I'm looking for a 130/120 club, but I don't see any topics started.

If anyone knows of the proper topic, would you mind letting me know?

Thank you :)

So i totally never stop learning from this forum.  Jen, all your input is so helpful.  You are really right about toning and lifting heavier weights.  It's so easy to just wimp out because I'm a girl instead of going for a challenge.

Well.. ladies, today my parents and husband went for our run (or walk for my mom).  I am happy to say that I made it to the one mile walk running.. most of the way.  I've never run outside before so that was really a challenge, hills and everything, so I think that even if I didn't quite make a mile the difficulty level was much higher.  So I'm proud of myself.  My mom and I walked (speed walking!) for over 2 more miles, maybe a total of 3.5 miles this morning, which is major for me!  That's like the most cardio I've done in a long long time.  So.. Yay!

When my parents came into town they brought with them... an easter basket :)  Reading what all of you have said about sugar is hard because I love candy so much.  (My dentist knows that far too well).  For me it is a part of my lifestyle, hope that isnt' too offensive, but I think I would get depressed if I cut out sweets, I can't do it.  Besides, everything in moderation (It's not like I'm gorging on jelly beans) and my diet has been super healthy lately so I think I'm due a reward here and there. :)  I hope someone agrees with me here :)

I'm with you SIMI....for me sweets are not my vice....more like pizza, hot dogs and whoppers.  YIKES!  So I treat myself maybe every 3-4 weeks with one of the three....although with the kids on spring break, I'm sad to say it's been a little more often.  One more week, and it's back to the complete diet.

I do weights at home, and am upping it to 3-4 times a week.  I'm a total weakling, and have slowly progressed to 10 lb dumb bells.  My husband thinks I'm crazy and makes comments like my arms are gonna get huge.  From reading all these boards I know a woman is not genetically made up to get "huge," but can't help worry a little about it.  I want to look toned....and not cross the line to look "muscle-bound." I also read that to build muscle you need to up your calories a bit, eat more protein etc etc.  Since I don't really want to get bulky, should I keep my deficit going?  Or does my body need more calories so that I don't lose muscle or move into starvation mode?  Shucks....I hope that wasn't a confusing question.

those darn calzones....

i have been sick lately, so naturally i used it as my excuse to eat everything in site. last night my friends went out to get calzones and of course i had to get a spinach one. they are so good, but i wasn't even hungry. not to mention the 2 jack and cokes i had. grrrrr

i really need to get on track....... tons of veggies and a long run today lol

Happy Easter Ladies - good luck with the temptations of the Easter goodies!  Kiss

(too shy to start a new topic Embarassed) Hey everyone. I'm a new member here, although I've been browsing this site/forum for a while now. I've recently hit a plateau and I desperately need help!

My stats: I'm 16, female, and weigh 120 lbs. I know, I know... I'm not overweight. The problem's not my weight in general, it's my proportions. I have a stick-thin upper body, no chest, a huge behind, and thighs to match. So I've been dieting simply to get myself more proportionate.

calories burned daily: about 1900 (walking and jogging)

calories consumed: 1300-1600, 5 days a week. one day of the week, I meet my calorie requirements. another day (what I call my "carefree day"), I exceed by around 200.

breakfast: 400 cals of protein, complex carbs, dairy

lunch: 400 cals of protein, complex carbs, fruit

snack: 400 cals of yogurt, fruit, simple carb (so I don't feel like I'm depriving myself)

dinner: 300 cals of vegetables, some meat

I've been at it for five months. I dropped 5 lbs the first month or two and have been on plateau the rest of the time. I have NOT been underestimating my calorie intake or overestimating my calorie burn. If anything, it's the other way around.

I do push-ups and sit-ups, and stretches, but I don't weight train as I have my parents to contend with for the purchase of equipment, and they're not taking me seriously. I've heard of this zig-zagging calories thing, but isn't varying my calories from 1300-2000 in a week enough? I'm still on a weekly deficit of 1000 AT LEAST, so I should be dropping AT LEAST a pound every 3 weeks or so.

Or... is there such thing as an "comfortable weight," where your body refuses to lose no matter how hard you try? Should I just give up and accept my genes?

Sorry for the huge post! Any advice is appreciated!

I was hoping to going this group too!

I am 5'4 133-not sure  where I want my weight to end up-but I think about 120ish. Mainly I want to get me bingeing under control.

I am supossed to eat 1500 cals a day. As my name implies I am outside alot of the day with my animals-so when I walk into the house I go and eat and eat and eat, and nothing healthy either!

