Sherry~ Sounds like you're doing a good job of kicking your own self in the booty, lol! =)
I also need a kick in the booty... been so drained and don't feel like exercising much anymore. I did make myself run tonight though, and I burned 420 calories doing that. Ate well today too. Not too bad I guess.
Sherry~ if you don't train for your half marathon you are going to have the most miserable experience and won't want to ever run again. Go to runnersworld.com go to training, click on smart coach (on the left side towards the bottom) and get yourself a training plan TODAY!!!! You MUST follow the plan 90% of the time. You CAN NOT miss a long run. DO THIS OR ELSE!!!!! I know you can do it so darn it get your butt moving.
Karey~ WTG on your run. I know if I go more then 2 days without running I start to feel cruddy. I have to keep running otherwise I will turn into a lazy slob who feels like crap all the time.
I only got a 4 mile run in last night and it wasn't the tempo run I was wanting to have. I took the wrong route and then I ended up getting a bad side ache. I'm sure the side ache was from poor eating lately and the heat. Last night I had a RRR meeting (my running group) and they asked for help so I volunteered to be a pacer. Today is an off day and Sat. I will run 12.
Morning Ladies:
Jess: Sorry about your mother but you need to remember to take care of yourself. Sewing is so cool! My mom taught me how to sew when I was 10 and the machine was so old it had a treadle to make it go! I actually did sewing as a business for many years, weddings, proms, and I designed dance costumes for a school that was always going into competitions and didn't want to run the risk of another group having the same costume. It's good to keep your hands busy instead of picking up junk food!
Karey: I've been lifting for so many years that I really don't remember how it all started...Well, I kinda do. My brother set up a fantastic gym in our basement and when I was about 13 he needed extra weight on the bar for inverted squats so I sat on the bar! This is a really good link to a fantastic lifting site. They even give little videos of how the lift should go. I do a very split workout....chest/back/shoulders/deltoids on night and then legs/arms another night. But now I'm doing more of a split chest /back/shoulders, then deltoids/arms, then legs alone. It seems to be working for me. But, I'm soooo not a runner...but I can walk forever :)
Sherry: Just keep trying over and over til you get it right. Do Not Give Up! Think how fabulous you'll feel about completing that run! Think about how hard it was to just move around before you lost all that weight! And now a half marathon is within your sight...Go For It! Make us proud!
Cassie: Girl, you just amaze me...you really got bit by that running bug! Isn't it great when you find something that's good for you and you even enjoy doing it! That's how I am about lifting. The fact that I can lay down on a bench and lift 2 - 50lb dumb bells over my chest totally amazes me, and I'm an old broad!
I'm sure I've missed somebody and I'm sorry about that but I don't remember what was on the previous page.
I've had a tough week food wise. Do fine while I'm awake then get hit with sleep-eating. But last night was an ok night...not toooo much sleep eating.
I know my main problem is not getting real food into me. I was so good about it when I wa in my own house in NC. Cooking on weekends and freezing "to go" packs for my lunches. Everytime I go to cook in my father's kitchen, I have to clean everything because of sticky spots, crumbs, drips, smears, and stuff you don't even want to know about. By then, who has the energy or desire to cook.
This week I've been living on peanut butter stuffed celery and pb stuffed apples and my stomach is not happy about it at all. I have constant gas pains shooting through my stomach and upper abdominal cavity. I desperately need a place of my own. But with the economy about to crash, my house is never going to sell and I'll never be on my own again.
I'm at work so I better get back to it. I hope everyone has a good weekend :)
Cassie~ I totally know what you mean. If I don't keep exercising or running and stop for a day or two, I feel like crap and don't really want to do it anymore. Wow, I'm amazed at how much running you do!
Joan~ Thanks, I will definitely check out the link to the lifting site. I need all the help I can get... I'm always wondering if I'm doing it right, lol. Don't want to hurt myself.
Well, gotta get going... off to lunch at Panera Bread - yummy place! Hoping to maybe try out some new lifting stuff tonight. =) TTYL!
