I have been having 1 cup of coffee per night for the last 5 days with a sugar substitute called equal. Coffee is really nice and it doesnt affect my sleeping i go to sleep fine.
But the next morning however i get really weird mood swings. For example i woke up and i started crying and couldnt stop i felt really depressed and felt like life wasnt worth living anymore and also i felt so tired. This feeling lasted for 2 hours than i was on a high i would not stop laughing and would be jumping and running around in class also doing and saying things to people i dont even know. It felt like i was not even there and teachers asked if i was drunk because i definetly felt like it. Then i would instantly snap depressed and tired again.
I didnt have any coffee last night and was fine today but i feel so unhappy without it. My physical education teacher said Coffee affects me so much because of my small bmi. I want to know if coffee will do me any damage if i keep on comsumming it too much because apparently it can kill you?
Any answers would be nice thanks.
I'd do a test... don't drink it for 5 days, record how you feel. If the mood swings go away, I'd stay away from coffee as it obviosuly doesn't agree with you.

What?! Until you point me in the direction of this killer coffee study, I'll keep drinking it.
I doubt 1 cup of coffee is going to contribute to major mood swings like you've described but you can try a few things as an experiment: cut out coffee altogether, switch to decaf, cut out the Equal or drink a smaller amount of coffee.
It's possible that she was told that it could kill her because she is at a very underweight. I'm not sure what caffeine does to someone who is underweight but I can imagine it being a concern.
Try switching to decaf. It's probably the caffeine making you so volatile in the morning even though it doesn't effect sleep (as mentioned above). Decaf doesn't taste much different and that way you won't feel like you are depriving yourself of your coffee.

Cellophane star, read her post again. she said that she has a cup of coffee PER NIGHT. I think that is where her problem is.
To the OP. why do you drink coffee at night? most people drink coffee in the mornings sometimes afternoons. stop drinking coffee at night and see what will happen? to be honest, some people just need to quit coffee cold turkey. I did that and I feel TONS better.
Coffee can't kill you. sometimes, it contributes to bad medical condition. e.g. people who suffer from ulcers should not drink coffee because it makes their symptoms worse.
Good luck.
It could be the sugar substitute rather than the caffene some people me included are highly allergic to such things due to the chemical process. Try doing without it or using sugar instead and counting it.
