Cassie~ Aww, thanks!! :) I think that is so cool that you and your sister-in-law are so close. I'm not close w/my sister-in-law at all (we get along though), but I have a sister and I wish we were closer... she lives in WI and I'm currently living in FL, so it's hard. But, we're going on the cruise together in April and I am so excited! We're gonna have fun! I hope you have a great time for your b-day this weekend! I love Coldstone... can't remember the last time I had it though! Enjoy! Happy Birthday!!!
Sherry~ Hope you're doing okay w/all that ice! Hopefully you have power! I have been feeling so blah lately too... not sure what the deal is. Maybe it's PMS or something. Been wanting to eat everything too. Okay, time to pull up your big girl panties!!! LOL
Hoping that I get out of my little funk soon and stop wanting to eat everything! I also need to get more motivation again when I'm lifting... not sure if I'm pushing myself hard enough, but don't want to hurt myself either. I pigged out at a pizza buffet tonight, so hopefully I got that out of my system... fresh start tomorrow.
Karey~ if you are feeling sore the day after your lifting then you are pushing yourself enough. As far as the wanting to eat everything in sight....your body might need to get the extra calories. if your not gaining then maybe you need to let yourself go into maintenance for a few weeks. I always seem to be extra hungry around that PMS/period time so maybe that's all it is too.
Sherry~ glad you guys didn't get hit to bad with the ice. We don't get ice a lot up here but we have gotten several inches of ice...it can be scary. We seem to lose our power at least 2-3 times during the winter for several hours, we really should invest in a generator. Now here's your pep talk!!! Remember how you feel after that workout? Remember how you felt good and refreshed (and maybe a little good tired)....well if you don't motivate yourself you won't feel that. We all feel like crap when we are being lazy...you have to motivate inorder to feel good.
Yesterday I did my 5 mile tempo run. I was wondering if my day was going to go down hill from there tho. When I got done running my auto start thingy wouldn't work, couldn't unlike my van, couldn't start it nothing. So my husband had to drive in just to push the stupid unlock button (since I always lock the keys in my van and just carry the fob). Talked to my brother-in-law (my mechanic) and he has no idea what's wrong with it. So...I'm back to the old fashion way of starting my van :( and it's still really cold outside, pout!!!
Tomorrow I run 12 miles in the morning, I'm getting my hair cut at 3:30pm and I'm going out to eat at one of the local italian places, Santa Lucia's, before hitting the bars for lots-o-drinking, lol. So I'm sure I'm going to have a ton of calories that I injest....but I'm going to start out the day burning about 1500. Plus birthday calories don't count....right? ;P LMAO
Cassy~ I feel a little sore/achy the day after my workout, but maybe not as sore as I should be? I'm going to try to push myself harder tonight when I lift and see how it goes. I've been eating maintenance calories since mid September, but lately it seems like my body just wants more. Maybe it is PMS... or the lifting just makes me hungrier. I'm hoping for the PMS. lol
That's was a good pep talk for Sherry! Good job on all the running, wow! That sucks about your auto start not working! When I lived in WI I had it on my car and LOVED it. I would be across the street inside work and could start it from there and have it warmed up by the time I got out there. Hope you can get your brother-in-law to fix it, or maybe you can get a new one for your b-day?
Good luck w/your 12 mile run! Enjoy getting your hair cut and going out to eat... I love Italian. I actually just got back a little while ago from getting my hair trimmed (I actually like it for once! they always cut it too short). I'm sure you'll have a great time... you'll look good w/your fresh new haircut and be feeling good from your run. I think you'll be fine w/your 1500 calorie burn in the morning... besides, b-day calories don't count! LOL
As for me... doing well today. Very drained and tired feeling, but have been eating very healthy, drinking lots of water. Going to go and plan out my lifting workout later and maybe stop and buy a couple more weights. Seems like you can never have enough. Got my hair trimmed after work today... it's been a long time since I had it cut because they cut it WAY too short last time and I hated it. It's finally grown out a bit, but was a mess and needed to be evened out and shaped up some. Now it's kinda like a short little bob. A guy cut it this time and I think he did the best job... guess i just needed to get a guy to do it. lol
Happy Birthday Cassy!!! =)
Haapy Birthday Cassy!!!! Have a great time!!!! WTG on your runs...good job, also thanks for the pep talk, now I need to listen and do something:)
Karey, I need a hair cut so bad, I just don't know what I want to do to it, I like short hair on me and I just need to get it cut...I wish I could go to someone and they say okay we have got to do this to your hair it will look great, is that person out there for curly hair!! I need to get some more weights, all I have is 3 pounds weights....yeah that's a little childish:) I could definitely get at least 8 pounds:) I just don't think about it until I'm back home.
