kathy's referee comment in another thread reminded me that ...

Sports Illustrated has picked Georgia to beat Auburn to win the SEC this year and for Clemon to beat Virginia Tech in the ACC.

I read these things, but I can't remember what they predicted last year (sad) and so I have no idea how accurate their predictions are.

They've got Ohio State winning the Big 10

can't remember their picks for the other conferences (that I don't care about Tongue out)

I just saw the 10 best players in the Big 10 list from SI. There are 5 Buckeyes on it and no Wolverines. The big game is a home game for us again. Us Buckeyes are a little strange, we love to win the Big 10. We love a national championship, but we can lose every game in the season and beat Michigan and it's still a good year.

I do think OSU will win the Big 10. I think Illinois is going to be up there again for the battle.

Edit:  Corrected number of Buckeye players on SI list. Yeah there's 5 not 4!

Meh SI is usually off by two years.

I'm picking the Gators to win the SEC.

GO GATORS!!!!!!!

 surprise surprise!!  ::giggles::

mooni, UNC sucks at football, but somehow we muster the wherewithall to play our best game against NC State - our football rival - and often win, even though they are almost always the better team

Duke - everybody can beat Duke at football.. it's a yawner!

My pick: UF > OSU for BCS Championship

UNC is going to have a strong team this year.  I predict 7-5 at the end of the regular season, #2 in their half of the ACC behind Va Tech and a small bowl game.  Butch Davis is doing really well to turn the team around.  They have a weak schedule this year AND although they went 4-8 last year, 5 losses were by 7 points or less.  With almost all of their starters returning, I think the closer games will start going their way.  I wouldn't be surprised if they went 8-4 or even 9-3 with a bit of luck.

They being the polls (SI and ESPN) have Georgia winning the SEC, but they also lost like 5 or 6 players how can they still be #1? Also USC is up there, for the PAC 10. Bucks again winning Big Ten me being from OH-IO of course I am rooting for the Buckeyes again...I think FL will take the SEC with LSU close 2nd.

LSU will lose to Appalachian St. in the season opener.

LSU will lose to Appalachian St. in the season opener.

Would love to see that...

Thats exactly what Wolverine fans said last year... we all know what happened next.

App St is going D-IA in the next couple years too, btw.  After winning 4 straight D-IAA championships, it's about time they move up to the big leagues.

My son goes to OSU. You should have seen all of the I love App State T-shirts on campus last year.

I don't think OSU will go to the BCS Championship game unless they are undefeated and there is no other undefeated team or only 1 other undefeated team. If OSU has 1 loss and and there is any other 1 loss teams, I believe OSU won't go. Recent bowl history is reason enough why.

Oh I went to a couple of games last year I know Laughing. I really have high hopes for OSU this year with the amount of Seniors coming back. Looking forward to the season a little scared about going to USC, but I like our chances. Always hard going to the West Coast.

If OSU loses early to USC and that is their only loss and other teams have one loss later in the season I see OSU going to the BCS. We have a large following, both for and against OSU. We draw large crowds no matter where we end up on bowl games. Our fans travel well and that is an other reason we get into bowl games. We bring $$$ because we do travel and have a large fan base.

That is true, you can count on the Buckeyes to show up to a bowl game and spend lots of cash. Wasn't that a criticism of last year. I believe I heard a lot of grumbling about having a home town going to a bowl game because vendors lost money on the deal.

Yee Haw! One for the Gators in the BCS Championship! I am of the old Steve Spurrier school, however. Win the SEC first and foremost. :D

hey hey hey!   Not EVERYBODY can beat Duke.... Northwestern didn't!  In any case... we have a new coach.... and we might even win a game or 2 this year! I'm super excited!

As long as Bobby Bowden beats Paterno for most wins this year, then they can both retire and I will be a happy Seminole and both FSU and Penn State can move on and get some fresh coaching blood in action!

yes, this is true - they are turning their program around from where it was previously (i used to say they were in the 3 stooges conference the way they tripped each other up running upfield with no opposing players anywhere near them)

but until they can play a respectable game against a Tennessee or a Florida or any of the true top tier teams, you just have to suck it up and admit that football isn't their thing (since the 1950s I think)

we'll get our turn come basketball season

i thought FL had a bunch of injuries - is that wrong - is it Georgia with all the injuries?

Such a shame that Michigan lost to the Utah in their opener. I'm so sad. /sarcasm

Go Gators! :)

East Carolina upset Virginia Tech

I pull for Tech sometimes, but I still like a good upset.

No such luck for the Mountaineers...
