5'5" Club! People with Similar Goals Working Together!

Quote  |  Reply

If you're 5 feet and 5 inches tall (or within 1-2 inches of it) feel free to talk here! Think of it like an interactive journal.

Let us know who you are, a few simple statistics, share what you eat, your goal weight, your story.

Come here whenever you need to vent, want support, need someone to talk to, need advice, etc.

There is no limit to the number of people who can come here, no specific way you must introduce yourself, nothing is set in stone. Come here when you can, share as much as you want and most importantly, be comfortable!

There is an optional weigh-in date so you can get some encouragement. Friday! Weigh-in however you want! Scale, inches, clothing size, etc! However you keep track of your weight loss is the best one to use.

Hey there! Hope I can still join in the 5'5" fun!?!

I am 30 yrs old,  5'5" and I currently weigh 185 pounds, with a goal weight of 135 lbs.

My heaviest was 220 when pregnant with my youngest daughter 3 years ago, since then I have come down to 185 and maintained it very well:( I have not gone below, despite working my arse off running after my 4 children. My goal with this site is to eat healthier and to exercise more, but not just for weight loss, but for a lifestyle change. After having 4 kids, I have alot of "belly fluff" that I would LOVE to be rid of, even though the hubby says it is soft:) I am currently in a size 16 jean and XL shirts, I would LOVE to be in a size 8-10 and medium shirts. I have finally decided to do this for ME, and I hope that makes the difference that every other time never did. Thanks for letting me join in the fun.

erose - oh u kno what.....dont worry about those days...we ALL fall off sometimes but the difference is that u start another day back on track and dont let it get to u.  just use it as one of your treat days!  my mom had surgery on the past monday and we had to eat out all day b/c we were in the hospital....and i got back on track on tuesday and my clothes r still getting a teeny bit looser everyday so i dont think it will hurt ur efforts in the long run.

jennifer - welcome...you can still join! there is no limit to who can join.  im glad your deciding to get healthy for yourself b/c i think thats when the real success happens b/c u hold yourself acountable.

OK GROUP WE CAN DO THE WEIGH INS ON FRIDAY so lets all have a good week so we can post our successes!

i ended up NOT going to the gym on friday so i feel bad :(  so now im treating myself to a spinning class this morning.  im still a little proud of myself as i was at a desert cafe and my table was filled with the most decadent chocolate cake....BUT i grabbed an earl grey tea, some sweetner and a splash of milk.  total cals was probably like 5. yay
oh one question --> i keep reading about people getting their metabolism tested (medically??) and they know how much they burn on a daily basis...Does anyone know where to do that.  i asked my brother (doctor) and he had no idea....anyone know?

Well, the bloating is finally going away. I have not had any Activia for 2 days and it is already better. My husband and i went out to eat last night, I didn't choose very well but it was good. I did a nice work out though today 138 minutes. My family gathering was good. Everyone commented on how good I looked and were wondering why I wanted to lose more. Well, I'm 5'5'' and 156-159 pounds. I need to get to about 145. I want to be considered normal weight once in my life not overweight. I think all the comments were the kick in the butt I needed to get back on track. I have a wedding to go to in October and I would love to be at my goal weight by then ( I make small goals). 12 pounds in 4.5 months should be no problem, right?.

I look forward to reading everyones successes. Good Luck everyone.

Jennifer- I'm not sure if you can count pregnancy weight as being your heaviest because a lot of that is due to the baby. =) It's great that you were able to lose 45lbs after the pregnancy though! I'm always hearing how hard it is to lose the baby weight, my mom is still trying after four kids. Have you added any conventional exercises to your life? You can't spot-reduce but you can focus exercise that work out a certain area more than others.

Kish- Thanks for helping me out in welcoming everyone and letting people know when new things are happening Laughing It really is very helpful! And don't feel bad for not going to the gym, you made up for it by going to a spinning class. Those classes are amazing workouts! And good job on resisting temptation! As for the getting metabolism tested... I have never heard of that so I'm not sure.

