I'm looking for a 130/120 club, but I don't see any topics started.

If anyone knows of the proper topic, would you mind letting me know?

Thank you :)

Thank you spokesreagan so much for that! So it's the calories more than anything. I suspected as much. I too just stick to the calories and eat what I want. But I make sure to get protein, green veggies and fiber daily. Actually I get an A grade from this site nearly every day. And I write down everything I eat.

For a long time I didn't think I could do 1400 per day (aiming for 1200). I started with 2000 cals/day. I exercise quite a bit each day, though less and less as I eat less. Over time I've decreased my "need" to eat so much, I've made peace with portion control, and I've been averaging fewer and fewer cals per day until the past 3 weeks, when I've been averaging 1400 per day. I'd like to get to 1200 so I could reduce the exercise even more. But we'll see. I weigh tomorrow morning.

Today I had a teaspoon of fudge (and other treats - I have treats every day). I think the last time I had a teaspoon of fudge was when I was 4 years old. But it was okay. I can't believe it, but it was. And I made the fudge. Wow. Excuse me while I pat myself on the back!

One more thing (lest anyone think I'm too thin). My daughter was away for 8 months in another country and returned today for a visit and didn't notice my weight loss. Not one person has noticed my loss of about 20 pounds.  I'm very strange that way. I look nearly the same as before, except I can wear lots more clothes with ease and I feel much better.

Can you tell me what you mean by jump starting the metabolism? Does it mean that when you eat way more than 1200 (do you get to 2000?), then go back to 1200, you lose even more weight faster than before?

Thanks again! And let's keep in touch!

Aiming for 120 now ...

Me
To jumpstart my metabolism I usually go over by a hundred or so calories. I eat 1200 calories a day, though usually it's really hard for me to get that high since I've gotten so used to not needing the food, on my over-calorie days I usually eat about 1400-give or take. I feel like it keeps my body from getting used to the smaller amounts of food. I haven't hit a plateau (*knock on wood*) and I've steadily lost weight the entire time.
I started my weight loss at a whopping 129. I am between 5'1 & 5'2" and at that weight I was huge and gross.  I was always a very petite and slender teenager barely 100 pounds and in my early 20s I was about 105-110 until I was 28ish. Just the past few years I do nothing but eat.

I am now toggling between 115 and 120, definitely wear smaller clothes but still feel huge.

I want to be between 105 and 110 by the end of the year.
Stokesreagan, just FYI York peppermint patties are 160 calories per serving, not each.  There are three in a serving.  Still 50-something each, but that's better than 160!

I know because I did some research on the website.  I had one patty for dessert one night, and afterwards I happened to look at the package and almost had a heart attack!  Not because I was worried about gaining weight or anything, just because I was so surprised that one little patty could be so calorie-dense.  Turns out it's high, but not as high as all that.  I keep 'em in the freezer for a little minty treat.
Also, I weighed in yesterday at 117.  I know no one's keeping the chart anymore, so I'm just putting it out there!
Wow. Thanks, jenka. That was more like what I was expecting. I thought I was treating myself to a little treat. Then I saw the 160 and I thought I was going to pass out.
Jenka, You got me excited to think I could actually eat York Peppermint patties for a treat.  Unfortunately I just checked out the Hershey's web site which lists one patty as a serving and it contains 140 calories.  Of course you might have been talking about the mini ones which would make sense.  That info isn't listed on their site, howver.

Oh.....that makes me very sad again. Boo, Hershey's. Boo!
I agree: BOO!  This is weird, because I did extensive research several months ago and I clearly remember it saying that three patties were 1 serving.  I will have to check the package when I get home.  The ones I have are a couple inches in diameter, not the Junior Mints but the real York Peppermint Patties.  Hmph.  I am not pleased.
Well, you don't want to knnow what steroids do to your weight.  I have to start all  over again.  Any good advise on after dinner binging?  I am having such a hard time in the evening.  What "tricks" and advice do you all have?
My tricks to avoid late night snacking (a major problem for me) are to eat Tasti-d-lite low calorie frozen dessert (I think available only in NY) as my treat. It is about 15 calories per ounce and I eat a 8oz cup. TRuthfully though I am thinking of excluding it soon.