GOt up this morning at 7 and got out of the bed and put on my clothes and actually made it out to my truck and drove into town and walked/jogged my 6 miles!!!!! I'm so proud of myself, it took me 1 hour and 10 minutes, that I can live with especially since I have not been doing much at all. I came home ate a bowl of oatmeal and a cup of coffee, now to be good the rest of the day, I have felt awful but I know it's because of the way I have been eating so it's up to me to be good.
Cassy- that really hit me when you said I would be miserable and I thought you knwo I have to get back on track so hopefully I can stick with it, who would have thought I would feel so much better when I do run....our minds are strange things. I run out of daylight time during the week to get the whole 12 miles in. Also, will it help me just as much if I'm doing distance on the elliptical? I don't know how that transfer to actually jogging? Can you help me there? I need to redo my route also, it's too many turns and all I would like more straight areas. I'm amazed at how far you have come and stuck with it, you are great!!!!
Joan- I have yet to get heavier weights for my arms, one day I will I just don't think about it until I have left the store. WOW 50lb on each arm, and here I'm just doing 3 pounds!!!! I have to get my eating on track too, I have been really bad alot here lately and I feel yuck!!! I wish things would fall in place for you, either your house sell or find a job that would allow you to move out of your dad's house....I keep saying a prayer. NOt sure about the night eating...I don't know that I have ever heard anyone do that.
Karey- it's that drained feeling that causes us all trouble we stop for a couple days and then we can't get back started don't let the little thing take hold of you!!!! Keep moving, you are doing great.
Sherry~ Good job on the six miles!! Wow! =)
Just got through with 20 minutes doing the elliptical and then 20 minutes in bike position, hoping to jog tomorrow night, but am glad I did something, eating was okay not great but better than I have been doing. I am going to do my arms here in a minute.
Joan~ 50lbs dumb bells, you rock!!!! I was happy when I was up to 25lbs on the smith machine, and that was a single bar with 25lbs of wieght. Really hope things start falling back together for you. You really deserve more then what you have right now.
Karey~ I've worked up my mileage to the point where I feel bad if I don't run at least 25 miles a week, is that sad? I guess I will be really ready when training season starts in Jan.
Sherry~ glad you are getting yourself back on track, now next Saturday run 7 miles. My recomendation for you is to run 3-5 miles two or three days during the week and then do your long longs on Saturday or Sunday morning. Your elliptical is a great cross trainer and yes it does help build some endurance but it will not help you be able to run farther or faster. My weekly schedule is this: Mon- 5m intervals, Tue-Cross train (should do weights), Wed- 3-7m, Thur- 5m tempo, Fri-off (should do weights), Sat- long run, Sun-off, for me I run 25-35 miles per week. You should be running a lot less, if you can build up to around 20-25 you will be doing GREAT!!. For routes go to usatf.org and you can search for other peoples routes or to map your own route. How far out if your half marathon?
I got my 12 mile run in on Sat. if felt really good. Sunday felt like an eat feast all day, YUCK!! I had a bowl of oatmeal before we left for church. Then at church they had a pancake feed to raise money for habitate for Humanity. After church we went to hubby's aunts, for his g-mas birthday. After we left there we went over to one of our daycare kids house for their birthday party for burgers and all the fixings and extras. Today I have to get back to eating extra good, want to really lose a few pounds. I've been sitting at this same weight for ever, maintaining is good but I want to lose and maintain at a lower weight.
Trying to get back on track is easier than staying on track that's for sure, I'm trying to cut down on my coffee....last week I went crazy drinking coffee but I was in all day meetings so that was part of it, I am back to 2 cups a day.
Cassy-thanks so much for the tips!!! I can do the 3-5 miles easy during the week....and then the longer ones on the weekends!!! The half marathon is 13 miles I think. You are still amazing to me.
I weighed this morning and it was not pretty back to 146, I want to stay under 145 closer to the 140 range:) I feel bloated I'm afraid my body is starting for ttotm yet again, I think I'm still out of whack since I have taken the bc pills. Hopefully with getting my eating and exercising back on track I'll see some difference. Just got to stay focused.