I think I'll start back just doing the bicycle position on my elliptical, the elliptical position kills my knees...I think I'm not doing it right but if I do the bicycle at a good tension and then various other exercises and my weights I think that would be good until it's warm enough to go out.....we will see if I can stick to it.
I think in October I'm going to buy a 6 month member ship to the gym to carry me through the winter months and hopefully beat this blah next time....
The ice is gone but I think they are talking about some more coming in tomorrow, I hope it goes away:) Parts of Arkansas are declared disaster areas and parts had like 4 inches of ice....so not good, wonder why we just can't get plain snow? Snow and ice just cripples us because we don't know what to do when we get it!!!
Going to Pump It Up for my nephews 8th birthday party today....sinus pressure has given me a heck of a headache so I will not be jumping and sliding....took meds, thought I was feeling much better yesterday..oh well. Got to get up and vacuum we have company coming tonight to watch the UFC fight...
Cassy~ Hope you enjoyed your B-day & the free b-day calories! =)
Sherry~ Try looking around online for hairstlyes you like and bring a couple w/you when you go to get it cut. Just make sure it's realistic and they have curly hair like you, etc. I wish I had curly hair. :( If you have a Play It Again Sports by you, just go in there and get some used weights. They're pretty reasonable... that's what I do. I just bought two 20 pound plates yesterday for around $24. You could just get some plain dumbells and just get 4 of the 2-1/2 lb plates (to make 5 lbs on ea) and maybe 4 of the 5 lb plates to do 10 lbs each dumbell. That would give you a little versatility for a bit. I think doing the bicylce position on your elliptical is a good start too, so much better than doing nothing. My knees get sore too, mostly my left one when I try to run. The membership starting in October sounds like a good plan too, to keep you active during the cold months. Hope your ice goes away soon!! That darn ice can be so dangerous.
My lifting workout rocked last night! I pushed myself harder and squated 3 sets/10 reps each of 60 lbs plus the barbell on my shoulders. I've been afraid of hurting my back and staying around 40 lbs, but I can definitely do more and am able to go all the way down. :) I felt WONDERFUL after that workout last night and am a little sore today, but not bad. A good workout can work wonders.
Okay tonight I plan on doing the bike for at least 30 minutes and then various other exercises with my weights, I think I will look for some this weekend....the pants I have on today, well let's say I have a little extra hanging over the waist.....not pretty but they are already ironed...maybe that's what I needed to have a wake up call....breakfast raisin bran and 1/2 banana.....lunch will probably be soup.
I am finally done with my qualifier exam! 2 months of studying and eating my feelings are finally over! I took the exam Thursday night, allowed myself two celebratory dinners (crab cakes and steak that night and cottage pie at an Irish place the next night with all my colleagues) and now I am getting back into a grove. I ran twice this weekend and hopefully I can get another run in this week. I started to set up a training schedule to work my way up in mileage and decided I am going to first work my way up to running 10 miles total in a week... whether it is 5 - 2 mile runs or 4 - 2.5 mile runs or whatever and see if I can up mileage just for the pure fact that I don't want to worry about running every day :)
Cassy- Happy birthday! ( a little late)
Karey- I've been eating like mad lately... mainly because of stress but partly because I just got used to eating everytime I turned around. If your stomach isn't growling, maybe you are just looking for the comfort of food? Congrats on finding the sweet spot with the weights.
Thx for the birthday wishes....I had a lot of fun!!!!!!
Jessica~YEAH on getting that exam done. If you are having troubles coming up with a running plan, runnersworld.com has an awsome smart coach trainer. You put in how many miles you run per week (lowest is 6) and how hard you want to train and it puts a plan together for you. I use it for my marathon training.
Sherry~ Hope you cna keep you motivation, I have the muffin top syndrome right now too. But mine is from all the alcohol I've had the last couple of weeks.
Karey~sounds like you have found your happy lifting limits. Nothing like some good sweat and a good burn to make a person feel great.
