Anyone in this grouping looking to drop from 140 to 130's. We can all use support. Today I am focusing on all the food groups. Exercise would be good, but I won't be able to since I am working from 9 to 10:30. A Super long day. I hope I can stay focused, when I pass the fast food chaines on my travels today.
kiigan/unicat - i'm really debating these protein shakes, you are both quite convincing. :) do you only take them when you're weight-lifting or after cardio as well?
kiigan, 141 is fantastic and you're looking great!! i can't wait to get where you're at, so don't go getting jealous of us! :D a size 9 in juniors is amazing, way to go!
pretty, don't give up! if the scale bothers you THAT much, go to bed, bath and beyond, stand on the scales until one matches your weight and splurge on the 30 bucks to buy a new one if that's what it takes to keep you on track! don't give up over that dumb scale!
ugh, all this talk of alcohol! ewe! i had a little run-in on friday, won't be drinking for awhile. i barfed in the cab ride home. *hiding face* so awful! can i subtract calories for that though? LOL!! JK! JK!
vcoop, i'm normally like you though. LOVE my wine. our 'collection' is moving VERY slow these days, the fridge has been full for a long time. i only really drink one, maybe 2 nights a week now. i just bought some really nice stuff last night though that i'm excited to enjoy next weekend! but i DO miss the cheese! i enjoyed some wine and cheese though while i was in NY, what a treat!
unicat - your kids' easter pics are SO cute! :)

i tend to drink them after a workout. either cardio or weight-lifting. although really, i very rarely do my actual intensive workout after work, and i can't drink an entire shake when i get home in the morning. so i usually have it after i get home from work and after doing my lighter workout--usually abs or some light cardio. the best time to have it is after a workout--but it's not like it's not good for you if it's some other time during the day.
i totally hear you on the alcohol thing. i had some problems on st. patty's day--somewhere between the 4 games of beer pong and who knows how many cups of jungle juice i passed my limit :) the weird thing is that i was FINE until i tried to go to sleep. cue the spins and eventual puking. :) oh well :) but your abs probably got a workout though! :)

Happy post-easter Monday, everyone!
I hope you all had fun, and I agree with the 'everyone stay on track today' sentiment for sure!
Teen-I stumbled on Advantedge shakes at a gas station one random afternoon lol.. I buy them now from Albertson's, cvs, or walmart depending on the day. They remind me of chocolate milk. yum.
kiigan-170 bpm is a great workout! The elliptical at my gym always yells at me after i surpass 158 stayin my heart rate's too high.. but I know what's too much more than that silly machine so I tend to ignore it. Keep up the good work! you're so close to the 140 mark you can taste it lol..and congrats on 9 jrs!
Pretty-def don't give up. The scale doesnt define you. I liked the idea of going to bed bath and beyond or somewhere and finding a scale that's truest to your weight. It 20$ is all that's standing between you and your goal, it's worth spending it.
vcoop-I totally relate to the wine and cheese thing.. I love a dry white wine..I inadvertently gave up wine because of cals but still emjoy a glass or two from time to time. I do like my diet tonic and vodkas, though.. and over the weekend Mighta over did the kamikazes haha.. but within my cals amazingly enough
Unicat-Good job having yesterday as a maintenence day!
Here, things are going pretty well.. I'm relatively happy about the weekend..Went out for the night on Sat, but managed to stay within my cals even with the alcohol.. (and i didnt even order mcdonalds with everyone at 2 am woo hoo!) Yesterday.. I definately didnt have a defecit but I don't think I went over maintenence cals either.. I had 5 homemade cookies though lol (not at once.. periodically through the day.. we had a bbq with all kinds of goodies.. and the cookies are the only thing that snagged me.. I had a turkey burger no bun with carrots and fruit instead of icecream and chips etc..unfortunaly tho, I had a happy meal for breakfast haha..even so, i wasnt hungry at dinner time so i didnt eat anything..) I don't weigh in daily but I don't feel bloated and icky..and started the day off healthy today.. so, a full weekend that didnt sabatorge the week before's work. It's been a long time! (oh.. and the shorts that I wanted.. seems I am a size 6 again.. (regular not jrs.. didnt try anything juniors this time around). I didnt buy them because I feel i can lose a little more before shelling out the cash (i reallly like them but i wouldnt normally pay so much for shorts, either LOL)
Ok done rambling! Glad to be back on the computer and back among friends! have a great monday everyone!

