 300+ club.

I was shocked to find out I had broke the mark. I wasn't as high as some but I was still over 300.

I can't say I will tell you what is the best way to start, different diets work better for different people.

I used to be a really active person when I was younger, played football and basketball and other sports for leisure. But I was always right around 200.
So for me to be at 300 was about the same differance as you.

I have just started getting back in the gym, hell getting back isn't the right wording; got into the gym lol.
Joined a gym, started drinking more water, quit smoking, started a diet and I have been going well.

For our weekly competition I weighed in at 286 last week so I am well on my way.

Wish I could give you more specific advice but it sounds like you are well on your way and know what you need to work on.

There is plenty of help here, just ask and read.

Good luck on your jorney.
I'm at 347 as of last Sunday, down from 406 in February. I walk a lot (4-8 miles most days) and eat 1200 calories a day as advised by my doc. I eat a lot of veggies (mostly raw) to make that 1200 calories into a decent amount of food!

I've built the walking up over time (started at 6 blocks!), just as I started doing the stairs at work over time (first I would go up to the 2nd floor and take the lift, then the 3rd, now I get to 4 just by taking the stairs. I try to do that 3 times a day. I park far out in the parking lot and walk the long way round on the way in and out of work and also take a walk at lunch. That racks up aerobic steps on my pedometer, then I take a 3-4 mile walk with one of my dogs (I alternate) in the evening 5 days a week or so. A couple weeks ago I started using a weight machine and doing a routine on it 3 times a week.