I didn't get my run in yesterday but I did it this morning instead. Though I only ran 4.15 miles (supposed to be 5) but my stomach and legs were getting so cold that they hurt and since it was -15* this morning I didn't want the frostbite to set in. I will do stregth this afternoon. Tomorrow is cross training. Now that my birthday is done and over with I NEED to get back into the grind and eat and do healthy stuff. Need to look sexy in a 2-piece the first weekend in April (long story).
I get my hair done today!!!!!! Style will probably basically be the same, it's curly hair there is only so much I can do...one day I'll accept that!! But who knows what color I'm going to end up with, I think some red..that's what Scott wants so who knows!!!!
Eating was good yesterday still no exercise I've just been tired but I think the weather is supposed to be better this weekend so THERE IS NO REASON I CAN"T GET OUT AND WALK....I just need to remember that.
Cassey- I just can't imagine running in that temp....I know you are more used to it but still....I guess it's probably a different cold than we have in Arkansas...I'm just definitely not a cold weather person...you rock!!
Karey- you are going to be so buff when you get ready for your trip!! Post lots of pics, oh and I loved the pics of the dogs on Facebook, my daughter Summer has talked about wanting to do grooming when she gets bigger, she is only 9 now so things could change but hey if it makes her happy.
Jess- WAY TO GO!!! So glad you have that behind you, sounds like you have yourself a good plan on the walking/jogging....I think that's what I need to do too.
When I did the half marathon a man there told me to start at the begining of the year and start keeping up with what I jogged walk everyday and at the end of the year I would be amazed; well I won't have anything for January but maybe I can kick it in gear for February!!!!
Cassy- thanks for the tip on runner's world. It is a much better schedule for me than the one I was thinking of doing. I have plenty of time to up my mileage because the race I want to do isn't until October but I still wanted a schedule to follow so that I don't slack off. Though walking into school today makes me wonder... it is SO COLD today. I don't know how you run at -15!
Sherry- I feel the same way. I did nothing in January :( February is going to be a completely different story though!
I am getting that motivation back for myself and have been seeing lower numbers everyday instead of the usual fluctuations up and down and even the steady increase of the last 2 months. I'm eating reasonably and I am getting some exersize in. I just might be back on track! Now, if only I could get motivated to do my work!
Sherry~ different type of cold, you make me laugh. I think there is only two types of cold....cold and F-ing cold, LMAO. You will feel better if you get your ass moving so do it damn it!!!!! Put yourself a schedule together already and just make yourself do it.
Jessica~ glad you like the website. I'm actually using there training plan over the one I paid for for my training class. But with the training class I get classroom seasons and weekly group runs. If your run isn't until Oct. you got plenty of time but it'll be a lot easier if you get your "base" miles up there. There is a reason most of the people who win marathons are in their mid/late 30's...it takes time to get the base miles you need to train right.
As for me....haven't done the best on eating. This week I have gotten my runs in but not my cross training or my strength training. I have been so tired and then my monthly "friend" came as well. Next week is a mileage drop week so hopefully I get myself back on par then. They are talking warmer temps for us...yeah upper 20's and 30's. I'm so ready for spring....to bad it's still several months away for us but at least the consistant colder temps should be done *fingers crossed.*
Well my hair is red!! I love it, not so over the top red, it was colored a rich chocolate and then red highlights, I was told it looked exoctic, but it's not so over the top from my natural color, I'm really happy with it:)
Now to get some walking/jogging in this weekend.
Hey Girls!
What ever happend to Joan?? Hope she's doing okay...
Cassy~ Glad you had fun on your b-day! I can't believe you're out there running in that cold!!! You're nuts! It's been freezing here lately... we actually had a hard freeze last night and it got down to about 25 degrees! Brr!! So, do you want to share your story about the 2-piece in April? I guess we're both aiming to look hot in our 2-pieces in April - my cruise is the 20th of April. :)
Jes~ Congrats on finishing your exam!!! Glad to hear you're back on track and into running! You and Cassy will be our runners...
Sherry~ What happened? I thought you were going to exercise?? C'mon, you can do it! Just hop on the bike for 15 minutes to start with and you'll feel so good! I'm glad your daughter likes my dog pics on Facebook... that's so cute she wants to be a groomer. :) It's a great job, but takes a lot of physical work, getting dirty, and patience (and skill and a steady hand of course!). Also helps to be a bit creative and artistic. ;) Your hair sounds so pretty! I want to see a pic!
