cold cereal suggestions needed

Quote  |  Reply
this past yr I've only had Kashi Golean or Fiber One.  I'm out and going shopping, and hope to get in and out of the store quickly so I'm not tempted by bad foods.

I am so tired of the above 2 cereals.  Does anyone know what the 3rd best choice would be for fiber?  (so I don't have to stand in the cereal aisle 20 min reading labels.)

CC helped me learn to take time for breakfast and now I love it and am still keeping weight down.

thank you for any suggestions.

I buy Mesa Sunrise cereal from Nature's Path. It's really good!

cdnkarmagirl:  thanks, I'll check it out.  Hope the calories aren't too high.
I buy the store brand of 40% bran flakes.  90 calories for 3/4 cup, high fiber.
Honestly I like things simple. Kellogg's All Bran Flakes(they have extra fiber ones too if you live in the states) are so good. 1 cup is 110 calories and 5g fiber.

alysee
Bran Flakes.  ok, will get a box of this also.
Treat yourself to some good old-fashioned oatmeal.  Either 'whole rolled' or 'steel cut'.  It's delicious, really high fibre, lowers the cholesterol levels and you can add your own selection of flavourings such as dried/fresh fruit, cinammon, honey or pumpkin seeds to jazz it up and ring the changes.
I love frosted mini-wheats! They do have sugar though.
I enjoy a lot of the Nature Path cereals, and they are organic which is a plus. They sell some of them in the 900g bags which is better for the environment. A lot of them are whole grain, and super tasty. I currently have the Mesa Sunrise (3g fiber), but I find that the flakes start to get soft by the time I get to the end of the bowl. I really enjoy the Synergy 8 (5g fiber per 3/4 cup), Multigrain Oat Bran (5g) and the Heritage Ancient Grains (6g). These all stay crunchy to the last bite!
gi-jane:  I have a 4# bag of steel cut oats.  I really like that and for variety like cold cereal.

I didn't even see any Nature Path cereal at the store.  I got plain bran flakes.  Wow, some of those cereals are extremely high in calories!

But, many shelves are sparse, and at Walmart they were even out of sweet potatoes and baking potatoes.  The delivery trucks couldn't get thru out recent snow storm.
Almost every cereal from Nature's Path is good! Stay away from the granola ones though. They're tasty but the portion size is only 1/2 cup. If you're looking for a lower cal one, I'd suggest their multibran flax plus cereal. It has 110 cals for 3/4 cup. I add a few raisins in there too.

My favourite Nature's Path cereal is their pumpkin raisin flax plus cereal. I can't remember the calorie content now but I think it's under 200/cup.
I usually eat Golean as you do, but sometimes I get Honey Bunches of Oats.  It's not the best, but its better than a lot.  It's "fluffier" than Golean, so I can eat a large bowlful.  I went with Honey Bunches of Oats because it is fairly low in fat compared to other similar cereals.

Seriously people SKIP CEREAL! Sorry, but I love my breakfast, and cereal is SO BORING. Every morning I mix up these foods for a COMPLETE breakfast:

Egg whites - For fantastic omlettes with peppers, sweet onions, salsa, etc.

Vitamuffins - I own the chocolate, cranberry, and blueberry ones

Packs of sugar free oatmeal - LOVE IT

Cottage Cheese

Yogurt

Whole wheat Toast or 7 grain, both fantastic

Kashi or this other brand of waffles I can't think of off hand, there huge, 6grams of fiber and 160 calories for 2...can't beat it.

Foods like that make me look forward to EVERY morning.

Kashi Vive.

Post Raisin Bran. Yeh, it has added sugar, but it's pretty decent if you want to splurge once in a while.

Also Kashi GoLean CRUNCH. Or Kashi Promise Cereal, Autumn Wheat is nice for a change.

Oh, and weetabix biscuits are delicious "activated" with enough hot water to soften, then topped off with flavoured yogurt :P

You could buy another cereal (any one you want) and mix it with the fiber one to change the taste and texture... I do mix-and-match cereals all the time. It only takes 1/4 cup Fiber One to make a low-fiber cereal healthy. This morning I had 1/2 cup shredded wheat and 1/2 cup Fiber One honey clusters.

Post has a new cereal out that's fairly healthy. It has dried berries in it and it tastes okay.

kajikit......thats a great idea to mix cereals :)
I'd get so BORED if I had to have exactly the same thing for breakfast every day... we buy three different boxes of cereal each week, but at least one of them is a Fiber One variety.

I suggest the Nature's Path brand, too.  It's pretty good.

I keep 4 or 5 boxes on hand:  the plain Fiber One, another Fiber One variety, and a couple different Kashi or Nature's Path.  And I always keep plain old oatmeal on hand.  I rarely eat the same thing on more than two consecutive days.

You know you want the Cocoa Puffs.

YOU MUST TRY THE NEW CURVES CEREAL...IT IS VERY GOOD, 5.0 OF FIBER, IT DOESN'T GET SOGGY AND CC GIVES IT AN A...IT IS NOT IN THE FOOD BROWSER SO YOU'LL HAVE TO ADD IT....SO WORTH IT, SOMETIMES I JUST EAT IT FOR DESSERT!!!  TRY THE HONEY ONE!!! YUMMY
