Can anyone shed some light on a personal issue I have. People freak out at how cold my hands and fingers are when they touch them. I recently took a health assesment and even the nurse commented on how cold to the touch my hands were. They generally are always like this even when I am inside? I have had people tell me poor circulation or iron defeciency. My vitals heart rate, blood pressue and LDH levels all tested very well.
Appreciate anyone who might have insight.

it is a sign of a slow metabolism, could be linked to thyroid, diet, and genetics.

slow metabolism? aww great. :(
i always though i just had poor circulation
Just wanted to copy the mention of Raynaud's -- my mom has it and her extremities are like ICE!!! Check it out -- any circulatory misfire can be symptomatic of a larger issue. good luck!
Have you had your thyroid checked? Low thyroid (hypothyroidism) not only results in cold extremities but also dry skin, hair falling out, nails peeling, weight gain, constipation, lethargy, etc.

hmmm my hair falls out alot, weight gain-yes, dry skin-idk, constipation-IM VERY IRREGULAR. man this stinks... lethargy, could that mean always being tired regardless of how many hourse of sleep you get?
Me too!
I'm always cold at home, even when the room temperature is at like 25 degrees. My friends told me that I've got no fat to keep my body insulined. *thinks* I've got enough fat <,< But anyways, I wear these really fuzzy and cozy gloves at home. But it does make typing abit difficult.
Ehh... I didn't think it was anything significant- I'm always cold with very cold hands and feet. I have a fast metabolism, normal weight, no iron deficiency, and no other disease that I know of. I figure I'm just naturally cold. XP
there are a number of possibilities for the cold hands things. things people have listed are all definitely possible. for me, it's anaemia. due to a low iron count b/c of menstrual cycle sometimes, and sometimes b/c i haven't consumed enough vitamins and minerals. i see you posted this thread a while ago. i hope you have an answer by now. but the best thing to do, whenever you have a condition that causes you concern, is to see a doctor.
do some research on Raynauds Phenomenon - I was diagnosed with this years ago - I have had such cold and bluish fingertips that once I was in the dentist office having my teeth cleaned and I heard the assistant whisper to the dentist to look at my nails and then they asked me if I was feeling okay....it's when the capillaries are so small at the end of your extremities fingers and toes, etc. the blood has a hard time circulating through -
Definitely mention it to your doctor next time you pay him a visit....
When my thyroid levels are down, I am always cold. Have the dr. check your thyroid levels... you never know!
I always get cold hands and feet; I'm hypo(? er? - the one where your metabolism is slow) thyroid too. My friends just say its because you're losing weight: as you use up the energy from your fat stores you get colder, particularly around your hands and feet because they're extremist areas.
But I am totally with the thyroid. My mum never had cold hands or feet when she lost weight.
i'm going through the same thing many people are discussing. i recently lost about 50 lbs in the last 7 months or so - mostly by excessive running and not eating as much as i should have - and now im realizing that im underweight. ive come to realize this as im always feeling cold - especially my fingers which are like ice. even though i now eat enough i find that my hands only warm up when i OVEReat at meals, then my hands become excessively warm for a period of a few hrs until they get cold again. i have almost all the signs of an underactive thyroid and im starting to worry. I'm working to gain back a few more lbs to get to a more appropirate weight (ive never felt cold like this before i lost the weight) -- does anyone have a similar story? can i expect to maintain an appropirate body temp once i reach my correct weight or should i be concerned about possible long term thyroid problems? anyone with a similar story have anything to add?
Do you have any pain or tingling? Or weakness in your grip? It may be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. My hands and fingers were always ICE cold, so I went to the orthopedist, who sent me for nerve testing and found that I had SEVERE CTS. Once I had the surgery, my fingers and hands were warm again in NO time, and now, almost a year later, continue to be.
I am not a smoker or underweight...and my hands and fingers are like that too. I've been told by a few friends of mine that are studying to work in the medical field that it most likely is poor circulation. I do know that when i'm working my hands get warmer.
