Looks like everyone is really trying to get back on/stay on the program! YAY us.
Sherry: I'm sooo glad to see you're really trying to stick with it. YAY :)
Cassie: Even at only 125 cals, I don't dare make those bars cause I know I would eat the entire pan in one sitting! Cramps suck...take the day off and feel better.
Karey, I know you didn't ask me but I counted calories for my entire 55 lb weight loss. LOL I counted each and every grape and almond! LOL I even weighed my raw spinach! I haven't been able to weigh anything since I moved in April cause my food scale is packed in one of about 80 boxes! And of course it's the one thing I didn't label on the outside of the box. But after 9 months of weighing and counting and logging I pretty much know how many calories I'm consuming, now that I'm being good again...During my "bad" time I knew I was consuming thousands and thousands...Now I'm back to around 1200-1300 a day which is exactly where I need to be.
Almost gave into the candy temptation last night. Was feeling very low about the job/house situation and found chocolate Halloween temptations every 2 feet in the grocery store after the gym...But I was strong...YAY me! But boy was my mouth watering.
Weight is definitely going down. And I know I'm being good cause I'm trotting to the bathroom all night again!
Keep it healthy ladies :)
Cassy- that recipe sounds yummy....like Joan I would probably eat the whole pan!!! I hope you are feeling better.
Joan - I read your journal and honestly held my breath while you were in the candy isle!!! I am so proud of you for overcomnig the temptation that is great.
Kept eating under control yet again today...thank goodness. I ran to wal-mart before work this morning and bought some 100 cal bags of microwave popcorn and a box of fiber one granola bars, the peanut butter ones:) I had some popcorn about 11:30 I didn't go to lunch until 1 but I didn't have any snacks after that, was good until supper and did okay then, about to go work my arms some, no jogging tonight will go tomorrow and do at least 5 miles again and hopefully 7 or 8 Saturday...
The marathon is November 1st.....I so thought it was like mid november!!!YIKES!!!
Cassie~ Those granola bars sound awesome... like the others said, I'd probably eat them all at once, lol. I LOVE granola bars and protien bars... yum. 10% each week is for the speed, not distance, correct?
Joan~ Wow, I had forgotten that you had lost so much weight! 55 lbs is very impressive! I know what you mean about weighing every little thing... I have a food scale and weigh my apples, bananas, meat, etc. I just try not to be too obsessive about it, if that's possible for me, lol. I hope that eventually I can trust myself enough not to always count every single thing, but I think it'll be a while yet. Good job on passing up all that Halloween candy! I was in Walmart the other day and the candy isle was calling to me too.
Sherry~ I LOVE the Fiber One granola bars, they're so good! The peanut butter ones are pretty good and the oats and caramel are okay, but my ALL TIME FAVORITE is the Oats and Chocolate=yum! I used to be a huge Kashi tlc Cherry Dark Chocolate fan, but I like the Fiber One Oats and Chocolate so much better. They taste like a candy bar to me and I always look forward to them as a treat. I know, I'm nuts, lol. Oh, did you ever try the new Fiber One muffin mixes?? I just bought the Banana Nut one yesterday... hoping to bake some tomorrow on my day off. :)
Had a horribly long day today... didn't sleep well last night because my body was so sore. :( Had to work all day - groomed in the morning until early afternoon and then worked at the front desk work until closing, which means cleaning & mopping, etc. Didn't get home until close to 7pm and then had to run around and get the dog and cat fed and then had to feed the hubby and I. We were on our way to Subway, but then he suggested going to Cici's for pizza... long story short, I'm ashamed. I gave in and pigged out on pizza and dessert... and then had a smoothie afterwards, lol. I feel so fat, sick, and disgusting. I'm mad at myself. Didn't work out today either because of lack of time and really sore back and arms. Hope tomorrow morning I feel better so I can run or lift since I really need to work this stuff off!
