Why do I have cold fingers and feet?
Asked by anonymous on Mar 02, 2008 in Health Conditions

I always have cold hands and fingers. People freak out when they touch them. I have had people tell me it is poor circulation or iron deficiency. My vitals, heart rate, blood pressure and LDH levels all tested very well. Do you have any insight?

Answer

There are several possible reasons for cold fingers and feet, include Raynaud's Syndrome, thyroid hormone deficiency, and a decrease in metabolic rate due to severe weight loss. With Raynaud's Syndrome, the vessels of the hands and feet constrict whenever the temperature varies. But for most women, cold hands and feet are perfectly normal because women have less blood flow near the surface of the skin compared to men. A doctor can tell if your cold fingers and feet indicate a medical problem by taking a full medical history and performing a physical exam.