Morgan - have fun at the spa, I did that with daughter about this time last year. It was great, just her and I. We had about a four hour time span - sauna, facial massage, pedicures, manicures, body massage - it was heaven.
Tina - we were in NY in October, Finger Lakes region for wine tasting it was so much fun. I was told you can have cheese as long as it is not processed cheese, like cheese from the Amish country. We may have to make a road trip soon : - )

I HATE deciding between alcohol and food!
Lately I've been going for the wine.

a size 6 lily??? that's awesome!!!! i haven't tried on regular sizes, btu i'm guessing somewhere around an 8, maybe??? maybe i'll try next time i go to kohl's, LOL :) but juniors clothes are generally cheaper so like shopping there :) and good job staying in yoru calorie range!
dharma--wine's good for your heart :) that's not so bad :)
i'm putting off making my trip outside to go to the mail center since it's so chilly....hmm...procrastination!

i just need to get this off my chest.
it is sooooo frustrating to see these 16 year old and under girls on this site, saying "i weigh 110 lbs...is eating 1200 calories enough?" it's just so frustrating to see that and know that they're not over weight and it can be very hard on people who are actually overweight to read about 110 lb girls complaining about their "huge" stomachs. it's just hard because it's so indicative of misguided perceptions and our inability to objectively see ourselves. *sighs* that and when they get the same advice from 5 different ppl but don't want to listen. that's hard too. i try not to let it get to me, but man!

kiigan--that can be really frustrating to me, too. As someone who struggles with my own insecurities, I hate to see it developing so early in some young women...it's so hard. Thanks for encouraging my goals. I'm still aiming for 140 by May 12th and I think I'll look for hitting 135 by July 4th. Then, it's maintenence time for me (I'm 5'7", so I think that will be a good weight for me--though I still need to convert some weight into muscle mass : )
I also hate deciding between food and alcohol--I was at a conference last week and had a few more drinks than I expected : (
lily--way to go on checking out your "size," but still seeking a goal. I am hopefully going to wait a little before I splurge on some new clothes, too. It's hard to wait sometimes, though!
Yesterday's splurge was a little more than I expected and I gained a pound today--up to 147.5. But, today is a new day and I am on track for my normal calories : )
Keep up the hard work, all--it is so encouraging to read your messages (even when I can't keep up!)

I agree Kiigan.. it's so sad to see young kids struggling with their relationship with food and the true concept of beauty..So many of younger girls on here I feel realize they have an ED, they just choose not to seek help professionally and try to deal with it themselves/through here. It is also discouraging for so many others reading who can't remember a day in their lives when they were 110 lbs (i never was.. and it would be dreadfully unhealthy if I strove for that). My younger sister recently lost alot of weight.. didnt say anything to us about wanting to.. when i read the posts here from kids her age, it makes me nervous.
So.. it's almost 230 here..I've resisted (SO FAR) such potential diet havoc..My partner and I always celebrate Easter the day after (we're on a budget lol.. so much more cost effective that way!) Anyway, I spent my lunch today sifting through mountains of 5 and 10 cent reeses pb cup fudge eggs, snickers, peeps, cadburys, and every other easter candy imagineable. I bought alot of it for the basket.. and the whole time, I was thinking, well it's just 10 cents so i should just eat one.. a little treat.. (yesterday's cookies werent treat enough? lol) Nonetheless.. I resisted it. It's still driving me crazy just cuz I have the big bag of goodies in the work fridge, and coworkers have jelly beans out everywhere that that dont want in their houses..ugh..On top of that, the water cooler is broken..so normally, when id get the urge to snack I was really just thirsty. There is no more diet coke in the machine, either. So i'm pouting and writing here lol.. Sorry to be so whiney..just trying not to break!
Keep smilin' all!