Karey- I haven't tried the oats and chocolate but I will, they are so good, I was a Kashi fan of the trail nut chewy bar, I loved them because they acutally had whole nuts that you could see, I never tried the other ones. Do you have any good stretching exercises you could do to work out some of your soreness? I have the same fear if I go get pizza, I have to have at least 2 slices and pray that I can stop at that!!! It's so hard. It's easier to stay in control when I can stay away from pizza and mexican food.
I did get 30 minutes in of working my arms with my 3 lb weights and some crunches and other stomach exercises so I'm okay with that. Slept pretty good and my eating was okay, no snacking after supper so I'm super happy with myself on that. Hoping to weigh Friday and the number hopefully will be down some.
Will jog tonight if everything goes right see no reason why it shouldn't.
Karey~ 10% in the amount you should increase distancce every week so you decrease chance of injury. It takes times for your bones to be able to handle the increased pounding. I'm not sure what amount you should stay below for speed workouts.
Sherry~ if your half marathon is Nov. 1 then for your long runs the next few weeks I suggest 8m, 10m, 9m, 7m, race. For a first race you don't need to run more then 10 miles. Realize you will probably have to do walking during this race and that's ok. Just think of it as your doing the Gallaway aproach (that's the run/walk... run/walk thought of a race). Best advice I can give you is walk through each water stop that you are drinking at. After one hour of the race switch from water to gaterade (or whatever drink they have), for me I everyother water then, everyother gaterade. If you can look at the race route and figure out where the water stops are and figure out your plan it can really help you out.
Joan~ WTG with keeping your control past all the EVIL candy at the store. I'm sure you feel way better about yourself knowing you kept in control of the situation. I'm not sure why or how I can keep control over the granola bars but I'm able to. Though I probably should have kept the dark chocolate chips out, I find wanting more.
I didn't run yesterday, I was so tired and still crampy so I just sat in bed instead. I'm in my off season so no guilt. Going to run intervals tonight while the boyz are in dance, then 14 mile on Saturday. My sister-in-law is coming up for the weekend for the local College homecoming, not sure if we will be going out or not. It will depend on how much drinking she does during the game. I won't be going to the game so I'll just have to wait and see what goes down.
Sherry~ The Oats & Chocolate are addicting, lol. I did some yoga this morning and it stretched my back and made it feel a bit better... getting a little sore again now though. I agree about the staying away from the pizza and mexican... they're so good. Those two and ice cream are major weaknesses. Good job with the exercise and the no snacking after supper. :)
Cassie~ Okay, the 10% makes sense and I'll try to keep that in mind. Hoping to run the 5k again tomorrow if I'm not too sore. Hope you're feeling better. :)
I felt guilty about my pigout yesterday so I exercised all morning... did all of the strength training and yoga exercises on my Wii Fit, along with the Hula Hoop, Boxing, Basic Step, and Running ones. After all that, I lifted my weights. The yoga felt good though because it gave my back a nice stretch. It felt pretty good most of the day, but now it's getting a bit sore again. Bleh. Hope it's not too sore to run tomorrow morning. I'll cross my fingers.
well the scales were back in my favor even though my body still hasn't made up it's mind if it's ttotm yet, one day it's here the next day it's gone. Weight was 143 1/2 it was just waivering between 143 and 144, which I'm very happy about now to be good this weekend. Tomorrow will do the 8 mile run....makes me tired thinking about it. I did do my 5 miles last night and the wind was up a little so I did a little more walking because it seemed harder to breathe anyway got it done.
Cassy- do I just do a rest day on Sunday and then pick back up on Monday with my 5 miles again, you have been so much help...don't know what I would do without you. The drink stops I think are set up every other mile or so or every mile, our bank used to do a aid station and we dressed up, one year we were inmate in orange and white striped suits and one of the ladies was the sherriff,(her husband was the sheriff so we got to borrow all the stuff from the jail!!!) and one year we were gypsies and had a covered wagon and old wood burning stove out ther cookign chili, we had a great time. Alot of the businesses in town do the aid stations and there is a italian dinner the night before.
