When I was grocery shopping this weekend, I saw a new non dairy "ice cream" that was vegan and made with coconut milk.

Has anybody tried this?

Is it any good?

Does it have an underlying coconut flavor? (not that I'd mind, I like coconut()

I'm always leery of new products that are bit spendy as I hate to be stuck with something I don't like.

i sampled the so good brand one.

oh wow.  it's SO good.

and yep, there are underlying coconut flavors in it...but it doesn't have the weird texture of soy ice cream.

So good!

I bought a pint of the chocolate chip cookie dough one. I figured I'd try it, and it's pretty good, but you can definitely taste the coconut. So much that you can't taste the actual flavor of the "ice cream"... kinda lame. The cookie dough bits weren't good. The underlying coconut flavor is good but another flavor of the ice cream would have been better. Basically, regular ice cream has pretty much the same calories and fat per serving... the only thing better about the coconut milk ice cream was the fact that it's gluten free and dairy free, and it has a good amount of fiber.

Really? I must disagree! The Pure Decadence Coconut Milk Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is my new fav ice cream! I absolutely LOVE it. I love the cookie dough bits and the underlying coconut is quite nice (in my opinion obviously!).

I LOVE Purely Decadent Coconut Milk ice cream! I totally recommend you try all their flavors. My favorites are Cookie Dough and Mint Chip. They all have a bit of a coconutty flavor, but if you like coconut that shouldn't be a problem.

thanks I May just get some this weekend. I think it was the Purely Decadent brand they were carrying.

I sounds great, although not exactly a low cal/low fat/low sugar food.

But I need to live a little

I'm also on the bandwagon...I absolutely LOVE Purely Decadent Coconut Milk ice cream! I would agree that the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is my favorite, along with the Mint Chip. It's coconut milk ice cream, so if you aren't a fan of coconut, you probably won't like it, as there is that underlying taste mentioned above...but I think it's to be expected.

What is the best thing I've had so far are the bars made from the same brand with the coconut and almonds, dipped in vegan chocolate...AMAZING! : )

I thought they were ok. I enjoyed the cookie dough one. The mint chip was not as good. They're great substitutes for vegan/lactose-intolerant folks but I wouldn't buy them regularly because of the high saturated fat content. Rice milk ice cream is where it's at!

I tried the mint chocolate chip this weekend. I wasnt' bowled over, but it was quite good, especially the large chocolate pieces. I don't think I'd buy it very often (def NOT low cal), but I might try another flavor.

I like the texture better than some other faux ice creams.

you can make your own non-dairy ice-cream with frozen bananas ... and or with fresh coconut flesh from inside baby coconuts - add whatever kind of frozen berries or fruit you like - awesomely yummy - make in a high speed blender or in an icecream maker, just google for the recipes

a thousand times better than ice cream. i love it. my number one favorite treat.

Be careful, this can be way more calorific than soy ice cream or rice ice cream, and is about 235979x more addicting! I like the coconut bliss brand.
