Coffee-Calories
I just read a post, that said there are calories in coffe/black. Ok, that's news for me. Now I tried to find brewed coffee at home anywhere. I do not drink coffee outside the house. But I can't find any. Anyone know how much off everything is in regular Folgers?

According to my nutrition manager there is 9 calories in a cup of coffee. That is of course with nothing added.
Hope this helps.

thanks, I guess, then I didn't cheat to badly the last 7 weeks by not adding those in. lol
Just one more quetion please, how about carbs, or sodium? I learned about sodium, that it lurks in unsuspected places. And that is for a 8 oz. cup, right?

Hi Gabi,
it depends on what type of coffee you are brewing/drinking. Some coffees have no calories whatsoever, others have the 9 calories per 8 oz cup and that little bit of calories comes from a trace fat in certain coffee beans. It has no carbs or sodium, unless of course you like to salt your coffee ;) .... ok ewww. lol.
Some coffee beans do have a small amount of fat in them :). I don't count my coffee in my calories, only the stuff I put in it and so far it's worked out just fine :)

thanks, if there would be any calories in Folgers, they would have to put a food label on it, I think. And you can say ewwww now. My mom puts a pinch of salt in every 12 cup pot off coffee she makes for the last 30 years.
I guess I stick with counting only what I put in the "big mug" of coffee.

Folgers website says there's 0 calories per cup of fresh brewed ground coffee.
I haven't researched this - but my guess is that fat/calorie contribution would be the result of essential oils, so possibly this small calorie discrepancy would be evident with fresh-ground and espresso-based coffees vs. canned and filtered varieties?
Hey, has anybody tried eating coffee beans? I know this sounds weird, but i have. Now, im wondering how much calories coffee beans have. Does anybody know? does anybody want to find out for me? Thanks!!

i've never eaten them plain, but i have eaten chocolate coated ones, and if you search www.nutritiondata.com for "coffee beans" it gives you the data for those, both dark and light chocolate. not much help, unless somehow you can subtract the values for chocolate??? i don't know.
thanks guys. I guess now I can enjoy my cuppa in the morning, and I guess there are no calories in smelling the cup everytime someone else is dringing one.

a black cup of coffee 8oz is 5 cal. it depends on where you get it but even starbucks offers a 16 oz cup of coffee for 10cal. 1/2 & 1/2 is like 15 cal per mini container sweet & low is nothing but sugar adds up

Adding salt to coffee before brewing helps remove some of the bitterness- another good trick is egg shells. I remember growing up and my grandma made coffee the old fashioned way - boiling it on the stove similar to the "perculators". She would always add and egg shell from the breakfast that am to the grounds. I think its because I grew up drinking this kind of "strong" coffee that makes me love my coffee strong and black.
I've never counted coffee calories wether there are any or not- I figure as much as it makes you get up and use the restroom you probably end up burning more calories than it has LOL
