Coffee and weight loss

Quote  |  Reply
Does anyone have information regarding drinking coffee and weight loss?  I have heard that coffee will keep the liver from perform properly, or slow down its filtering process which in turn will not allow the body to burn calories effiently!!??  Anyway I am trying to loose weight and since I started dinking coffee I can't budge a pound.  Any suggestions??

How much coffee are we talking about?  I have an average of one cup a day during the week and don't think it affects my weight loss either way.  Be careful of what you put IN your coffee.  Obviously the best thing to drink is water, but a little coffee isn't going to make or break your diet.  I would say that any drinks aside from water should be had in moderation.
I havn't had any problems losing weight while drinking coffee.  Though I only drink between 6-8 oz a day, and sometimes I don't drink any.

There have been certain studies that say an excessive amount of Caffeine will halt weight loss, I forget why though.

There have also been a lot of studies that show a little Caffeine everyday will boost your metabolism.

It is my belief that you will gain and lose weight according to calories.  So if your coffee contains a high amount of calories due to creamer and sugar, then you may want to cut down.

You can drink your coffee and other things that you love provided they are within your daily calorie limit.
I use to drink my coffee with milk and about a half cup of sugar atleast! Then I switched to fattening french Vanilla cappuccinos. I have finally given those things up. Now I drink 1 of these in the morning...1/2 black coffee and 1/2 vanilla soy milk or chocolate soy milk. I dont even need to add sugar and it is tasty and has about 20 calories.
Weight loss guru's go nuts about this topic but really I think if you like your coffee and "need" it than have it in moderation, but drink ALLOT of water in the day (which you need anyway to continue flushing out toxic crap from your body that is stored in that fat) by allot I mean at least 8-10, more for each cup of coffee as it is dehydrating, and THAT would be the only logical reason why it isn't budging.

On shows like Oprah and others they have said to switch to teas like green and oolong which is good if you like tea, still need water too. The difference is the teas aren't so dehydrating, still caffeine and antioxidants that are good for you too. Personally I drink both, and just try to get lots of water in, sometimes I just have water, I try to make that my only habit.
I drink 1 cup a day w/ 1 teaspoon creamer and maybe 1/2 teaspoon sugar.  It seams that since I started drinking coffee I just can't get the weight to budge, and I used to loose weight easy before.  I watch what I eat and try to stay within 1300 cal. I am fairly active I workout every morning for about 1 hour and sometimes at lunch I workout at Curves (since I work next door to them).  I am 5' 1" and weigh 126.  I weighed 114 forever and can't seem to get back there. Maybe I should drop the coffee and see what happens...
I think coffee is like anything else... it's OK in moderation but if you overdo it is to your determent.
i think it also makes a difference what kind of coffee you drink.  like any food, the more natural the form it comes in, the better (ie: if it's instant and/or flavoured, it's probably not so good).

i might as well get a plug in for one of my favourite products, right?

Kicking Horse Coffee (roasted in my home town) is organic, fair trade, shade grown, and delicious.  if you can't get it in your local grocery or health food stores, you can order it (3lb minimum) at www.kickinghorsecoffee.com

you can thank me later :)
Hi, i drunk way to much coffee sometimes it was my only in take of fluid during the day disgusting i know. i suffer from hypogycemia a low blood sugar condition. i did find with research that caffine in any form can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar in turn making you reach for a sugar fix, i found cutting coffee and turning to a cup of tea instead and cutting out the fizzy drinks stopped me needing a sugar fix meaning i didnt binge as much to subsitute my word of advice try losing the coffee can only be good!