Tammy- I don't like it when people tell you not to lose more. My sister yells at me sometimes that I can't lose more weight. I'm the same height and 5'5" and 185lbs, I need to lose more weight to be healthy! You should give yourself some incentives to lose weight, like every 5 lbs you lose you get... Whatever you want.

I was trying to find a decent snack earlier, I wound up drinking a lot of Ovaltine. It would up not being a decent snack... but it was delicious! Heh... Then for dinner I had a whole-wheat hot dog bun, small banana, and 2 Tbs of natural (nothing added) vegan peanut butter. It was yummy!
It's hot here so I'm not too keen on going outside, but I did earlier to give my two dogs a bath in the yard. That's a workout in itself, carrying 100+lbs dogs and trying to chase after them with the hose and not get soaked... yeah... didn't work too well but my pups are clean!

ok i know we werent supposed to....but i stepped on the scale this morning (i hadnt checked since last monday) and im down to 122.0 from 125.2 last monday! i kno its 3 pounds in a week but my body always worked quickly like that (and i only lost 1 pound the week b4)..i kno it'll slow down near the end of my goal weight so ill enjoy this for now...!

Tammy, I am in Madison at the University, but I work in the north woods for most of the summer. I hope it will be easy to diet up there, with the grocery store so far away and food choices much more limited. The only problem is the beer, I think I gained 10 lbs last summer from all the beer we drank, so this summer I am sticking to water!

I'm really glad that the "weigh in" can be measurements as the scales aren't budging but the inches are (very slowly!!)

I was ok with my food/calories/exercise but have felt physically lousy.  Its TTOM and I'm pre menopausal (47 years old) - anyone else here like that or am I the oldest "old fart" here?

Weighing in: 144! That's down 3 from last week!

I've been getting lazy though. All I did all weekend (long weekend in Canada here) was about 1 hour of tennis, got horribly sunburned, and stayed indoors for the rest of the weekend. I really don't feel like doing anything tonight either. It's getting cold & windy this week, chance of rain. Maybe I'll get some oil for my squeaky elliptical and try it out again.

kishmish, I wouldn't worry about dropping 3 in a week. As long as you are eating enough I say congrats!

went to the cabin for the long weekend, managed to eat relatively healthy. had salmon with baked potatoes (no butter) and salad on friday night, 2 pork ribs, and lots of salad and baked sweet potato, and corn (little bit of butter) on saturday, and healthy chicken fajitas on sunday. ate a TON of fresh fruits and veggies, avoided the smokies....  not too bad~

disappointed to come home and see that the scale was marking 150lbs... ugh... I hate weighing myself at home. I like the scales at the gym better.... I think I should go buy a digital scale for home...

neuvaburro - how many cals r in beer anyway?  if its anything like my coca cola addiction then for sure u can gain some massive weight on that stuff.

veganmamma - i was just wondering what is implied when one says 'premenopausal' - r there any effects since u havent hit menopause yet?

brittany - yay im glad im not the only one with a big number this week.  thanks for the reasurance!  what did u do on victoria day?  i ended up watching fireworks at ashbridges bay in toronto.  what about u?  it is cold here...its kind of annoying for being mid may... you would think it would be blazing hot by now!

mish - your diet looked pretty good for going away.  i would have made worse choices!  i have a digital scale - they r brutally honest! i bought a weight watchers one from walmart if ur looking for a brand.

i went up a pound today even though i was only at 1300 cals yesterday (went to east side marios and had lasagna) so im thinking its sodium cuz there is no possible way i gained weight (and i went to the gym that day).
Question -->  if the scale was at 122 the day b4 and 123 today...is my true weight 122 ?

Yeah, beer is 125-175 a can/bottle.

Today was weigh in day for me and I lost nothing.  It may be due to water retention because of the massive change in weather.  We've been having 70-80s until 2 days ago it jumped to 90+ then 100+.  It will go back down again.  But even with all the precautions, I still got overheated during workout so I wouldn't doubt I'm retaining water from that.  Oh and the chicken binge the other day.

