I'm looking for a 130/120 club, but I don't see any topics started.

If anyone knows of the proper topic, would you mind letting me know?

Thank you :)

simi -- Can I just say that I am so proud of you with your diet and exercise you are just doing so great all around. Careful with the running it is addictive :)  ( I just got back from a morning jog,  it always puts me in such a good mood.  I love Oregon in the spring, the trees are stating to bloom and I saw so many birds, just beautiful).

wonderwhy -- I am also a snacker while studying.  It used to be chocolate and popcorn.  Now I eat sugar snap peas (my fav.), carrots (not the best, kinda high in sugar), brocolli, beef jerky, tea, water with lemon.  dull  I know,  I just have to tell myself that I want a six-pack more than I want chocolate.  IMO  I would not snack on simple carbs (like pretzels  or rice cakes), instead keep your snacks low cal, low glycemic index, high fiber (to fill you up) and/or high protein.

edit:

Note:  If you eat enough protein and net 1200 calories a day, spread out over 5-7 meals.  YOu should not be hungry.  You CAN diet and feel satisfied (not stuffed) and energized.  If you are feeling hungry, adjust your macros accordingly, maybe increase fat intake??

Thanks for the suggestions! I liked that snap pea one in particular...man, I love those things, but I haven't remembered to buy them in forever!

Pretzels used to be my thing, but I found myself literally eating the whole bag, and salt adds up!

I have been feeling pretty hungry lately, even though I'm eating 1400 cal a day. I think part of the problem may be that I have an intestinal disease (currently under control) that used to be a major problem for me, and now my whole digestive tract gives me mixed signals about things. For example, my stomach growls AFTER I eat, not before. So annoying. I'm never entirely sure when I'm hungry and when I'm not.

Sometimes I worry that I'm eating too much fiber. I know I'm not supposed to eat a lot of fiber when I'm sick, but I'm in remission now. The thing that makes me worry is that occasionally after eating high fiber food (like two protein bars back to back), I'll get the sensation that the food is trapped in my throat and it's about 4-6 hours before the feeling goes away. I drink water like crazy when that happens, but it doesn't seem to help. Generally I've noticed that if I eat again within 4 hours, I get really nauseous, and if I eat after the 4 hours have passed, then I start feeling a lot better. Delicate balance. Any ideas what might be going on with that??

ps- simi - congrats! I'm horrible at running, so I know what an accomplish that is!

If you do not mind me askign what do you have? i have a family member with IBS and another with ulcerative colitis.  none of those??  If you have prexisting condition you may very well have to andjust things accordingly.  How many grams of fiber are you allowed.  I shoot for 35g a day.  Are you eating 1400 or netting 1400??  (netting = eat-burn)

BTW I am not a big fan of manufactered p. bars, too many sugar alcohols.  Which can make you feel bloated, gassy.

hmmm  not sure what to think about your nausea but I would make sure to eat then every 4 hours on the dot (no longer).  But shorter is better to keep your blood sugar level.  (It maxes out about 2 hours after you eat, a little later if you ate fat.)

I have uc. Since you know someone with it, maybe you have some more specific suggestions...? Of course the thing with uc is that every person's body seems to react differently to treatment. In my case, I'm still not even convinced that it's the medication I'm taking that has put me in remission...I think it might be spontaneous remission.

Also, I was never able to identify any particular foods that made my condition worse. As far as I know I don't have any food allergies or anything like that either. I tried an extremely restrictive diet for about 8 months with no results, and since then I've been eating whatever I want (hence the 120 to 144 weight gain). Remission since September '05! So exciting...and terrifying, because who knows when it will be back...and my uc is pretty severe.

Yeah, protein bars don't make me feel good. Unfortunately most good sources of protein require refrigeration, and I'm hardly ever home these days! Frustrating...

As for my calorie intake, I eating 1400. I haven't worked the math for the calorie burning because my exercise varies so much from day to day that it's hard to keep up. Should I be doing that?

Right now I'm trying for 5 meals a day, and I really like it...in theory...but I'm so much of a morning eater that I have trouble leaving enough for dinner (usually about 200cal).

UC is hard and the person I know with it is never good with his diet.  He finally had his colon removed last spring which I think was a good move.  He was hvaing 4-5 flare ups a year and it was affecting his schooling.  Sorry I am not of more help.  I will have to do more research...

I would suggest making homemade protein bars instead (so you can better control what goes in). Also p shakes work well (just add water)

And yes it is very improtant that you keep track of your calories burned or you may very easily over-restrict.  I also rarely save much for "dinner."  My last meal of the day is often a protein shake, as I try to fit in as much protein with as little calores at the last minute :)

How old was he? I'd like to think I'll never need to have my colon removed, but who knows... The talk of surgery was just beginning when I went into remission. I had tried steriods, etc, etc... I almost dropped out of school my sophomore year.

