college.... credits...

I'm starting down an accelerated path toward nursing school. I'll have all the classes necessary for consideration (competitive program, ~50% don't make it in) for the may 31 2010 deadline (clinicals would start jan. 2010) after the fall and spring semesters. I'm also eligible for the phlebotomy program - i'd need one class (business software, can be done online), then the two phlebotomy courses, one of which is in the summer of 2010, 40 hrs per week for three weeks.

to do both, i'd have to take 13 credits (one science lab class, sociology, abnormal psych, and the business software class - the last three are all virtual campus) this fall... then 9 credits (science lab class, phlebotomy lab class, and "gym") in the spring. the deal? i have two small children... with a 50% chance that one of them will be in preschool from 9am-3pm, 5 days per week.

so.... do you think it can be done? or is it biting off more than i can chew?

I want both of these so badly... (I apologize for my grammar/typing/punctuation, i'm typing quickly and holding a baby's hand)

try it. if it is too much, just drop before the refund deadline. i worked and went to school and rasied children. i have no freakin idea how i did it, i just got up everyday and did what needed to be done at that moment. just try not to think about everything all at once, as it can be rather debilitating. go for it! how will you know if you dont try?

Yes, you can do it.  I got a BA with two preschool kids.  You are going to have to be able to do it if you want to study nursing.  You are going to have to put in a bunch of time for those classes too.

Like watergirl said...just get up everyday and do what needs to be done....and plan your course work accordingly. I managed to finish my MBA, write a thesis, raise a newborn, maintain a marriage, work full time and walk the dog. No time for exercise, hence the reason I am perusing this message board. BTW take summer classes is available.

thanks, guys! I think that I can do it, too. It's a matter of planning and knowing when to ask for help. If I tell myself "oh I can't do it" then I'll never even get to try. I CAN do it. Thank you!