I've been working like crazy lately... been so busy all the sudden the last few days at work. I've been getting a tad burnt out. I finally have a day off tomorrow and i"m so excited! I'm so tired of dematting and brushing out people's dogs that they neglect, but they don't want them shaved.. they want then "fluffy", but they won't ever take care of them! Ugh! Have they ever heard of brushing their dog!? Sometimes i just want to bop them over the head. lol
Went for dinner at Subway and then we went for dessert (hubby's idea!) at Baskin Robbins. I was kind of good, I had 2 scoops of the low fat/sugar free ice cream. It's actually really good! It all fit into my day's calories too. :) Today was a rest day and tomorrow I'm going to lift and do some HIIT on my treadmill.
Scale still said 145, I really don't know how but I'm not going to change it! LOL!! In my mind I think well if you have exercised it mightwould have been like 143 or so.....oh well, will get back on track eventually.
I love my hair I'm going to try to post a pic....it's hard to get the lighting right so you can see the pretty red, she said she used chocolate on the bottom and then paprika and fireworks for the highlights which are mainly on top...I love it, stopped by the bank and one of the ladies said it looked exotic, however exotic curly hair can be!!!!
Karey- be proud of your self for picking the better for you ice cream, shows you have come a long way....I honestly couldn't imagine being a groomer, I think it would be a little scary. We were going to get our cats de-clawed this week because they have torn up the sides of my loveseat....my fault I guess....we had the appointment made and everything and the we decided we just couldn't do that to them...last night I would give Chloe a treat and try to trim her nails it worked!!! So maybe she won't associate getting her nails trimmed as a bother to her, we can't hold her she's to fat and wants to try to bite you!!
Hope everyone has a great weekend, tongiht going to the mall to get colby a pair of dress pants and shirt for a valentine's banquet, we will eat out so I hope I can make a good decision:) Then tomorrow Colby's girlfriend is coming to our house for the first time....I'm so not ready for all of this, he's only 14, it's scary how much younger kids are doing things these days.....but we have decided we ouwld rather them be with us and we know what they are doing because if we keep them from seeing each other they will start sneakign to do it.
I think they are calling for rain tomorrow I'm really hoping to be able to go walk tomorrow even if it's only a mile, there is a subdivision a mile from my house and I know one of the ladies that live there and I can park and walk around it, the subdivision is a mile long, it makes a large circle and is very hilly so it will be great!!! Now it just doesn't need to rain in the morning.
Sherry~ that weight must be your bodies "happy place." Your hair sounds like food, lol. Exercise darn it. I'm having the oposite problem...good exercise, bad food choices.
Karey~ WTG on the ice cream choice, and staying within your calories!!!
I will get myself back on track this weekend. I'm afraid to even step on the scale. I'm sure it's not horrible but I know it's up.
Oh......the having to wear a 2-piece story. Not sure if any of you are familiar with Science fiction conventions, known as Con's....anyways some of my friends are starting a new Con up here known as Core Con. It will be the first weekend in April. I'm on the board you could say and one of the guys stated that in the one gaming room there will be a hot tub. A gaming room is a room where there are a bunch of board type games that people can bring in and play in a large group. Anyways it was brought up that there should be "hot chicks" in bikini's sitting in the hot tub. Well I was volunteered as one of those hot chicks, so know I need to get into 2-piece bathing suit shape.
Tomorrow I have a 14 mile run, no other major plans. Will be getting groceries from the grocery store and not Wal Mart this week so I will be able to buy a bunch of produce. I just have to put together a meal plan for the week and stick to it. Between that and logging my food again hopefully I can get back on track this week.
Have a fun weekend ladies and stick to the plan!!
Sherry~ I agree with Cassy, the 145 area must be your bodies favorite area to stay around. So, were you able to get back on track and get some exercise in?? Did you make it and walk around the subdivision? Hope so! Something is sure better than nothing. Your hair sounds pretty cool! Hopefully you can post a pic so we can admire it. As for the cat's nails... they also make a product called "Soft Paws", or Soft Claws that is nail caps that go over the nails so they don't scratch everything up. It's another option.