Raisin Bran for breakfast and cup of coffee with ff french vanilla creamer
snack- pretzel sticks (I counted out a serving)
lunch is going to be soup (chicken and long grain rice-campbells healthy request) and a cup of mandarin oranges
supper I have a deer roast in the crock pot and will add the potatoes when I go home at lunch and then I will have plenty of time to go walk/jog tonight.
snack- maybe sugar free fat free pudding (if I'm hungry)
Trying to get back in line, man it's hard.
Cassie: sounds like you had a very busy weekend! OMG, I haven't had pancakes in years! I use to make blueberry ones for my kids all the time. Pancakes and burgers! Good thing you ran 12 miles!
Sherry: I think staying on track is easier than gettting back on it! It seems like those bc pills are wrecking havoc with your system. I hope it straightens out soon. Now just keep running...Run Sherry run!
Karey: I swear by that site. It gives me all kinds of alternative lifts so my workouts don't become boring and my muscles remain challenged. It's wonderful to be strong!
My father cleaned the kitchen (See my journal for details) and I got to cook yesterday! I cooked up some very ripe homegrown tomatoes into a soup and added mushrooms and lots of shrimp....YUMMMMM had it for lunch...Also grilled some chicken breast and sauted a bunch of veggies...I have 7 containers of lunches in the freezer!!!! I need to get back to what worked for me! Now if the kitchen will just stay clean!
Still no word on the job and my house hasn't sold...but I had "real" food for lunch!
Grab on ladies, I'm climbing back on the wagon!
Hey girls!
Cassie~ Wow, 25 miles - I am amazed! I probably average only about 12-15 miles a week, which is quite a bit for me, lol.
Sherry~ I feel your pain about the being bloated, lol. My body always seems like it's preparing for totm, but it never comes regularly anymore. Haven't had it in over a month... just wish it'd come and get it over with already. My body is always out of whack when I'm not on BC (can't because the hormones make me a moody maniac, lol). Been feeling irritable and bloated for a while *sigh*
Joan~ Thanks again for the link! I looked at it the other day and took a few exercises from there and incorporated them into the routine I was doing. My upper back and neck have been so sore lately, so I'm assuming I hurt myself somehow. I guess I'll have to be extra careful when I lift again to make sure I'm doing it correctly.
I did really well yesterday... I ran in the morning and finished my Couch to 5k Program!! I'm so proud of myself. =) I kept going and jogged/walked briskly for quite awhile and ended up going 6.25 miles and burning about 570 calories. I ate pretty healthy too. Today I'm doing pretty good, but my head is killing me!! I had some fillings done at the dentist on Thursday afternoon and my mouth hurts, keeps giving me headaches from the throbbing pain. Going to try to get motivated to do some lifting later, hopefully.
Yeah for me!!! Good eat day and I didn't have my snack...so I feel pretty good and I went jogging tonight I say that because I was able to jog the WHOLE 3 MILES!!!! I never thought I would do the whole 3 miles but I did, I just took it at a steady pace, tomrrow I think I'll do 5 miles, I drove a different route that I like better and I know where to jog to get my extra 2 miles and I think I can do it, I'm sure not jog the whole 5 miles but hopefully I can do the 3 miles tomorrow again, I'm just amazed still but I'm happy.
Sounds like we are trying to all get back on track...let's just take it a day at a time and we can all do it together!!!!!
LADIES WE ROCK!!!!!
Good MOrning Ladies...
I'm glad to see some positive happenings going on here!
Karey, is you back/neck injury hurting or or exercise sore? My shoulders and arms were positively killing me last week from lifting....Sorry about the headaches from you billings...don't get me started with dental problems! Be careful not to hold your breath when lifting, that will increase the pressure in you head!
Sherry: YAY for you, double YAY! Now just keep going with those positive actions and thoughts! You CAN do this...
I had a great leg workout last night in a gym that felt like a tropical rain forest....hot/humid doesn't begin to describe it...After 35 min on the elliptical, I was positively dripping....Food was well controlled yesterday, loved the soup!
