Coffee...should i switch to decaff
i am almost 11 weeks and am still drinking a cup/two of coffee in the am. I like my coffee strong and i drank coffee with my first. should i switch to decaff?? what do you think?
Two cups of coffee is not going to harm. Think of the caffeine withdrawls you'd go thru, I know because I've given up caffeine (well, mostly) because of heart palpitations. I have at least a coke a day or some other caffeinated beverage to keep my sanity and it takes the edge off the headaches I've been getting. If you're worried, limit your intake to just a single cup!
At around 12 weeks I started allowing myself a cup a day. I try to limit my total caffeine intake because usually the things with caffeine have little nutritional value.
I didn't drink any caffeine with #1.
I drank a good amount with #2.
#2 is much more of a bundle of energy than #1. Coincidence... yeah. Probably. LOL
I think a bit of caffeine is fine.
I recently read (I can't quote it though, because I don't remember, I think it was in a fitness mag) that while pregnant you can safely have 300mg of caffeine a day....which is about 2 regular cups of coffee. So unless you're drinking HUGE coffees from starbucks or something...you'll probably be just fine.

#1 - Drank mostly Milk - Craved it couldn't get enough - Slept through the night from day 1 home.
#2 - Drank MtDew first 3 month - then problems after that so drank none. Came early and a colic baby.
Coincidence?????
Hmmm, dms. Something to think about.
Neither of mine were great sleepers. #1 didn't sleep through the night until about 20 months. #2 started a little earlier at 16 months, but still comes into my room in the wee hours of the morning more often than not. Thank goodness we've never dealt with colic though.
When I say "bundle of energy" I mean #2 is a climber and is constantly into things. #1 is content to sit and read for hours. Even before she could read, she would sit and pretend to read and look at the pictures and make up her own words for hours. She's just mellow.
hmm- i hear you can safely have coffee...
My mom drank coffee with me and I didn't sleep through the night, but that was b/c of drinking it while breastfeeding and not what she drank during the pregnancy...
That was the one thing I wouldn't give up during either of my pregnancies. I think 300mg was what I read, too. I was a little more careful with it during the first trimester.
Both of my girls slept through the night early, too. I think it's actually AFTER you give birth that you have to stop caffeine (if you are breastfeeding) because babies don't process it as quickly so it can build up in their system.
Just use your head and you'll be fine--I think most things are ok in moderation. Congratulations on the new baby, btw!
Congrats!! I am nearly 11 weeks too...
I drank couple cups of coffee a day with my first two and they were fine and are completely different children...
For some reason this time I have been getting decaf lattes, cappucino, etc when out and haven't noticed any difference in the taste.......
You could try that and put your mind at rest completely??
