Coffee? Please hep me understand this
So I love drinking coffee. I buy the starbucks beans and grind them myself. My question is how do I log this? Some coffee says it's 2 cals while others say 12. Coffee never has nutrition facts which is weird. How do you know what's in it? So how many cals do you think is in a cup of black starbucks coffee? I anyone knows this please let me know. Thank you.
I would go by what the nutritional stats on the bag. But for me personally I dont count my coffee, only what I add to it, my creamer and such. I hope that helped
Starbucks has nutrtional information on their website. If you wanted to be that particular over 10 calories I would say looking there should give you the answers. Even though you're making it at home you're only adding water to ground coffee beans so it shouldn't be all that different calorie wise from how they make it. But of course even from starbucks to starbucks there will be variations in how it is made which will alter the calorie accuracy.
Starbucks says: Grande Black (16oz = 2cups) = 5 calories

I always log my coffee as the first one that pops up on the list of foods that says "Coffee - Filtered". I think it is about the same calorie wise as the Starbucks website.
Black coffee I consider basically a freebie!!!
All nutritional information you get from anywhere is still just an estimate. Are you really worried about 10 calories?
Ok that's how I've been doing it n no not worried about 10 calories at all. haha. I just didnt want to keep loggin it like that and later find out it's 100 calories. Yeah I'm crazy like that.
Yeah, coffee is no more than 10 calories. I log cream/milk but not coffee; I trust myself to allow that kind of unlogged treat when I log everything else, and I think that it's alright for most people to do that. Few diets are affected by skipping logging coffee.
mmm coffee...i'm a coffee addict :)
^ I am also a coffee addict, i know a lot of diets/healthy eating plans tell you to give up coffee but that just aint going to happen! I drink straightforward instant or fresh brewed, and use fat free whitener- so I dont log it.
Is it a myth or does caffeine speed up your metabolism?

well, i don't know if it's just the time of day, but i know it keeps me regular in the a.m. *TMI, maybe? lol*
-->i think it does indeed kick up your digestion, anyway - gets everything flowing
^ lol... yes yes it does keep you regular! :) Coffee has the same effect on me. The caffiene wakes things up and gets them moving. I try to avoid coffee though. Maybe treat myself to it once a week so that I'm not dependent on it.
I think the effect of caffiene on metabolism is minimal - but it would increase it slightly. However don't think coffee is your cure-all to weight loss! You'll be sad when it doesn't work out for you!