sorry this a book ya'll lol.. probably should of posted a journal entry lol.. and i probably will, especially if i edit todays journal entry lol...
ugh... looks like i am probably going to have a few maintenance days in a row.. i just got home (its 1230) so am just now getting lunch... i was too tired this morning before going to the appts to exercise, and all i ate was a yogurt... i feel like i have been going all day so thats gotta count for something right?? i wouldnt have a clue how to log it though.. spent 20 minutes this morning searching the house for the teens military id card... couldnt find it.. left the house frustrated, dropped daughter off at school.. drove half an hour to the hospital.. walked 10 minutes max to the 1st appt.. sat there fillling out paperwork for almost half an hour, waited for the doc to talk to my son for 30 minute, then went to talk to her (hubby, myself, and our 3 yr old) along with the teen... for about 30 minutes.. then went upstairs to the audiology appt for 30 minutes.. then went downstairs, searched for the ekg lab for ten minutes.. went back to the 1st dr to find out where ekg was.. ugh.. went up to the 3rd floor. looked for ekg, was told its on the 4th floor.. so found it pretty quick once we got up there... took a whole 5 minutes.. went back down to the first doc, dropped it off.. walked back to the car.. drove teen to school.. had to walk in with him.. drove home.. got home to find i had left the front door open, and the screen door wasnt latched.. OH MY ... searched for kittens.. for about 5 minutes... went inside and there they were.. YAY.. havent drank even 8 oz of water yet today.. ugh... and i feel beat... and now tomorrow morning i have to take the teen to get labs done.. so probably the same type of morning.. ugh..
teen - i drink a protein shake after both... you are suppose to get protein within something like 30 minutes of breaking down the muscles to help replenish them.. or thats what i have heard... and thanks, i think my kids are cute too :)
lily - hopefully i can handle a few maintenance days.. and i know how you feel about shelling out money for stuff you hopefully wont be wearing long. :) glad you are feeling good about the weekend ;) and wow a size 6 :) good job resisting the candy today :) and i am whiney today too :P
morgan - i agree with you.. i am sooooo scared my niece who is 17 is going to have a bad body image, and shes gorgeous in my opinion.. i hate to see these teens struggling with it...
ekathleen - good solid goals :) and one lbs not bad, possibly some water weight there :)
ugh.. gotta drink some water... then soon its off to the school again.. ugh...

Sounds like a hectic day unicat.. hang in there though! All that running around definately counts for something! Get hydrated, take a breather, and continue on the great track you've been on :)
I almost ate a handful of jelly beans.. I grabbed 'em had em 1/2 centimeter from my mouth and threw them away. I ate a bag of mini carrots. Definately not the same.. but no guilt comin along with that. ..an hour to go and away from the temptation! Por fin!

dharam - I know hard decision food or wine. My husband and I went tonight to make our own wine, my sister in law got us this gift certificate for Xmas and we had not used it yet. So of course, we had to try different wines before we picked what we wanted to make. It was fun!!!
so needless to say, worked my butt off tonight. Elipital for 20 minutes level 3-5. 27 minutes of tae-bo and then two sets of abs exercises.
unicat - wow, you had one hectic day.... sounds like you just need to relax alittle.
lucky here, no little ones - both of our kids are all grown adults, so no candy. It was just desserts yesterday that did me in.

Hello room....
Here I am. So my story. All this year I have been going to the gym at my university. The scale has been telling me that I have been hovering between 129- 135 for the past six months. Well last week we had the scale fixed... I didn't even know it was broken!!! So now that my true weigh has been revealled I have decided that my goal weight needed to change as well. There is no way that 125 seems plausible now. Oh ya did I mention the scale was off by 10lbs. Welcome to a new sort of diet depression, but I still don't get it I have been 139-145lbs range for six months and holding... I exercise almost every day, and have fairly good eating habits.... I can't believe that a scale can really determine my mood this much... I am determined to not let it keep me from accomplishing my goals. Anyone here have any success stories that I can get some hints from? Or at least get back some of my confedence.