Karey - way to go getting those workouts in, I think the Wii is pretty neat I have not seen Wii fit but sounds like it woul dbe good.
Sherry~ Instead of thinking about running 8 miles, break it up. I would think of it as 2.5m, water (and walk) , 2.5m, water, 2m, water, 1m. Sundays and Fridays are good off days. I like to take Sun off to get over being sore from a long run and by Monday I'm barely sore. On Monday 5 miles would be a good mileage. I know how you feel about running and wind, I was doing my intervals yesterday and it was really tough running fast into the wind. My favorite part about a race...is the pasta feed the night before, lol.
Karey~ hope your not to sore to run your 5k tomorrow.
As for me, I ate junk after my run yesterday :( I really have to figure out this running early thing. It seems like I eat so much if I run before supper. I will be running 14m tomorrow, I'm really excited about running that distance again, not really sure why, lol. Next week I will "max" out at my off season mileage of 16. not sure yet as to what the weekend has in mind yet. Just know I'm going to have a house full of in-laws so the eating will not be the best and I may or may not go out drinking. Guess I will just wait and see and make the best out of whatever comes my way.
Have a happy and safe weekend ladies. Remember your plan, whatever it is.
Sherry~ Glad the scales were back in your favor. Good job on your 5 miles last night! =) I really love my Wii and the Wii Fit... I heard later this month Jillian Michaels (tough trainer from The Biggest Loser) is coming out with a fitness game. I really want it.
Cassie~ Did manage to get the 5k done this morning. Good luck on your 14m and have fun with your in-laws. =)
Got up this morning and did some Yoga on my Wii Fit to help stretch my back out. Then I did my 5k run and did a fast walk with a total of almost 5 miles. Been eating healthy today too, despite cravings for bad things, lol. Breakfast was two Special K Red Berries Waffles with sugar free syrup & 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese. Luna bar was my mid morning snack and then lunch was a Gardenburger on light wheat bread with some Kraft Free cheese and some Light Ruffles chips. Afternoon snack was a yummy Fiber One Oats & Chocolate Bar and one of my freshly baked Fiber One Banana Nut muffins. :)
hey all :) I've missed you guys! I've been maintaining at 140 for like 9 months... not a bad thing.. but I'm finally ready to get rid of the last 5-10 pounds that have been making me angry... I'm lifting 3 times a week and doing intense cardio 3 times a week. I'm eating 1500-1800 a day... I started going to a turbo jam class with two friends of mine.. its about 45-50 minutes long and I really like it.. lots of energy, the instructor is awesome.. she's lost 96 lbs! I like it lots.. since I am not a huge fan of cardio, it's good stuff. I also started rollerblading!
hmm.. what else... on the school end of business, I just passed a test at the 180 wpm level.. getting closer to graduation! Hopefully by next summer I'll be done :)
well.. that's it from me :) just kind of getting myself back in here ;) talk to you all soon!
I'm so proud of myself I go the 8 miles in but man am I tired, it's hard for me to think about adding more miles, I think I'll do 5 Monday and then maybe add another mile the next 2 days, I'm just still not believing I got up and done it but I did and it's done and I can be lazy the rest of the day.
I'll post more later and I did okay on my eating last night.
Way to go on the 8 miles, Sherry!! =D
I worked all day... so tired!! Had a crazy dog that tried to attack my leg and then ended up biting my hand later when I was petting her... punctured my finger in two places and she didn't want to give it back, lol. It hurt. Needless to say, she got to wear the muzzle for her entire groom, and her mom had even sedated her an hour before her appointment! Her mom raved about how cute she looked and said I did a great job... so... she'll be baaaack. Not sure how I feel about that yet, lol. Did a yorkie that was having a b-day party today... her mom had me dye her ears pink again, lol. Not an easy task when the dog is super hyper and doesn't sit still. Anyways, too many dog stories. =) Had a meeting after work that was a potluck... bad news. Didn't do too bad though... only sampled a few things and then went out for mexican later. That probably wasn't the best idea, but hey, I had a bad day and it made me feel better (at least that's how I rationalize it to myself).