So my goal for this week is to lose 2lbs and reduce nighttime bingeing by eating right through out the day!

wonderwhy -- good start, I see some muscles.  (Middle back and traps are looking good)  WAY more than I had a year ago (when I first got serious about lifting and started eating right).

simi -- glad to hear you are getting the whole fam involved, and congrats on the outdoor mile. They are so much harder, so you should feel good about your accomplishment.  Do not worry about a sweet reward here and there.  The problems arise when they are no longer rewards but a lifestyle.

burnyh -- you will not bulk at a deficit in calories.  But without a gram of protein per # of lean masss you will lose muscle when dieting, eventually resulting in a lowered resting metabolism. (muscle burns calories all day long)  This will make it being nearly impossible to reach a very lean state.  So lift and eat protein and keep a deficit.  You will only get smaller and stronger.  I curl 25# DB and I do not think anyone would call my arms bulky.

denne - everyone has their set backs, no worries.

helionix -- if you want to balance, you need to lift heavy weights and eat protein (I am also bottom heavy) and never made any imrovements by just dieting.  Sometimes I think your body is really unwilling to get below a certain # on the scale and at that point you need to focus on changing your body composition to reach an ideal body type.  When I first joined the gyme,  I ask everyone for $ for my b-day and used it for the initiation fee.  I also suspect you are eating too little at your age.  Good to see you have a "cheat day" though and a snack.   What are your ratio of protein/carbs/fat a day?? b/c this can make a big difference (40/40/20 is best IMO).

pony -- glad to here you want to focus more cals earlier in the day,  I think you will have good results with that.  Keep us posted.

I made omlettes tonight!  I'm so proud of myself, protein me :)  And the whole easter candy thing.. I've figured, if I splurge today there will be less for me to eat tomorrow :)

By the way guys... my new job, it's heaven. HEAVEN!!

I weighed myself today and i'm still up a bit, is it because of TOTM or is it something else?  I was wondering jen, am I gaining muscle because of all the lifting I'm doing?  My legs are more shaply than ever and my tummy is looking much more defined as well, so I am def. noticing a difference there, is that causing the gain?  I mean, it could be the TOTM and the new BC that I'm on, because normally I stay the same weight with little bitty changes, not like.. three pound changes.  anyway... just curious.

Wonderswhy....great back pic.

I think it's great to take a pic. of ourselves where we feel we're most proud of our accomplishments.....whether that's back/arm muscles, legs, abs, etc. :D

Wonderful inspiration Jen!

Congrats to all the other ladies too and working on adding weights to your workout routines....it's not always easy, but little by little it def. makes a difference!

I added a bit of weights to my exercise routine this weekend...and though I felt proud of myself and did a cardio. class afterward.....I wiped myself out. haha. I was exhausted...and this was on Saturday.... See, I take a weight lifting class at the gym and w/in an hr. we work every muscle group...maybe if I just up the weights to a few exercises every other workout...then I will not feel so exhausted.

Anyway...

Welcome to the new ladies too! :D

Have a great Monday!

P.S. I know I try to be positive on this forum and uplifting when I can...b/c I feel it's important to not bring ppl. down, esp. when it comes to something like trying to lose weight/get healthy.  We have enough ppl. in our lives that do that..including ourselves...(at least I do), so I figure I should try to be positive to others..like you ladies.  Though I must say....Simi...you aren't alone (or any other ladies out there), with having a huge sweet tooth. I am really bad at that...and I've just found it's a daily battle for me.  So, hope I can still be positive for you all and for myself, even with my own slip ups.

Anyway, have a great day! :D

I dont' know how much I'm going to have to show for the weigh in on Wednesday.  My weight keeps fluctuating by 2lbs every morning.  It's really annoying!  What's worse is I am having some killer cravings today.  I just hope to make it through the week Undecided

Kathleen -

You can make it! :D Yeah, daily weigh ins can be frustrating b/c of all the room for fluctuations...

Weighing yourself once a week seems to be a little less daunting....so hope that helps...

Have a great day!

ahh that blasted scale, up then down, then up again.  This is why I am a big proponent of progress pics, especially as you get close to your goals.   I hate taking them but am always so happy to have them.  It is so easy to forget how far you have come (are comming) when the progress is gradual.   And the scale has not showing any improvements for weeks.  So grab that bikini and find a camera! :)  (You will be soo happy you did)
I have a question for all you gals.  What kind of supplements do you all take???  (if any)  What are your opinions on brands etc.  and do you notice any short-term difference in your health??  Or do you notice timing makes a difference, say with your oils etc???

