Cold weather work outs?????? Any suggestions????
Now that the cold weather is quickly approaching, I find myself unmotivated to work out as my total work out was being done outside.
I am trying a few things in the house but I don't have a gym or work out equipment so it's tough trying to keep that motivation.
Please help! I've lost 7 pounds and I don't want to give up!

Agreed. Where I live, it's too cold to comfortably go for a walk or run outside, but there's no snow yet...
Try buying an aerobics dvd and some handweights- you don't need much space, and there are lots of fun workout tapes available today (Hiphop abs, yoga booty ballet, etc).
This post my receive more replies on the fitness board, by the way :)
joining a gym is the easiest option: do you not have one in your area? otherwise, you can try dance classes/yoga/pilates. but it's not SO bad out there (i live in montreal, i.e. canada, i.e. cold) and once you get going (either running/jogging/biking) it's fine.
I guess I'm the opposite of most; I get MORE motivated in winter, and tend to lose more weight. I think it's cuz I go out less and have more time....
anyway! Get a jump rope! Or you can fake having a jump rope. That's crazy cardio right there....otherwise you can always dance to music inside as well.
and if you are low on cash, but want to make a home gym, I think if you do a search on google you can find great alternatives to weights and benches and things, ex. filling up empty milk gallons w sand or dirt. Do you have a sledgehammer? There is a great workout out on the net about using a sledgehammer, and you don't need to be outside...that site has other home ideas, too.
But if you do have a little money to spend, go get an exercise ball, a set of dumbbells, and some resistance tubing. You can find LOADS of workouts on the net using just these things!
Don't give up!
ahahahahahah......yoga booty ballet?! oh man, you just made my evening...
If your looking for an in-home workout, I definitely recommend DDR (Dance Dance Revolution). If you have a PS2 or your son or daughter has one.. you can play the game in workout mode, and it's a pretty fun cardio workout where you can track how many calories you burn (which I always like).
Wrap up warmly, stick on some boots, take a rucksack and a flask and go for long walks in the countryside....... terrific exercise that really gets the blood flowing and removes the cobwebs. Much better than some stuffy gym!!
For my workout, I NEVER go to the gym. I have fairly good endurance, so all I do is get my iPod and do various rigorous calisthenics for half an hour = 200-225+ calories burned of heavy cardio. It really does make a difference in my regime, as I get completely soaked after half an hour. It's icky, but I am at home, so no one can see how you look. :) I do about 15 minutes without stopping (literally) of cardio, take a 5-10 minute break, and do another 15 minutes. I just finished one such session right now, and did 25 push-ups, 300 sit-ups, 300 step-ups on a platform... and so on and so forth. Just type in calisthenics on CalorieCount to get an idea on what you should do. I personally happen to have pretty good will power, so maybe if you need a little push to go to the gym this isn't the right way for you... but just a suggestion from a fellow CC who has lost 15 pounds and kept them off. :)
That sounds great! I love music and really don't have the funds or time to invest in going to a gym. With a full time job that is a 35 minute drive and a husband and 3 kids, I barely have time to spend with the kids when I get home before they are off to bed!
Thanks for your suggestions and support!