Hope you guys are having a good weekend!! ;)
Eating wasn't great yesterday but not as bad as I usually do, and Saturday I didn't do too bad. I was lazy yesterday. Will do 5 miles tonight. Had mexican last night but didn't eat all of it, okay almost all of it but I left some:)
Karey- guess that is a job hazard but man that had to hurt! Okay you had to dye the puppies ears!!! That's too cute. I bet your job is very tiring. Hope youar bad news wasn't too bad and that it all works out okay.
Karey~ YAY on your run, 5 miles is a great accomplishment. Sounds like you had an interesting day at work. Watch that bite closely, I had to take a friend to an ER for an IV because of a cat bite when she was a groomer. The cat happened to bite her perfectly on the finger joint and she got an infection stright into her blood stream.
Stacey~ glad to here from you, WTG on your maintaining all this time. Keep up the great work with those wpm tests, you'll get there.
Sherry~ YAY, WTG, great big pat on the back. Now you need to keep your focus on increasing your long runs, not your week day runs. Your long runs are what is going to give you the endurance to make it through your race. Week day runs are mostly just to keep you active and to help you learn speed. One thing you could try would be to run 5m today, and then 4m either tomorrow or Wed., then 3m either Wed. or Thur. give yourself Friday off and then run your 10 miles on Sat. Long distance is just as much a mental challenge as a physical challenge. You need to know in your head that you CAN run the distance.
I survived my weekend with a lot less damage then there could have been, lol. Saturday I ended up running my 14 miles alone, which I kind of enjoyed. I ended up running itfaster then I thought I was going to and ended up doing a great negitive split (ran the second half faster then the first half). Then that night went out with hubby, his brother and his gf for drinks and played some darts. Lots of fun, drank a fair amount but I did not give into the temptation for bar food. Sunday our daughter got her 3rd grade bible from church and we went over to brother-in-laws for lunch. Was out voted and we had KFC, yuck, picked off the skin and made the best of it.
Today I am going back into losing mode (I hope). Back to logging all my food and hopefully I can shed some of this extra weight off before I start back into my training season in January. Today I will run my 5 mile tempo run and then i have my daycare assoc. board meeting at TGIF. I should try to figure out what I'm going to eat there before I get there.
Sherry~ Gotta love the mexican food, lol!
Cassie~ Ever have problems with your shoulders cramping up while running? I think I'm not loose enough when I'm running, because I start running a little ways and then I get cramps in my shoulder, bad enough that I have to reach back and rub them. Lately my upper back has been so sore that I figured I had hurt it while lifting weights, but I've been very careful. I try to keep my arms bent at the elbows and swing them at my sides... should I not do that?
Wow, you ladies have been very chatty since I last popped in...I'm at work and the partners could walk back in from lunch at any minute.
Sherry: I'm soooo proud of you for all that running! And to get through the weekend better than you use to is wonderful. Keep up the great work and youll see great results.
Karey: Ouch! My dog has never been professionally groomed and I know she would be a nervous wreck. I have to follow her around to brush her myself!
Cassie: I'm feeling out numbered with all of you runners!
Just saw the partners go down the hall...
I'll try to be back later :)
Got the 5 miles in tonight and the eating was good today....and man was it a day, I was so tired and could have easily just sat on the couch but I didn't so I feel that was a major thing for me to overcome. I wont' be walk/jog tomorrow but will Wednesday and Thrusday, mom is haveing a Southern Living at Home party tomorrow night; need to stay away from the snacks.
Cassy- got a question yet again....it seems like I'm out of breath like right when I get started what is your secret on breathing? I don't know if I had too much to drink before i went out or what but it was like I never could get my breathing right, I did walk a little more tonight but still got some good jogging in. Way to go on staying away from the bar food, we had a bon fire Saturday night and I had a hot dog and few doritos, Summer got to feeling so bad I never got my smores:(
Had to take Summer to the doctor today, she has a sinus infection but woke up wtih 101.9 fever and therefore couldn't go to school and her cough sounded so congested didn't want to take the chance of it getting worse, lots of strep throat and stomach virus floating around here, hope I don't get any of it.
