Just how bad is it to drink coffee when trying to lose weight? My breakfast sometimes consists of only coffee from TIM HORTONS.

TIM HORTONS is EVILL when trying to lose weight...its so tempting. I try to hard to just stick with a double double.

So is coffee bad for you? wil it stall ur weight loss?

nope:) but the double double part might. I think a large doublt double has about 70 cals, so you hae to count it. But its definitly better than say a large hot chocolate (250-300 cals i would guess). but its probly Even better to have a real brekkie, you won't be as hungry later.

There is nothing about coffee that can stall or effect fat loss or gain, metabolically speaking.

There isn't any common edible substance that can do this.

Weight loss/gain is determined only by calorie intake versus calories used -- basic physics/biology.  Only a few rare and serious diseases can interfere with the body's mechanisms to change this.

70 calories? REALLY? wow talk about a waste of calories..how about a small double double??:D...i can't give it up completly now can i..lol
I moved to NY ........it was the only way to break the addiction.  God I miss Tim
Hi Shalz,

I don't think coffee is all that bad for you.  If anything a little caffinee in the morning will kick start your motabolism or at least increase your heart rate.  But in moderation.  Make sure you're drinking plenty of water cause coffee like any caffinated drink, it will dehydrate you.

Also go easy on the cream and sugar.

Hope this helps.

Order a double double with skim milk and sweetner
Actually Marnee, the caffeine in coffee promotes lipolysis in your body. Which means that your body has an easier time burning fat while you're caffeinated - it's why most diet pills on the market have caffeine as their main active ingredient.

So having a couple cups of black coffee about an hour before your workout should be helpful... since it can increase endurance by 7%-55% according to which study you read :)
7-55%?? If that isnt a reason to drink coffee before a workout...i dont know what is....:)

Haha I adore drinking a small cup of home-brewed dunkin donuts coffee before workouts...it really does help, especially when it's a sleepy day and I need a boost!

As for your question, coffee will in no way slow your weight loss, as others have said. What will slow your weightloss is the stuff that goes in your coffee....so limit that :)

All that being said, I'll make a point that hasn't been brought up yet I don't think, your breakfast should not consists ONLY of coffee! :P  You know that I'm sure.  Grab a quick breakfast to go w/ your coffee if possible

Enjoy your coffee :)

Try going easy on the cream and maybe instead of the sugar use Splenda.  Splenda is much better for you then trying a sweetner, and there's no calories in it.

Coffe in itself? No.

The all kinds of crap people put into their coffee?  Most likely.

An 8oz. cup of coffee has only 9 calories and a GOOD cup of coffee does not need anything at all.  But...most people use sugar and cream/creamer/cream substitute in their coffee thus adding in all the calories.

I don't care for those foo-foo chains.  I make my own at home.  With 2 tsp of sugar in a large mug, it's much better than Coke, which would have about 10 tsp of sugar in a similar amount.  I don't sweat the calories in my coffee.  I still think it's better than addicitive diet sodas, and the caffeine boosts the metabolism.

i have an iced mocha with non fat milk no whipped cream from starbucks several times a week - i simply count it (130 cals) and im losing 1 - 2 pounds a week on average. :)

if i'm not doing starbucks out, i make my own coffee with real sugar and half and  half - again i count the calories  (around 70 or 80).

you can diet and still enjoy yummy yummy coffee. :D

I used to love having an XL double double from Tim Hortons till I went to see a nutritionist. The double cream when measured out is approx 1/4 cup of cream and 8 grams of fat. I was astonished to hear this! I now order my coffee from Tim w/ milk and sugar after finding that out
Some studies have shown that caffeine stimulates the relase of insulin, so for those who are insulin resistant, that's a bad thing.
Oh, and I forgot to mention creamer! The flavored creamer is really high in sugar.
Just a word of advice...  Your "double double" is what contains the actual calories.  The coffee itself has 5 - 10 calories depending on the size.  If you like you coffee double double then go for it, let yourself have one pleasure without guilt.  70 calories is not much.  Go for a half hour walk and it's gone.  PLEASE!!!! Avoid artificial sweeteners and flavored creamers!  A little sugar and fat are a lot less harmful to you than all of the chemicals and possible carcinogens in artificial foods.  Think of your long term health not just the quick fix for here and now!  ENJOY YOUR COFFEE!!! You deserve it. (PS... Please eat breakfast)

I totally agree with the above poster. AVOID fake sugar. There's a lot of info out there about how bad splenda is for you.

Agave is a natural sweetner and stevia is awesome and has no calories!