So...back to exercise...I have a dance class on Thursdays which according to the Activity Log burns about 560 calories...does that mean I should eat almost 2000 calories on Thursdays?

*off to look for homemade protein bar recipes*

He was 22 yo

If you want to net 1200, I would eat 1760

I posted my recipe on pg 22 of this forum  (try cooking some of the oatbran or oatmeal before you add it to the batter, it makes for a the bar more moist)

Simi - I am going to reevalute my goals when I do reach 125.  I originally had a goal of 120, but was getting frustrated when I was not seeing results, so I decided to change my goal to something a little more attainalbe.  I am really shocked that this weight loss thing is finally working for me - like i mentioned before, I really believe it is because I have all of you as an awesome support system.  I will keep everyone posted with any new goals!

Morning everyone! :D
Happy St. Patty's Day first off! Laughing

Congrats to everyone...you're really doing great! Whether you are struggling with eating habits or achieving running the mile.....I just want to say, way to go! :D Even with slip ups, etc. if you get back up and keep on going....doing what you can to stay on track is a huge accomplishment! :D

Well, ladies, I just wanted to mention a little recipe for a snack idea that I got from someone I know.  It's a fruit dip....great for pears and apples. :D

The recipe is as follows:

2 cups Nonfat Plain yogurt

1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

4 Tbs frozen orange juice concentrate

Fold all ingredients together gently and chill over ice.

*Note: As a bit easier modification, I just used Vanilla nonfat yogurt (to eliminate the extract) and used regular orange juice not from concentrate (since that's what I had on hand) and I just mixed it together in a plastic container, put in frig to chill for several hours to let flavors have a chance to really get mixed. I ended up making it yesterday afternoon and had some this morning.....it is really tasty!*

Plus, I'm not much of a yogurt person...but the yogurt mix is even good to have by itself...:D Just another idea...:D

Have a great day all! ttyl. :D

Collins - I think I will be doing the same, if I ever get to 125 :)

I have a question for anyone who might know the answer.  After about a month of healthy eating I became really regular.  Going poo (for lack of a better word!) was like clockwork, every single day.  Lately, I guess the past two weeks it has not been regular AT ALL.  I hardly go at all anymore and I'm a little confused.  The only change in my diet has been a decrease in the amount of oranges I have per week, from like.. 6 a week to 3 or 4.  I also have had some more fatty foods but that is only on my cheat day on the weekend.  Other than that it's pretty much the same.  Also, I don't know if this is related, but yesterday I did one of my bi-weekly scale thingys and I was up two pounds and you guys of all people know that my weight doesn't yo yo like that, it hardly moves one way or the other.  I just wanted some input because I am very confused.  Am I constipated and is that causing the crazy increase?  is my body just using more nutrients?  Have I gained muscle mass?  Of course, my TOTM is next week so some of this could be bloating.  I'm a little frustrated.  At least I can hang on to running a mile on Friday :)  I know that was real.

Thanks in advance.  P.S. I start my new job at the piano store today.  SUPER EXCITED!  Margo thanks for the recepie.. it sounds super yummy :)  ok... too many supers, talk to you guys later today.

Hi Simi,

Sorry I don't have a whole lotta info. for ya on why you're system isn't being regular. :/

Fiber is always something I've heard helps....but other than that..I dunno. :/ Though good luck!

Btw, your welcome for the recipe....it is pretty yummy. :D Hope you get to try it sometime soon. :D

Ttyl.

I want to join! I am kind of some what new to this. I am 130, and I fluctuate daily, between 129-133. I have never weighed this much in my life, and I cant get the scale to budge. I feel like maybe I have lost some inches from now my pants can fit better but the scale says different. I had a spring scale and it would say like 127, then I bought a digital and it said 134 I was soooo disappointed. Now I go by my digital scale because it is more accurate than my spring scale but it was sad.

I jog/walk everyday and do my weight lifting every other day. Eat pretty healthy too. Hopefully within 2 weeks I start seeing some changes in 2 weeks I hope my scale says 126!

I want to be 120!

hanholt -- welcome, pleae bve sure to weigh in on wednesdays.  Here is wishing you the best.  (Glad to see you are doing weights)

simi- I am usually regular but if I neglect veggies, or overrestrict my calories.  I will stop very fast.  So assumign you are not over-restricting.

