Coke

Quote  |  Reply

Hello all im new and this is my first post. I am tired of being fat, the thing that really made me decide to do something is that after I went on a vacation with my partner  to the USVI and we got back and looked at the pictures I was amazed about how big I was. It made me ashamed that I let myself get this big!

Well my question is, I drink about 4 - 5 cans of regualr coke a day, if I cut this out of my diet will I see a dramatic weight loss or no. I try to cut it out by drinking tea, i need flavor not just water! But ill do good for a week and not notice a change so I go right back to it.

Thanks!

I never was addicted to coke but I used to be completely against diet soda.  Now, I love it. I don't drink much of it but if I do have soda, thats what I drink.  I actually can't imagine drinking a regular soda because of the ridiculous calories.  Not worth it.

Novachek,

You may see some change, but not a dramatic change in just a week.  What I've learned since I've been coming here is that the change is really in you and how you look at food.  Cutting out the sugar in a coke is only one step in the entire process.  You need to take a look at what you eat and make changes accordingly.  If you really look, you'll be surprised at how little you have to change your lifestyle.  Take me for example.  I cut out soda completely except for an occasional coke (which tastes like liquid sugar now).  I only drink water, coffee and sometime fruit juice.  On the week-end I allow myself a couple of light beers.  I switched from cream and sugar in my coffee to fat free half&half and Splenda.  That probably took care of about 100 calories a day right there.  I use the zero calorie spray instead of butter and I found a salad dressing with zero calories.  Those changes have also greatly impacted my daily caloric intake.

All you really have to do is keep track of what you eat and plan accordingly.  If you really want a hot fudge sundae tonight, you can have it, but you have to plan for it and reduce you daytime calorice intake.  You can fill yourself up with baby carrots at about 5 calories each and they taste delicious (yummy!) before you go to a party (I'm doing that tomorrow) and then just eat a little bit of the party food.  There are a ton of ways to reduce your calories and you'll be amazed at how easy it it.  Any little tricks you can come up with will help you on your journey and keep in mind that you will fall off the wagon now and then.  When that happens, just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and climb back on. Remember, it took time for us to get fat and it will take time for us to lose the extra weight.  Just give yourself a chance to go with it.  There are plenty of people here who will help you along the way.  If you need me, just holler!

My ex-boyfriend used to drink like 5-6 cans of Vault a day.  Then randomly he decided to stop drinking pop, and went from 220 lb to 200 in the course of one summer.  I think it's a good idea if you want to try it.  =)

Try it in Crack form I hear you take in less calories that way :0)

a 12 ounce can of Coke Classic is 146 calories, empty of nutritional value, times 4 = 584.  If you switch to drinking water, not only will you lose weight, even if you don't change anything else, you'll lose all that caffeine.  That means you'll sleep better.  When you sleep well, leptin is produced by your body (That's not a very good explantion, so look it up) and that helps you lose weight too.

You'll have caffeine withdrawal for a few days, but if you can stand the headaches and irritability, cold turkey is the way to go.

If you need extra motivation you can think about how all that sugar syrup messes with your metabolism.  It can put you at high risk for diabetes and/or insulin resistance - both of which make it even harder to lose weight.  In the meantime the sugar causes blood sugar swings which lead to carb cravings.  So if you ever crave carbs, or feel shaky or lightheaded when you're hungry the sugar soda could be the culprit.

Good luck with cutting back on soda!

This post takes me back a few months....when I first started CC, I would drink diet cokes, and sweet teas always, never drinking any water. I now drink water all day everyday, may have a cup of herbal tea here and there....but for me it is water, the soda leaves my stomach so bloated......so I have opted to give it up!!! When I do get a soda I can only drink half of it.....so I will drink lemonade if it is in season...but then I don't eat out much either.....

I don't believe in anything like artificial sweeteners, which is why I try avoid soda altogether. Try Crystal Light, or iced tea with just a little natural sugar if you need ''taste'' LOL.

Keep in mind that Crystal Light also has artificial sweeteners (just to clarify).

I realize that, but I don't make a habit of drinking it all the time...i just think its better than soda ;)

I also found something else that tastes yummy, it's Lipton Lemon Iced Tea on the go (just like the crystal light). It has ZERO sodium, since someone told me that its not good to have all your water with the crystal light because the sodium still causes you to retain water....Well this lipton thingy has no sodium, and I'm sure the lemon has to be of some good to your health right?Laughing

HA, I was thinking this, too, and was going to say, but I couldn't think of a way to say it that wouldn't sound snotty (as you so tactfully did), so I didn't.  I also noted that that person didn't say she herself drinks it, only recommended that someone else try it, and that she personally avoids artificial sweeteners.  I do, also, which is why I don't touch Crystal Light or any of the SF tea/drink "go" mixes.  But, for some people, they are like liquid gold, and they do not mind AS at all.  Anyway, good on you for finding a way to say something I couldn't, but also agreed that it needed to be clarified.  Smile

Trust me, I wouldn't have taken it as you being snotty, just correcting something that I stupidly said LOL...I actually drink the crystal light, just not all the time, but keeps me getting tired of drinking plain tasting water all day long... I still drink granulated sugar in my tea, can't get past that one! But I don't mind people correcting me, although some people would get annoyed at it. I often correct others too. I was thinking one thing and typing another I guess....

Unless you plan to work out 2 hours a day and really cut out food that is good for you, then yes. I use to be an avid Coke drinker, and there isn't anything good about it. Soda is said to be one of the number one reasons the US is so overweight, we consume incredible amounts of it and it is truely nothing but sugar plus a ton of artificial ingredients that are linked to numerous ailments. If you cut out Coke completely, you will probably loose 10lbs by years end just from that, so if you eat well and exercise daily think of what you could be capable of!

And if you crave the fizz and the sweetness treat yourself to a natural cane sugar soda every now and then or drink club soda with lime.
