Hi everyone,
I hope this is the right place to post this question ;)
Ever since i lost weight, (i lost about 114 pounds in about 2 years time, and i am maintainig now with 2200cals a day), but ever since i lost all that weight i seem to be freezing my behind off everywhere where the temperature is not 22degrees Celcius, and because it is winter now (rightnow its like 0degrees here, and snowing) i am cold about 99percent of the time.
If i can remember this correctly this didnt happen to me when i was fat, i used to be able to sit inside and be warm but now i always feel cold. our heating system only heats the house to 21 degrees so that means i am even cold inside my own house!!
My question is: is this normal? do i just need to adjust to my new body with less fat or am i going to stay this sensitive to weather forever? (i went to the doctor to get my blood tested just to check and she said nothing was wrong with my blood)
Hope to hear from you guys soon!!!
My Norweigian friend would say that there's no such thing as cold, just the wrong clothing! If you lose a good percentage of your body-fat, it's normal to feel the cold more because you have a lot less insulation. If you've dropped below the normal weight-range (BMI <20) it's a cue to regain some weight. In reality, you just got used to being perpetually overheated when you were larger.
Use your 2200 cals wisely.... Plenty of hot drinks and hot food rather than cold drinks and salads. Eat/snack regularly so that your metabolism has something to work with.... chunky soups are good. Get some regular daily exercise... wrap up well and go for a walk outside, for example. Try not to sit still e.g. watching TV, for hours on end but move around as often as you can. Wear extra layers indoors. Our thermostat is set for 18-19C because the price of gas has gone through the roof. But we've invested in plenty of woolly tights and fleecy jumpers. Snug as....
I have only lost 15 pounds but have noticed this too. I'm FRE-E-E-E-E-ZING and I am still fat!! I was wondering if I was doing something wrong too. Or maybe I was doomed to be cold all the time.
Thanks for all the tips gi-jane!
If you're still in the process of losing weight you're probably on reduced calories? The drop in energy intake can make you feel cold.... which is why we tend to eat more in the winter and need less in the summer. You have to be really clever with your calories if you're trying to lose weight in the winter. Rather than cutting them low and freezing, you may find it's a better strategy to eat more and do more exercise... kill two birds with one stone.
Ive lost around 50 pounds and I definately feel a lot colder than I used to...Oh well - excuse to buy more clothes!