Vicstudentoria - hmm lets see... how tall are you?? whats a healthy weight for your age/height?? maybe this is your bodies set point... how did you feel about your body and the way you looked, and how healthy did you feel, BEFORE you found out you were ten lbs heavier?? were you happy with it?? you shouldnt allow the scale to bring you down that much if you were...
how many calories are you eating?? how many should you be eating according to calorie count?? are you getting enough?? whats your daily expenditure?? how much extra calories do you burn doing exercise?? what kind of deficit do you have?? have you tried changing up your exercise?? or zigzagging your calories??
these things can all make a difference... if we can help you at all, we will try :) but we need more info of this sort.. :)

YES i definitely need to relax a little.. i have managed to drink 36 oz of water since my lunch earlier :) yay.. now to get in some more.. :) and kids are colouring, so i may just lay here, and veg... i also edited my journal entry for today, to show the changed burned calories.. i didnt enter anything for the stuff i did today with the teen, so i am sure my burned calories have got to be more than i have entered..
just read this article on protein, very informative for me. i've linked it if anyone's interested.
hmm interesting... according to this calculation from them...
"How to Calculate Your Protein Needs:
1. Weight in pounds divided by 2.2 = weight in kg
2. Weight in kg x 0.8-1.8 gm/kg = protein gm.
Use a lower number if you are in good health and are sedentary. Use a higher number (between 1 and 1.8) if you are under stress, are pregnant, are recovering from an illness, or if you are involved in consistent and intense weight or endurance training.
Example: 154 lb male who is a regular exerciser and lifts weights
154 lbs/2.2 = 70kg
70kg x 1.5 = 105 gm protein/day"
mine is : 143/2.2 = 65 kg weight
65kg x .8?? = 52 gm protein/day
65kg x 1 = 65 gm protein/day
65kg x 1.5 = 97 gm protein/day..
i am definitely not sedentary once you add my exercise in, but i dont think i should be a 1.5?? although i do exercise regularly, and am doing weights?? so which should i be getting?? somewhere between 65-97 gm protein/day??? my average for the last month is something like 85 gm protein/day... on average...obviously i dont get that much everyday..

hi! I posted a journal entry
sounds like everyone is doing great! Keep up the good work!!
sounds like everyone is doing great! Keep up the good work!!
Those numbers seem about right, Brigitte. If you go by pounds, you're supposed to get 0.6-1 gram of protein per pound, and if you use 0.6, that puts you at about 85 g. if you're getting an average in the 80's, i'd say you're doing pretty well. hope you made it through your day, too! sounds pretty crazy.
lily--way to go with those jelly beans! i don't think i could throw them away after getting 'em that close to my mouth :) unless it was licorice flavor. i hate those ones, icky :P
vicki--making your own wine sounds fun! that's so cool! nice exercise routine, too!
vicstudent--that sux about the scale, but like unicat said, it doesn't change how you look and you should try to not let it affect how you feel about yourself. the numbers play mind games with us--and it's hard to get over those. but that's what we're here for! but yeah--before we can help, we need to know a lot more about you and your dieting/exercise habits. personally, i'm 5'5", 22 y/o, exercise about an hour daily, and try to eat about 1800 cals of healthy foods. i started at about 165 in October, and am down to 140 now--so a good 25 lbs lost. also dropped a few sizes.
stacey--i'll be sure to check out the journal entry!
wolfie--still need to look at that article, too.
but for me, this morning i stepped on the scale, and 139.5!!!! Yay! Means I can finally get rid of that 140 goal! it's about friggin' time! now, i know it's a fluctuating low, so i probably won't see it again for a few days, but man. that was awesome :) the scale said i had gone up 2 pounds when i got back from teh gym and ate breakfast, but i'm stickin' with the 139.5 :) lol. also realized today that my left bicep is significantly weaker than my right. i was doing bicep curls with 10 lb weights and my left arm was definitely dragging :) so i might start doing some curls with just the left arm a couple times a week at home.

vicstudent--that sux about the scale, but like unicat said, it doesn't change how you look and you should try to not let it affect how you feel about yourself. the numbers play mind games with us--and it's hard to get over those. but that's what we're here for! but yeah--before we can help, we need to know a lot more about you and your dieting/exercise habits. personally, i'm 5'5", 22 y/o, exercise about an hour daily, and try to eat about 1800 cals of healthy foods. i started at about 165 in October, and am down to 140 now--so a good 25 lbs lost. also dropped a few sizes.
stacey--i'll be sure to check out the journal entry!
wolfie--still need to look at that article, too.
but for me, this morning i stepped on the scale, and 139.5!!!!