I also keep ABSOLUTELY NO bad snacks in the house.

I keep fat free, sugar free jello and rice cakes which are actually a very satisfying snack. I also enjoy 100 calorie packs of cookies, popcorn and crackers. Only eat one pack as a snack. The other thing is to keep those airpopped bags of popcorn.
I basically do the same things as nycgirl. 100 calorie snack packs, no unhealthy snacks within my reach (although honestly I have no desire for them anymore), lots and lots of strawberries, and sugar-free/fat-free Popsicles/Fudgsicles. I absolutely love those. They're fabulous! I exercise right after I eat, when I first get home from work (about 5pm) and then eat the snack right afterwards. Then, I'm not hungry when I go to bed. The strawberries are the best snack, though. They're very low in calories and taste great. I usually eat about 10 a day. I cut them into about 6-8 pieces and they last a long time. Really great for movie time. Bananas are good, too. But they do have a considerable amount of calories.
Thanks Stokesreagan.

LizSteichen, what helps me most with night eating is to have more protein in the morning.  Try it.

Of course the key is not to do "emotional" eating (that's what Bob Greene - Oprah's coach - calls it).  Fortunately though I don't like some of my emotions, I'm pretty aware of what they are and I don't eat over them, or I haven't since I started counting calories in Novemer.  Lately when I would have done emotional eating in the past I try to get busy doing something else, including work, email, exercise, cleaning whatever.

I chew sugarless gum too.  I always want something in my mouth.  I hope I get over that.

I didn't lose any weight this week.  But this has happened before, so I'll just keep trying.

Wow, I guess I'm..I'm in this club now. I was in the 140/130's before. But at my last weigh-in, I hit 129.6.

YAY! My newest endeavor is trying to tone up without BULKING up. Great thing is, with less fat, it's easier to put on muscle, but the worst thing is, it looks bulkier. I'm trying to get those long lean muscles. (Especially in my arms.)

'Kay, hi!
hey i wanted to ask everyone here who has ever hit  a plateau. Is it possbily for you to still lose inches but have the scale not change? Is the plateau literally mean you're hgetting skinnier? Could it just been you're not weighing less? Do you tihnk that if i were to up my cals for one day and go back down the next, would that help?

Liz, regarding evening snacking: I am a firm believer in zig-zagging and not depriving oneself.  I also LOVE to go out to eat.  So what I do is I try to eat as healthy as I can and keep calories to a minimum at least 4 days out of the week, and then the other days (which often tend to be weekends but not necessarily) I eat as healthy as I can during the day and then go out to eat for dinner.  So what that means in terms of evening snacking is that I have something in the very near future to look forward to, and it's easier to just say no to after-dinner snacks when I know in a day or so I will be able to go out to eat and have delicious restaurant food (which is my favorite thing in the world).  Like, I don't want to have some lame snackie-treat after dinner when I can save those calories for something super-delicious in a couple days.  It's easier to have self control when you know you can let loose at some point.  I tell you all this just as an example, maybe you can find something that motivates you enough to compensate for no after-dinner snacking.
Thanks everybody for your input and support. (Stokesreagan:  I love the strawberry idea, but knowing me, I'll eat a portion of ten berries  four or five times a day!)  I hate to whine, but I am having a very hard time.  Theoretically, I cannot even be in the club.   And let's face it, I have lost my willpower too.  There are no tempting snacks in the house, believe me, but I could eat cardboard!  I need to be accountable to somebody again!  My doctor does not care how blimpy I am as long as the blood picture is ok!   So, if you all are game, I'll keep the weekly chart again, starting next Wednesday, May 23.

Give me your goal weigh and your current weight each Wednesday and I'll post online in this thread like I have done before.  See  you then.

Liz
Liz-I understand. It's my favorite snack. I usually eat a pound of strawberries a day. They're just so low-cal and delicious! I'm sure you'll get back with it. Just get healthy first! Your health is much more important than a fabulous body.

I'm still going to stick around and chat, but I'm not going to post my current weight and my goal weight here. I'm way too far out of the 120's now.
