ColdStone is evil...

Quote  |  Reply

or is it?

I just went to Cold Stone as a special treat this weekend-- my last weekend before I graduate! I was fretting what to order when I spotted a tub of "Light Cake Batter" ice cream-- my favorite flavor at Cold Stone! I KNEW it was a bit of an indulgence, but I haven't had ice cream since the summer, and I ended up eating the entire thing (I got the smallest size they had). So, as soon as I got back to my room and went onto Cold Stone's site and looked up the nutritional info on what I had just consumed. I was worried I had just eaten some 600 cals and 20g of fat.

Turns out, a small serving of the Light version has only 240 cals, 6g fat, 3.5g sat. fats...

The original has 420 cals, 19g fat, 12 sat fats.

The also had a "Sinless Sans Fat" vanilla ice cream, but it didn't look too good, and prob. wasn't worth the cals. anyways.

Just thought I'd share! Laughing

I didn't realize they made the cake batter in a light version! That is totally awesome. I haven't been to coldstone in probably a year or so because I am afriad of what will happen if I go in! At least I know there is something there that isn't totally frieghtening!

Was it as good as the original? Cake batter is my favorite as well (with coconut and graham cracker mixed in.... yuuummmm) and I saw the light version there last night but I didn't get it because I have ice cream so rarely and I was worried it would be disappointing.

I always get the sinless sans fat (its like the sweet cream more so than vanilla icecream...) then banana + cinnamon mix ins. soooo good!

I've been meaning to try the light cake batter though

The Light version was just as good as the original, in my opinion! I haven't had the original in almost a year, and it was thrilling to not have to feel so guilty! At home my mom only buys light ice cream and frozen yogurt, so I'm used to eating lighter ice cream-- the regular stuff gives me stomach aches. But I'm sure that if you gave me the light version and told me it was the original, I probably wouldn't have noticed-- it was still delicious-- especially with tiny marshmallows mixed in!

I've wanted to try that for so long!  I'm so glad to hear it was good, I'll definitely get it next time I'm near a coldstones

i always get the sinless sans fat sweet cream!! i have always been a chocolate lover..but i still really like this flavor..and its only 140 cal for a "like it" size!

I used to work there and chose to indulge in the lowfat and fat-free sorbets instead of ice cream. And don't touch that sinless junk unless you want to gag. It is AWFUL. The servers will cry if you ask them to mix something into it because it's like trying to scoop a bowl of ice out of a brick of ice. Get me a chisel because that sinless junk sucks.

Edit: Sinless sweet cream is the devil.

The last time i went there I got the Sinless Sans fat Vanilla (was good by the way) and the guy behind the counter laughed at me in a rude way when he was making it. He was very overweight so I guess it pissed him off that I was getting that one. Haven't gone back since.

themonbon,

I've got to agree.  I guess I just think at a place like Cold Stone, if you're gonna do it, do it right.  Just don't do it as often.

I went there for the first time in a long time this past weekend and really enjoyed my full-fat vanilla bean ice cream with heath bar mixed-in.  And guess what?  I didn't gain wait or cry all over myself!

i don't know if theres something wrong with me, but i just can't take the taste of cold stone... i had it once and it was WAYYYYYYY too rich for my taste...

If i'm going to splurge on calories, i'd much rather have a sundae from carvel or something!

I LOVE COLDSTONE. i really dooo. its my favorite place And the light cake batter is deliciousss :) I was so happy when they brought the light version to laguna because i was never willing to give up cake batter ice creaaam. i even tried making a light version at home but going to coldstone is much easier :) and delicious-er

I love Coldstone too!!!  There are two newer ones in my area and I definitely will be visiting a few times this summer!  Really good ice cream is such a great treat in the summer.

It broke my heart when they changed the Cake Batter recipe in 2005. Not that the new one isn't good, but it isn't AS good, so I can't touch the stuff anymore. I can't imagine trying to sample the low-fat version.

I guess it's harder for me because I notice very subtle taste differences, especially in diet sodas- man those taste awful. Choco is right- if I'm gonna splurge on some sort of crap to put in my body, then I'm really gonna splurge and enjoy it right. Top that off with some hot fudge, please!

yes, coldstone is really evil (the cool thing is they opened one down the street from my house last summer great huh lol)

I haven't had any since the summer myself and have been seriously thinking of coldstone creamery lol...I want some strawberry ice cream with graham cracker crumbs and almonds....of course i do love the cake batter ice cream with graham cracker crumbs, almonds, and can't forget that o so healthy heath bar! YUM lol...

Since they do samples before getting your choice, I will try the light cake batter ice cream to see how good it is...thanks for the ups!! that way instead of eating a 650 calorie desert, I can semi indulge and still get my toppings for under 500 Amen to that!