Cassy~ Where you able to get back on track w/the food? I hate that feeling of dread about the scale when you know it's going to be more than you want to see... sucks. Hey, look at you, miss hot chick that gets to hang out in the hot tub! Woot!! Must feel good to be nominated for that role. :) Is there anything special you're planning to do to get into bikini shape?? Just curious, because I've been trying to figure out how to make myself look better for my bikini in April. It's mostly that darn tummy area that needs to be worked on. Stubborn tummy! I think it's bloated though because I haven't had totm in quite awhile.. also, I'm not sure, but I think my eating a high protein diet has made it puff out some too. I hope it's not the extra calories from the lifting adding fat there instead. I'm building some nice muscle in my arms and legs, but I'm worried about the middle. :(
Any of you see the movie "Coraline" yet? I saw it today w/some friends from work and it was pretty cute. I like the Tim Burton movies though, so if you don't like them, don't see it. I was a bad girl though and had a box of Dots and some Mike and Ikes, plus a Coke Zero. Tummy was a bit disgruntled after that, but I had fun. Not very often that I do that anyway. After the movie we all went to Starbucks and hung out. I wasn't too bad... had a Skinny Cinnamon Dolce Latte (130 cals), which is one of my favs there. I'm surprised I'm not bouncing off the walls right now, lol! I'll start over fresh again tomorrow, but all in all, the cals weren't too bad today considering all the junk food and sugar.
Hope you all had a good weekend!
Karey~ I think I have a hold of the food demon and beat it into control...at least for now, lol. I think I was nominated for the hot tub because most of the other females are about 50 (or more) pounds over weight. So this skinny thing and I are the ellected ones. I'm not changing up anything to look better in the bikini, I have never had a flat stomach so I'm not going to try to get one now after 3 kids. I figure most of the poeple at the convention are parents and most are slightly over weight so if I don't have the perfect body it won't be a big deal. You need to allow yourself to induldge now and then it's what keeps us from going off the deep end.
I did a 7 mile run yesterday, the last 2 of them in rain and wind. Today I didn't get my butt out of bed for cross training but I'm going to do my strength training in a little bit here. Tomorrow I might go for a 2-3 mile run otherwise I'll do some cross training. So far I've done pretty good at keeping the food in check. Hopefully I can start losing some of my pudge around the middle soon. It just ticks me off these poeple who think about losing weight and drop 5-10 pounds...I have to work at it, stinks!!! In the world of my children "why can't life be fair" LOL.

Cassy~ That made me feel better, thanks. I needed to hear that from someone... not sure why I keep obsessing over having a flat stomach anyways - who cares? I just make myself miserable... is it really worth it? I like your attitude and how you said you never had a flat stomach and aren't going to try and get one now. :) If it was meant to happen for me it will and if not I shouldn't keep worrying about something I don't have and probably won't get anyways.
Glad you got that food demon under control... I think mine is knawing through it's leash. lol Good job on getting your runs in even in the rain and wind - yuck. That sounds pretty miserable. I wish life could be fair - then I could eat anything I wanted and not get fat! If only...
Cassy- Love the game room in the hot tub idea... I have this great picture in my head of people crowded around a floating monopoly board or something. It sounds fun (and SCARY) to be the hot chick in the bikini. Good luck!
Sherry- :P curls are exotic! I have stick straight hair and my sister has ringlets her hair is so curly... I am forever jealous of her :P
Karey - lol Live isn't fair :( I had two really bad food days in a row and I am really hoping I can keep it from becoming a really bad food week. So many celebratory dinners and holiday dinners and let's go out for a girls lunch and there isn't enough hours in the day to plan out a good lunch to take. ug. Bad food, bad!
I started my running training schedule yesterday. I am so glad I waited a bit to start the schedule. My easy 2 mile run for the first day of training was much easier because I got back into running the last two weeks. I ran in my neighborhood all last week and it is pretty steep in places which made running yesterday on a flat track a breeze. I ended up running it way too fast for what my schedule said.
Hello Ladies....yes a "voice" from the past!
Good to see so many of you still around and so many of you still fighting the same battles, as am I....
I wish I could spend more time chatting in this room but my job is ever so busy....it's still a temp job but there is a definite rumor that my boss is trying to get it to be perm. I still love my job.
Started getting back with the program AGAIN!!!! Am doing a new kind of workout, one that I've never done. For the first time in 40 yrs I'm not doing a bodybuilder's workout. Bought the book The New rules of lifting for women and am doing it's workouts. So far I've only done 2 and they are killers. But on the positive side, I'm in and out of the gym in 45 min and no need to spend more than a few minutes on the elliptical for a warm up. The workout keeps my heartrate between 147-171 the entire time. that's enough cardio to keep my heart strong.
Anyway, I don't want to take up any more of your time. I hope you don't mind if I pop in every now and again. Colleen and I have become accountable to each other via email. We both need to shed 20 lbs!
Take care ladies and keep it healthy!
