If you take it with cream and sugar won't help your diet.

I drink a pretty fair amount of black coffee, which doesn't seem to hurt my dieting. I don't think it makes me any more or less hungry, and for having very few calories it's one pleasure I don't have to give up.
I have read that two cups a day boost metabolism and helps burn fat by 31%. That was in my mom's mag, Women's World. I always find that it helps reduce my appetite for hours and when I do eat, I eat less. But it is obviously important to match what you drink with water.
Why do people automatically assume coffee is not good for you. Coffee is a very high source of antioxidants.

What's the difference in drinking some caffeine in coffee or green tea?

Just don't load it up with sugars and cream. Sorry but I just don't understand why coffee is always a target but tea is not. Some teas have even more caffeine then coffee.  Caffeine can be a diuretic so you might want to consider drinking more water...
what do you guys and gals count cals wise for a cup of black coffee?
-250
I believe 1 cup of black coffee has a grand total of 10 calories in it.

The caffeine WILL Dehydrate you, if you drink too much of it, but honestly, there are worse drinks. at least coffee doesn't come with artificial sweeteners in it.
I thought a cup of black coffee had 3 calories??
hkellick is bang on... which is why I said "-250"  Coffee is a stimulant so it reduces appetite and it's a diuretic (a xanthine) which, to get technical, inhibits reabsorption of sodium.

It appears to reduce the likelyhood of getting diabetes (good for overweight people), pancreatitis, and it's also really good for guys.... there's evidence that it reduces incidences of erectile dysfunction.  I'm drinking a cup right now... oh oh.

I think I read somewhere that the number 1 source of antioxidants for most americans was coffee. That's primarily because most americans don't eat enough veggies. :-)

Also for those of us who quit smoking, there is research suggesting that one cup coffee combined with 2 mg nicotine gum can offset the inevitable weight gain that comes with quitting. That's been my plan. (Except I drink more like 2-3 cups coffee).

this is really random, but when I started eating healthier I started having problems producing regular bowel movements, despite the fact that I was eating more than enough fiber and drinking the recommended amount of water... i was definitely hydrated, my urine was always clear except first thing in the morning... so i didn't know what the problem was.

Then about a week and a half ago, I added my daily cup of coffee back into my routine because I used to really enjoy it, and I had read here that one cup of coffee per day is not bad--maybe even has some benefits.

Well, ever since I added the coffee back in, I've been back to having regular, healthy bowel movements. I thought this was weird--kind of counterintuitive, but I've been noticing that days when I drink my coffee (excuse the frankness) I'm able to poop... and the opposite on days when I don't. Is this normal??
coffee is my friend.  It's hard on my skin because its drying so I have to increase my water...and I had to learn to drink it black but now that I have the taste for black coffee with just a bit of sweetner I won't live without it.

My favorite thing in the morning is my coffee ritual.  I grind beans fresh for each pot and I tend to drink a good coffee blend...it's kind of my way to treat myself that isn't high calorie and isn't food related.

mmmmmmmmm coffee

oh yeah and to the person who asked, coffee can help keep you regular.  In fact my mom is a nurse and she says they use strong coffee and a shot of prune juice in the hospital for patients who are very constipated lol sounds painful ;)
wow!! thanks all for such a great response. i guess i will be sticking with my cofee. i did not know that about the water, but now ill be sure to drink up! thanks!
Coffee is goooood... me likey
i tried to quit coffee. no good! it keeps me regular. poo was a higher priority. :)