Been a disappointing morning. The couple who were so interested in my house over the weekend that they requested a copy of the deed and utility charges have not returned my agents call....boooo And I found out that I didn't get the job I interviewed 3 times for! I'm trying to get some feedback on where I fell short but nobody is telling me anything. I'm feeling rather down and hopeless at the moment, but I'm trying to believe that something better is going to come my way. In the meantime I"d like to crawl in a hole and pull the dirt in on top of me.
Have a good day ladies :)
Sherry~ WTG on the 3 miles! *woot, woot!* It feels so good to know that you can run for 3 miles, doesn't it? I just finished the C25k Sunday and ran three miles again this morning. I feel great after! I wish I could find a 5k event on a Sunday that I could run... they all seem to be on Saturdays & I have to work. :(
Joan~ I think I hurt my shoulders/upper back/neck doing some sort of lifting. I did some lifting last night again, but was very careful not to strain them too much. They felt okay after, but when I was running this morning, my right shoulder started hurting. Maybe I'll have to ice it up later. Good job on your leg workout... I'm afraid to work my legs too much since I already have large muscular thighs (don't want them any bigger, lol). Between running and lunges & squats, they're pretty good. Cheer up! Like you said, something better will come along. This job wasn't meant to be. Pick yourself up and go to the gym and exercise... it'll make you feel better about yourself. :)
Joan - yep I am completely addicted to sewing. I love this time of year because there are so many costumes to be made. I am gearing up to go to the Renaissance Festival with a bunch of friends. Every year I insist on dressing everyone up. My list of people to costume has gone to... hmm 8 women and 7 men and 4 kids. Crazy! Next year I probably won't make any more for my general collection since I keep most of them. ... Sewing has been a great distraction, from food and it gives me time to think without too much thinking.
Congrats on being able to cook again!
Jessica~ I wish there was a Ren fest closer to me. The closest one is about a 5 hour from here. I love to sew too, but my sewing machine needs to get fixed right now and i just can't find the extra money since I need to get new tires and probably brakes before winter.
Karey~ hope your shoulder feels better soon. You are doing great with your 12-15 miles a week. WTG in finishing your C25K, either keep your mileage where it's at or continue to slowly add more miles in. It's taken me about a year to build up my mileage to where I'm at.
Joan~ YAY on the cooking, BOO on the house and job situation. Keep your attitude positive, and when your feeling down...go to the gym.
Sherry~ WTG on the 3 full miles. To let you in on a little secret about running. Except for Saturdays I don't run more then 2.5 miles at a time. I will run 2-2.5 miles, walk and take a drink of water then start running again. My breaks aren't longer then 2-3 minutes each but it might help you be able to run farther. I asked when your half marathon was, I know a half marathon is 13.1 miles.
I'm doing pretty good with food and I ran 5 miles yesterday. I made some home made granola bars, they are in the oven right now. They smell really good so I hope they taste that good too. TTOM started today so I guess it's a good thing I've been avioding the scale. I will step on early next week. Hopefully by then I won't feel so bloated. Hope everyone continues to have a great week. Keep up the great work ladies.
Karey- be careful with the lifting, I don't much about it, I'm just using 3 lb. weights right now, I keep forgetting when I'm at wal-mart to pick up heavier ones, I just mainly want to tone my arms:) It's amazing how good I feel after I jog, what an accomplishment that I was able to do it, I'm so proud of you, you are just doing great.
Joan- I hate that the job didn't come through, hopefully the buyers will call again on the house...keeping my fingers crossed for you, bigger and better things to come for you!!! I'm so glad you are getting to cook again, I can tell you already feel better, that soup sounds yummy. How did you work out with the humidty in teh gym I bet you could hardly breathe.
Jess- I sewed when I was younger, made a baby quilt when I was 13, I embroidered the blocks with baby farm animals, hand pieced them together, quilted it by hand and hemmed the edges by hand, that about done me in!!!! I haven't sewn much after that:) I love to see what people have sewn, it's amazing what beautiful things can be done. I like to embroider though. I still think I would like to learn to knit.