I will start, each morning I take the following:

1 MultiV (centrum)

2 glucosamine (shiffs brand I find works best more $$ than others but I notice a difference)

2 tums (cheap calcium source)

1 vit C (only when a co-worker or family memebr is sick do I do this one)

2 fiber choice tablets (yummy)

1 omega-3 capsule (gotta get my good fats)

i am noticing that as my weight goal gets closer, the scale is not moving as much.  My body is still changing but I am looking to tweak whatever little thing I need to, so I would love to hear opinions.

So I'm back from Vegas! We didn't end up going to any buffets because the lines were horrific, and the alcohol they put in the cocktails was so negligible, it was like drinking juice. So I think I came out pretty well, I weighed myself this morning and was the same weight as when I left Friday morning. Cool Plus we had to walk so much, my muscles were more sore than if I had gone to the gym.

I was a little upset this morning because my boyfriend was teasing me about being fat, but he was just joking. I just feel a little sensitive because I've been working pretty hard on losing weight and have lost 5 pounds, but now I feel like nobody but me even notices any change. I guess I'll be the one laughing when I reach goal though.

Jen, I take a Centrum A-Z pill and Omega 3 gummy (lol I like them because they're like gummi bears...). I don't really know how that affects my diet too much though, I just take them because my mom said it would be good for me, and mommy knows best.

Good job with the added weights, Margo! It sounds like you've got a good plan going. And Kathleen, good luck! I'm sure this week will be fine.

I didn't even know they made omega-3 gummies.  I like the sound of them, though.

Congrats on returning from vegas unscathed.  :)

Sorry the b/f is being a bit unsensitive.  I think sometimes others do not realize just how sensitive the subject of weight is.  But I doubt he would kid around with you if he thought there was any truth in it.  He is likely only comfortable doing it b/c it is sooo far from the truth.  This does not mean that you can not ask him nicely to please stop, even if he is just joking because it is a sensitive subject for you.  Hey it may even lead to a nice conversation about percieved body images.

My hubby is also very sensitive about his body, something I only learned when I first opened up to him about my insecurities.  And it was good to know b/c us girls can be just as guilty sometimes.  There is often the perception that boys do not care about such things but they often do too.

Hi Jen, for supplements I take zinc, B combo, A, and a multi.  The brand doesn't really matter to me, I just buy the cheap ones.  I read an article about how they analyzed vitamins to see how correct the labels were and many of the more expensive ones were actually very off.  There's no real regulation of vitamins yet, so the companies aren't held accountable for their labels.  Very scary!  Anyway, I take them with food, usually at dinner time.

kathleen -- what are your thoughts behind taking extra zinc and A in addition to a  multi??

I've never really considered taking supplements..do you all find that they make a big difference? With everything being geared towards "weight losss and nutrition" i'm always weary of gimmicks

simignonne- love omelets for dinner! it always makes me feel very virtuous, but at the same time chic & cosmopolitan ;)

love the supplement talk, love hearing something new about what everyone's doing. i have those packets of daily vitamins where it's like 4 pills, but honestly i hardly ever take them (forget) :( i take a couple omega-3's when i remember/ have them in stock. but i do these every day-

  • couple spoonfuls of benefiber
  • Matcha Green Tea!!! (i swear by this stuff. love the taste, love the energy, antioxidants galore, and if it has any weightloss benefits, that's just a bonus.) also called gunpowder tea. instead of infusing water w/ tea leaves you mix in the whole powdered leaf & stem. great before a workout if you need a boost.
  • ground cinnamon. maybe 1/2 a teaspoon per cup of coffee, at least two servings a day. may help stabilize blood sugar. plus most spices help reduce body inflammation.

this is helping motivate me to keep my viatmins by the coffee at work, so i actually take them!

so i don't remember if i mentioned it to you ladies or just in my journal, but i'm attempting a new venture painting characters/ murals for children's rooms, which kept me out of the gym last week (bad!). but i'm back to the gym and definitely have more energy b/c of it! here's the preliminary site i'm working on. i definitely need more portfolio shots, it's really not representative of all we (mom & I) can do! http://flightsoffancymurals.googlepages.com

Heather (hbbroadbent) - Wonderful website and good luck with this new venture! So far so good! It's awesome! :D

Everyone...keep up the success! :D

Note: Vitamins & me....I take a multi-vitamin when I remember to take it..gulp...which isn't very often.

Happy Tuesday! :D