Stacey- WTG, sounds like life is treating you good and that's always great to hear...hope things stay on track for you, girl you are a typing fien!!!!
Karey- my left shoulder does that sometimes, I have to really concentrate on relaxing my shoulders!!!! Cassy is our running expert!!!!
Joan- I wish I could get my arms more toned so I really need to focus on that, you are amazing to me what all you can lift!!! I still feel like I have a long way to go on getting the walking/jogging thing down pat. I'm hoping to stay focus the rest of this month......the race is November 1st, surely I can be good to myself until then.
There is a italian dinner the night before the race but it just hit me that ithe night before the race is Halloween so not sure that I will be getting to go to the dinner, it's a wait and see type thing..... sorry I have been all over the place tongiht, it was a crazy day at work, ended up taking Summer to work with me....that in itself made for a long day but she was good, tomorrow she is going to my mom's.
good morning :)
tomorrow is my weigh-in day for my 10-pound weight loss challenge! I feel really good and I don't want a number to determine my mood.. but I'm so anxious and have been working so hard! sticking to 1500-1800 (1500 on sedentary days, 1600 on weight lifting days, 1800 on cardio days) and have been working out very well.. cross your fingers for me!
sherry- you are turning in to quite the runner! that is awesome!! I still only jog once in a blue moon... not sure why I dislike it so much.. I love rollerblading though! good luck with the party/snacks, you can do it!
cassy- good job resisting all the gross tempations over the weekend! kfc? bar food?? you rock!
karey- isn't the same as your problem exactly, but when I jog my shoulders bother me. I have no idea why.. just thought I'd share :)
joan- I've been keeping up with your journal; I'm so happy to hear that you're making the best of everything! good job!!!!
well.. that's it from me for now.. I'll talk to you all soon!
Karey~ sounds like your form is pretty good, they say your elbows should be at a 90* angle. I have to take a moment every couple miles and do a check to make sure that I'm keeping my shoulders, arms and everything loose. What I do while running is shrug my shoulders a couple times and even shake out my arms a bit. For running you have to have a string core, so make sure you are doing some core strengthening (back, stomach, shoulders).
Joan~ it's ok that you don't run, we need you for the weight training questions. Doesn't matter what a person does for cardio, strength training is important too.
Sherry~ my breathing sercets aren't really secrets, lol. I start out really slow and increase my speed. I read in a book that for long runs your breath should come in over 3 foot strikes and out over 2-3 foot strikes. If you are breathing faster then try to slow down your speed without walking.
Stacey~ if you have an unusually high number tomorrow it should make it easier to lose the ten pounds, ;) You will do great just gotta stick to your guns.
I did really well yesterday. I ate good yesterday, I did have a few bites of ice cream and brownie at TGI Friday's but I shared the desert and had less then half of it (total daily calories about 1600). I did get my 5 mile run in, though it ended up not being a tempo run. I ran a lot slower, not to worried about it since it was sprinkling and chilly. If my intervals are slow on Thursday then I'll start to wonder. Today is an off running day so going to keep the calories down there, going to do some core/stretching stuff for sure and might even take out the dumb bells and do some arm stuff.
Joan~ Hope everything is going better for you.
Sherry~ Sounds like you're doing great training for your race, keep it up!
Stacey~ Good luck with your weigh-in tomorrow! I always hate it when I don't see the number that I want, then I'm in a bad mood the rest of the day, lol.
Cassie~ Is it possible to push your shoulders back too much? Maybe that's what I do... not sure. I'll try your suggestion of shaking them out and I'll try stretching them more before. I know my core is pretty strong because I do ab exercises and the plank exercise, push ups, etc. Good job on the eating!
I worked all day and then did the grocery shopping and made dinner... came on here, talked to my sister while typing and watching the debate. Left no time for my running. Hoping to get that in tomorrow morning. Eating was good though!