Cassy- I'm so stupid!!! I wondered why you asked me what the 1/2 was!!!!! The marathon is in November, I'm not sure the exact date but I'll find out. Let me know how your granola bars turn out I would like the recipe. I love granola bars. I'm still spotting off and on; just trying to get my system back on track from the bc pills, hopefully it will straighten out soon.
Eating was good again today, I was starving this afternoon though but I didn't give in. Breakfast- raisin bran and coffee with creamer, lunch- I went to school and ate with Summer and got a chicken nugget happy meal and got the apple slices with caramel sauce instead of fries, I was still hungry, got back to the bank and had some fresh salsa and a serving of lime chips.....for supper I had a piece of sausage/squash casserole and some potatoes from the roast, I think it will be an oatmeal morning tomorrow.
I got 5 miles in tonight and honestly I was able to jog alomost all of it, I got the whole 3 miles and then part of the 4th mile and then had to walk for maybe a minute and picked back up jogging the rest of the 4th mile and then started the 5th mile and probably walked another minute and finished the 5th mile, seems like my time wasn't as good as it was when I did the 6 miles saturday but I'm not complaining I feel like I was on a steady pace, Cassy thanks for the tip of jogging for a bit and then just walking a minute or two that makes me feel better that I'm on the right track, it's amazing how well you can recooperate in that minute of walking.
I will rest tomorrow and maybe do my arms and then jog again Thursday.
Cassie~ Thanks! I ran the 5k again yesterday morning, but kept going a bit longer (about another 5 minutes), so maybe I added another 1/4-1/2 mile or so... I guess I don't really have a plan, just to keep running every other day or so for exercise.
Sherry~ Wow, you go girl! You are definitely on that wagon now! Running 5 miles is really good, you should be proud! Sounds like the eating is under control too! Just curious, do you count calories?
Man when I went to bed I was hungry....I can say I haven't actually felt hungry in a while. I had oatmeal for breakfast, got to get me a good snack because I don't go to lunch until 1 today, I'll be starving by then.
It's like a subconscious counting calories, once I hit my weight goal I slacked off on counting, but I routinely eat the same things so I know about what I'm getting, I am back to paying attention to a "serving size" on things....that's what really messes me up:0 I don't mind counting as it really keeps me in check if I feel I need the help I log everything; but so far I've been doing okay.
I hope to get 5 miles Thursday of jog/walk, hope to jog the 3 again and then walk/jog the other 2.
Sherry~ I think the granola bars turned out really well. I used steel cut oats, oat bran, wheat bran, wheat germ to make up 3 C and then added almonds, peanuts, rasins, dark chocolate chips, flax seed (about 1/4-1/2 C of each), and a few scoops of my egg and milk protein podwer. mixed that up all good and I melted 1/2 stick of butter and a can of fat free sweetened condesed milk mixed it all together and put it on a (not greased enough, lol) pan. cooked at 325* for about 30 min. I cut them up into 32 bars, about 125 cal each. Next time I make them i might add a little honey or try a completely different one with applesauce in it.
Karey~sounds like you have a good plan with run every other day, run a little longer if you want but don't do that for every run. Remember the 10% rule, never increase by more then 10% in a week. You can increase by mileage or by time.
I did good for the most part yesterday, supper was flat bread sandwiches from schwan's that are 200 cal each, I had 2 1/2 of them. Today I am so crampy I don't know if I'm going to do my run or not. If the cramps go away I will, otherwise it's not worth a misserable run. I don't want to stand or sit up, let alone run 5 miles. But if the cramps go away I know I'll feel better if I run. Did good for breakfast and lunch today. Guess I should log everything and make sure I'm holding myself on track. Oh, I also got out my dumb bells (only 5lbs) last night and did some arm and core stuff last night. Going to try really hard to do more weights or yoga on Tuesday's and Friday's since they are off running days.
How can I stop binging after 6 o'clock?
When you think of binging, check to see whether or not you are hungry - and if you are hungry, then eat! Binging can result from dropping... Read more