By cutting down on oranges you have lost 4g fiber/orange fiber and a good source of water intake.  So I would address both of those.  Drink more, eat a cup or two of brocolli raw and maybe up your carbs for a day.  (just like one extra serving for one day seems to do the trick most of the time for me.  A good one is 2 cups popcorn (w/ no butter) it is not the best source of fiber but somehow it always works for me.  Otherwise hormones may be slowing you down,  it does for a lot of women a few days before that time.  And you are still fairly new to your BC as I recall.

Jen - Yes, I just switched two months ago.  That might have something to do with it, but I will work on the raw veggies this afternoon. (I packed an orange today) I'm not over-restricting.  If anything I'm eating more calories than I used to, not by much though.  I'm also going to try to make the switch to more protein and less carbs soon... I haven't gotten the guts to go for it yet but I will be working on that, maybe that will help.  Thanks for the advice :)  I'll check back in in a few weeks to see where my weight is then.

 Hi everyone!

Margo - just wanted to say thanks for your encouraging post. I had a really tough weekend of essay-writing and cookie-eating in the library. So I fear the worst for this week's weigh-in. I didn't go to sleep until 4am last night, and it was so hard not to snack for energy purposes! I think I did better than I would have if I weren't calorie counting...but I still ate almost 2000cal yesterday! *sigh* Oh well...I'll get back on track today...

sauciedj - I wanted to let you know that the advice jen gave to eat protein is so good.  I was frustrated several weeks back with losing hardly any weight, just stuck at one number on the scale over and over and over, and she said I wasn't eating enough protein, and I thought... as long as I don't eat fat I should be alright.. right?  Well, after that I started eating eggs and cheese and meat and guess what.. bam, the next week down one pound, and the next week again, down a pound.  It really worked for me.  Protein is your friend :)

That's really good to hear, because I feel like I plateau'd last week. I have an open love affair with carbs, but this week I'm going to cut down on carbs, or maybe only eat the complex carbs jen suggested, and really up the protein. By the way, congrats on the breezy mile!!! It only gets easier from here, or so my high school cross country coach told me years ago.

Also, welcome to the new folks, and well wishes to everyone! I wish I could offer some advice, but I'm still an experimenting n00b myself lol

Hi everybody! so, I haven't post since my first one, about a week or so, but, I'm  not doing too well lately. I have an enormous amount of work and have been binging because I'm too stressed. I gained 1/2 a pound. It's not that much but still, I was doing so well. But this week, enough of the "binging thing"! I'm going on track today, hopefully not doing so bad this week (i'm in El Salvador and we have vacations since wednesday).

How is everybody doing?!

Lots of hugs and happy holidays

What are you doing to lose weight?

Workouts? How many days a week. More weight lifting, running, or jogging?

Eating habbits?

How is it working for you :]

Hi everyone!

Wonderswhy - Glad I could be of some encouragement! :D Hope you are able to just pick up from where you left off before the cookie attack..hehe..and the lack of sleep. :/

My boyfriend is always saying, 'one day at a time'...so I pass that on to you (and everyone else). :D Take a deep breath (or a few..hehe) and forge ahead!

It looks like a lot of us are having a tough time lately, as well as myself....

Ladies, try to stay positive! :D You can do this! :D

Another side note about snacks.....how about some hummus (like Joseph's brand Original w/ tahini or Garlic flavor w/ tahini!...such a smooth consistency and soo yummy!) with raw veggies, like bell pepper, baby carrots, broccoli, etc.

I still suggest edammame beans in the pod to eat as a snack or a side dish w/ dinner or lunch. Man they are just soo tasty to me! :D Other than my battle with my sweet tooth..hehe..I believe I've found my new addictive food! haha....that isn't a horribly bad food for one to eat. :D

ANYWAY, hope everyone has a better day today! :D (grins!)

Total side tracking here....but did anyone catch the new Bachelor show last night? I have to say....it looks a bit crazy w/ some of those women...(though it seems like that a lot of seasons) but I'd have to say this British Bachelor seems pretty charming! :D

Well, ttyl, ladies!

-Margo

hello ladies. i'm reading up on everyone's posts.

margo, that dip sounds like a dreamsicle! yummy!

haven't been to the gym since thursday, bad me ;) i definitely feel the difference in my energy level when i wake up in the marning (in a negative way.) at leona's on sat. i was doing good, but our food took foorrrreevvver, and i ended up eating lots of the bread. then my cousin ordered a huge brownie sunday we all shared. sun. & mon. were corned beef & cabbage fests, but the soda bread is what did me in- 100 cals a slice, and i had mannyyy slices, plus spinach dip & hawaiian bread, and frosted cookies. :) but reading 125lbs today, so not too bad. i'll be back in the gym today.

i'm starting a new venture painting characters in children's rooms. i'm doing a piece for a friend (gratis, just for my portfolio) with a castle and unicorn. so that's scary/ exciting.