Yell

Note to self: Come back here and respond to everyone. =)

I'm a late riser which is bad and so I am frantically trying to get ready and do everything I am supposed to do before I'm late... which I will be in 5 minutes. Yikes... I've been doing baaad on my diet but my exercise routine is falling into place slowly but surely! I just need to stop emotional eating... mostly stress or sadness... Bah.

I hope everyone else is doing great!

'Ello!

Age: 23

Height: 5'5-5'6

Weight: Last time I checked it was 118, but that was a while ago.

Goal: Yeah, I know I don't need lose weight, but I want to cut some body fat and get LEAN! I have a very small frame: size 3.5 ring finger, can wrap my hand around my wrist and touch my thumb to all 4 fingers and was teased for having "chicken" legs when I was a little girl.

So, yeah, I'm small so any weight gain that is fat is pretty noticeable.

Kish- You can weigh yourself if you want to. =) And congrats on losing weight!

Veganmamma- I totally understand! For awhile that's all that was happening with me, inches coming off and pounds staying the same.

Bittany- Good job on the weight loss! Oooh sunburns suck! I hope it heals nicely, aloe vera is great! As for the elliptical, I love ellipticals! =D

Mish- Scales are weird no matter where they are or what kind. How come you like the gym scales better?

Hawkey- You don't have to want to lose weight to come here! Toning is a great goal to have! =)

my willpower keeps getting tested....like today...i was surrounded by ice cream bars, peanut butter cookies, etc.  i feel like if i refuse then ill get the snide comments about me watching what i eat....i hate those comments they make me so self-conscious!

hawkeyegal - you dont have to justify u wanting to lose weight past 118.  when i was 118 i had quite noticeable bodyfat b/c i have such a small body frame.  every pound makes a huge difference on a small frame (esp when your close to your goal weight).  for example, on me, losing only 2 pounds allowed me to fit into a pant that i couldnt button up properly. for most ppl it takes 10 pounds to go down a size.

mrsdagle - it sucks not seeing the scale budge.... lol on the chicken binge!

buhri - im sorry to hear stress/sadness is in your head/heart.  if you need anyone to talk to about it you can count on me.  dont allow your emotions to get in the way of your goals!

kishmish, I know what you mean by having your willpower tested. I feel like that most days(feeling really snacky today). Just keep resisting them and you will feel impowered.  I am actually looking foward to my weigh in tomorrow, since I have been feeling better.

after a healthy weekend away, I totally binged yesterday. Had a caramilk bar (260cal, 13g fat), and 1/2 bag kettle chips (340cal, 17g fat)  (boyfriend pulled them out and I couldn't resist.)

I did walk the pooches for an hour, and paddled an hour, so I'm sure I worked off some of it. The rest of the day was healthy eating (lots of fruit/veg/yogurt, minestroni soup w/ whole wheat bun from Tim Hortons for lunch, rice pasta with homemade chicken/veg tomato sauce for dinner)

Will be paddling again tonight for 1.5 hrs in the rain. Trying to avoid the temptations today!!

Thanks for the support, everyone! You don't know how many eyerolls I get when I say I want to lose a few.

Mish--Men and temptation go hand-in-hand, don't they? No matter what the situation! My fiance is always snacking and wanting fast food. Even if I'm not the least bit hungry, I'll dive into whatever he's having.

This Memorial Day weekend has got me a bit nervous. I'm all about cheats, don't get me wrong, but three days worth of cheats might kill me.

Hi

5'6''

start weight  260lb

target weight 130lbs

age; 47

I eat  healthily, lots of salads, protein and carbs.. and my butter, I like butter I know I ought not to eat it, but 2 tsp per day is not bad..is it?

I am struggling with health issues, lots of different things going on.

so far I've lost 5lbs.. but its been slow, hard work and only now getting into excercise.. or I should say dancing. I snap on the ipod and jig away for a few hrs, nothing too difficult but enough to raise the heartbeat a good bit.

I love my food, especially fresh organic stuff, and tend to eat a lot of meat, all sorts.I also tend to be muscular, having done weight training in the past, I built up a good sound pair of arms and legs.. its the bits in the middle that have let me down.. gone all soggy.
