Coffee and Breakfast
So, I have noticed that when I drink coffee for breakfast, I tend to not eat anything with it. I find I don't get very hungry afterwards so I just skip breakfast sometimes. Usually I don't though because, as we all know, eating breakfast (even if it is small) is important for revving up the metabolism.
Just wondering if anyone else has found a similiar side effect?
I know caffeine is an appetite suppressant, however it is kinda nice having an extra couple hundred calories for the mac and cheese I want for lunch ;)
Yes, me too! I don't skip breakfast, but it takes me about an hour and a half to feel like eating

i have the saaammmeee issue.
it's weird how coffee "fills you up"... why is that?
I see the same thing happen with me. If I don't have coffee with skim milk and sweetner with breakfast, I snack wayyyy more through out the day. If I have my big coffee, I am fine for the rest of the day!
The coffee in the morning doesn't really seem to affect me, other than lifting some of the fog.
I've noticed it more in the afternoon, when I pour myself a big glass of slightly Splenda sweetened ice tea. Part of it is the caffeine, I'm sure, and part of it is just having something to sip on constantly instead of nibbling at various snacks. Lemonade works somewhat, but not as well as the iced tea.
That's funny. Coffee does the exact opposite for me in the morning! As soon as I smell the scent of a fresh pot, my stomach starts rumbling. And drinking it makes me crave my muesli, yogurt & blueberries!
When I drink coffee I cannot eat anything with it - it's got such a strong flavor/taste that eating it with anything is almost pointless because you cannot even taste the food you're eating really...
I never used to drink coffee and started recently to help rid some of my water weight...and it worked!
I also noticed it does wonders for my appetities and helps me workout harder. My worst time of the day was when I got home around 4 or 5 and just would snack all the time and than have dinner. Now I make me a cup of black cofee no sugar or milk and sip that slowly! I don't need to snack and I eat way less for dinner!! I love it!
I usually drink coffee right after I have breakfast so I can make sure I eat the food, since coffeeit has that appetite suppresant affect on me. It is true about the metabolism thing so hopefully my idea helped you.
Question is coffee -> breakfast OR breakfast -> coffee. My 2 cents is breakfast -> coffee has worked better for me.
everything ive been reading lately has been saying that you should drink the coffee first, bc there is something in it that slows or stops calcium absorption.. meaning you arent getting vital nutrients. so they tell you to eat it later on in the day.
Also, ive been hearing (reading rather) that drinking coffee before you work out helps you burn more and work more efficiently.
Just wondering if anyone else has heard these too. I do both sometimes, but if i want my cereal or english muffin, than thats what ill have lol
I've always thought coffee filled me up because it made me feel bloated with all the the acidity in the coffee. I love coffee and it is a great way to revert your hunger. Not to mention, coffee has virtually no calories in it, which is terrific. But if you work out in the morning, you'll def. want to consume something else besides coffee. I find No-Xplode and different pre-workout/post work out supplements do the same thing, but they don't beat the taste of coffee!!!![]()
THe idea of coffee first thing in the morning has never sat right with me. Literally. I think its too acidy in my stomach if I haven't eaten yet. I love my breakfast first thing or really I can't function.
Coffee a couple hours later in the morning is more ideal for me. But I think I'll have to agree on the suppressant part - if I have my coffee mid-morning I'm more likely to make it to lunch without a midmorning snack.
Why am I the exact opposite? If I have a coffe I always get ravanous and crave sugar afterwoulds!
I too feel like I cannot eat when I have coffee. I often cant eat breakfast, sometimes even lunch when I have a coffee. I have since given it up! It made me feel anxious and bloated anyways, then I would be so hungry at supper, I would eat like a pig. I have many friends who drink lots of coffee in a day and have lost tons of weight....not for me though....
Coffee definitely suppresses my urge to eat, but I try to have at least a ½ cup of oatmeal before heading off to work. The Oatmeal plus 3 to 4 cups of Joe usually keeps me going for 5 to 6 hours before lunch time. It’s a different story on weekends, as I usually skip either lunch or breakfast and just have Brunch of some sort with not too much coffee. I find that I need it at work just to keep the day focuses and moving…
I used to have the same problem. Now I put Javanu protein creamer in my coffee in the morning(and sometimes afternoon). It has 10 grams of protein per serving and a bunch of other stuff and it is lo calorie, it even tastes good to a coffee snob like me.It certainly helps w/ my metabolism. www.javanu.com
Every morning I have a cup of hot coffee black with a bagle and I wont be hungry until around 12:30. Lately though, Ive been having iced coffee. I bring in my travel mug fill it at home with ice cubes and skim milk or 1 % then use the work Kerurig machine. i add One slenda too
You wouldnt beleive how much this tastes like Dunkin Donuts iced coffee and the best part is It fills me up so I wont snack. I think the reason why it fills me up is bec the stomach is filled with fluid. Thats why we feel bloated as somebody said.
I noticed as ive gotten older that if I have coffee(with 2% milk and splenda) first thing in the morning around 7am with breakfast I not only get jitters but my stomach gets irritated. So I wait til I get to work about 45 mins later. I have my coffee then and I'm ok.
Another thing Ive noticed is that when i was younger I would be able to drink coffee any time of day and go to sleepw ith no problem, now if I drink caffeine after 7pm I cant sleep and am up til about 1:30-2am! its horrid. So i stick with decaf at 7pm on.
Thats so funny. I am 31 and I can drink coffee anytime of the night and sleep fine. If I have to get up its bec I have to pee. If I drink tea on the other hand at night I will be up all night. TEA has a bigger effect on me caffeine wise than coffee does.
